  1. Certainly up and down yesterday , some vendors had too high a reserve on , others took unders after being passed in. Photo is lot 258 ,Bettor's Delight x Platinum colt went for $200K

    2YO Bonus

Who is losing here ? This encourages other trainers to enter their 2yo maiden against a winner. The money is bulk funded outside the the race stake. I agree that if only 5 horses did turn up and race the turnover may suffer but again can only see that happening up North. Only 126 lots were entered at this year's yearling sale at Karaka, with withdrawals , passed in lots , overseas buyers and southern purchases, there won't be many 2yo's up North next season either. But at least it is a starting point where former breeders are encouraged to get back into the game. Hope all go well for Chch's Sale with 260 + lots up for sale.

    2YO Bonus

Think it's a good move, you are talking about 3yo maidens v 2yo maidens essentially, you won't get small 5 horse fields unless in the north .
  5. I know secondhand that Yole trains them hard, heaps of work preparing them. Whether that flattens them for race day don't know, or whether they have a lighter run the day before. Can't blame anyone if his horses makes up most of the field Remember when the Purdons had the majority of Open Class horses , only Brady and Hillier horses as opposition.
  6. I've said it umpen times on social media, the uhf channel 200 sells time slots and racing should take advantage of this every weekend at least ( they have used it in the past for Cup Day) you could have 4pm 10pm Friday nights encompassing the shift of putting Auckland and Addington on the same night, 11am to 6pm for Saturdays, and similar for Sunday. As I do not have skytv satellite ,not sure what Channel 200 (Juice ) is on and whether it was also used for Cup Day.
  7. I would not be so sure about that. Spark/ Chorus are pulling the copper connections, you will need Fibre access for the internet, many harness fans are rural. Otherwise you will need Cellular Wi-fi ( unlimited ) which will cost your discretionary spending. I believe most landlines will go too. As for myself don't have internet , other than my cellphone wi-fi, and if I spent 5 to six hours watching, I would have nothing left very quickly. I generally have to watch on my phone connected to free internet providers like local councils or work. Those are not convenient when at home.
  8. Trackside needs to grab the channel 200 package free to air for the Friday's if putting both meetings on at night. That means you will not have to have sky TV, watch it on internet, or go to a pub to view. Another alternative is get those race nights on the radio ((SENZ) As for the Monday / Tuesday meetings , might be enough horses in Canterbury but don't see low stakes races working, , have age group races ( not listed or ckassics ) , fillies and mares etc Maiden 2yo colts/geldings and fillies split Maiden 3yo colts/ geldings and fillies split 4yo + fillies and Mares 1 win Based on their proposal of 5 to 6 races Could have each section race alternately that month so as to include a trot only day.
  9. Exported to Aussie, won 25 race all up I gather, sire of 20 foals. Now deceased.
  10. Yip , same as the old service, regarding WA . I remember wanting to back an ex - kiwi in the 7th race of the meeting but TAB only had betting on the first 6 races. I even posted on Cafe here about it. The horse won to add to the agony.
  11. Helps with horses that get better with age, that family just does that . 1/2 sister Eclipse Me goes well in USA, another , from close relative is Beyond Words which beat Amazing Dream in Mares Group 1 and doing the business in America, No Apachemee running up against Field Marshall , Cash N Flow, and the like, returning a 1:50 unplaced run at Menangle at around 10yo. Also King Of The Claimers title at Melton. So you would think American Me and Sarah may certainly get another chance at victory in Open Class, cause as pointed out that was a great drive and effort.

Have the stats taken out the sponsors contributions ? There are 3 major entities ( and maybe contractors ) involved in the running of the meetings, clearly only HRNZ are disadvantaged. The club gets the stakes and get a return from food and beverage sales in some capacity. Entain get the punters take, and re-distribute earnings to which HRNZ recieve a portion of that . The government gets the gaming tax. Maybe as an industry we lobby for a smaller gaming tax.

Yes , missed reading that post, However you still missed my point. Businesses have up and downs, and unfortunately the marketing of these meetings are failing to attract punters ,probably along with the case of little live radio coverage. As pointed out in an earlier thread, not everyone has internet or has time to rush back inside to watch ( if you do have sky).

Well , if that is the case why has the thread author thrown them in too. If there is a trend , it should be included in the picture. The thread author needs to back up bd trends. I have only commented on what is presented and what relativity it has . If there is a bad trend , then HRNZ should know about it, and report it to stake- holders.

No, I am not saying that, it is the overall picture , that we look at. The thread author has pounced on a weak meeting result, where most meetings make money.

Companies/businesses pay provisional tax, gst and industry tax , this case is gaming tax. Entain does not have to run rugby or other sports, but are bound by the agreement to fund racing. The do pay to sports from the sport betting which they profit from much greater than racing. Fuel companies pay gst and the roading tax from their takefrom selling petrol, leaving a profit or loss. At year ending Financials, if they have paid too much provisional tax they will get a refund, doesn't happen all too often though. Many businesses did find this situation during covid however.

Remember gaming tax is taken out also. However a loss is tax deductible at end of financial year. So it is the overall picture that counts.
  18. Merlin won well, Now let's put on a 4yo only race for the pacers and trotters on the next Grand Prix day . Also to revert the Messenger back to 4yo only again , surely there's enough depth in the ranks.
  19. The Kidz Kartz 2 reps will head over there on Thursday, they got a tour around stables and Redcliffe ( Friday) where they will be presented with their NZ colors and compete at Albion Park Saturday night between races. Also the Junior Drivers have their competition. So we should be excited to see our future compete.
  20. Weather has closed in, steady rain since about 7am, persisting for a while yet. Meant to clear later this afternoon.
  21. Only Auckland has the population that may require that, and it's not a good idea either. As for Riccarton and Awapunui , you have just had the new Synthetic tracks in, becomes watseful.
