Bryce, a huge thanks from all of us, we have had a hell of a lot of fun and have been close to getting "the chocs" a couple of times.
Trust you remain a member of the club, as I am sure our big result day will happen and you must be a part of that.
In Jason we have a great organiser who will give hours of his time, like you have done, for our benefit and enjoyment
    Thanks a million Bryce

    Yes it is. Absolutely.
No free passes. There is no upside to an Aussie invitation. None. If they all run a place, that deprives the NZ industry of perhaps 30-50 per cent of the stakes. So yes it is a big, big deal.
The clowns in the grey suits had better come up with some new ideas instead of fiddling with the ones that actually work.
I have no problem with them coming over and earning their way like everyone else does.
As I said, they ain't barred, just play on a level playing field with rest of us.

    PLEASE READ
It has been brought to my attention that on Saturday a player who was one of the last to post had already had selections posted for him by a team mate. The "covering"post was subsequently edited to remove the substitute selections after the late-posting player appeared and posted. This is contrary to the comp rules and confusing for opponents who might have noted down the first (substitute) set of selections, which actually happened. It had escaped my attention due to the edit. I'm am very busy on a Saturday morning and don't have time to check every edited post. In future I will have to do so.

I should make it clear that the first set of selections posted for a player whether they be their own or a substitute set will be the selections I take as official and no subsequent selections will be accepted. This is in fairness to their opponent. If you're going to post for an absent team mate who you are not sure will show, I suggest you wait until 1 minute or so before the jump of the first comp race in fairness to them or even after race 1 is run.

This message has been posted as a heads-up and not as a telling-off. Please accept it as such. For the past few years this comp has been notable for the good spirit it has been played in and long may it continue which is a credit to all of you.

    Absolute ridiculous decision. Unbelieveable.
The one day local owners at all levels can race for good stakes and now we have invited competition stars.
Another cross for the already struglling owners to carry - why bother with the local industry when you get support like this
    Diablolical decision

Settle down guys, Bensley made a simple error. We have all done that. He would know more about what was going on in racing around this part of the world than most of you could write on the back of a postage stamp using a builders pencil.

Well done Dave, nice to identify one and get the chocs.
I suspect FT may be looking for a little more ground maybe), but great effort on that track today
will review and study her action  and time tomorrow (her last 400 must have been stunning) but I am sure Team Parsons and CWJ will be over the moon.
She will have another great season

You are not forced to read the thread if you're bored turny, and the personal attacks are pretty minor really.

Most boring thread on this site for years? That's the biggest over exaggeration I've read on this site for years!!

The thread has got contributions, plenty of them, and opposing viewpoints. That's what a Discussion Board is supposed to contain, isn't it? And it's something this Board has been sadly bereft of in recent times.

As for promoting the "cheats on seats" industry, this is a Harness Discussion Board. If you're not interested in the sport, piss off somewhere else.

Never mind what you predict in the future about his horses, they were still two top drives in the present.
The drive on Speedy Success was a super one, setting a pace that had the others struggling and then outstaying them when they attacked in the straight - causing the chasers to break under pressure.
And the drive on Friday was also great, getting a sit and moving up at the right time and again, outstaying them.
He's really improved as a driver.

IMHO this horse is NZ's next true Superstar, of the Bonecrusher, Sunline  ilk.
Cauthen will gather many Group One successes over the next 24 months.
Cared for by a very very astute trainer who will place him well.
This horse is a very serious real deal animal.
    Lets champion their success

Let's stick with your example of 200 shares being sold, and the seemingly reasonable cost estimates from the original post.

The total outlay over the life of the syndicate will be around $230k. Take away the $100k from the sale of 200 shares, and you're left with a shortfall of $130k. In return for covering this shortfall, the promoters will retain 80% of all stakemoney, and 80% of the sale price of the horses when the syndicate is wound up.

The potential loss of $140k that you speak of, is purely a figment of your "creative" accounting, and couldn't happen even if both horses retired penniless, and worthless!

The horses would only need to be moderately successful, and retain a portion of their original value, for the promoters to get the "free ride" that apparently isn't available.

There is of course the possibility that more than 200 shares will sell, in which case the "free ride" will kick in much earlier!

    Hogwash #2
Your insistence that the trotter was by Muscles Yankee had some bearing on it's value at the time of the sale, by which time it's ability had to speak for itself, is ludicrous in the extreme.

And to then suggest that the costs incurred in breeding a horse, have some bearing on it's value several years later, is optimistic as it is naive. Breeding is an important factor in the sale ring, but once a horse steps out on the racetrack, his mummy and his daddy can't help him any more!

The world is full of well bred horses that have graced the inside of pet food cans. I'll take the mongrel bred trotter that can run 1.58 over a Muscles Yankee that can trot 2.02 any day of the week!

    Hogwash #3
To somehow conclude that the need for a serious surgical procedure doesn't affect the current value of a horse, and that the downgrade in value is somehow a slight on the veterinary professional, is mind boggling.

Any competent vet will stress the element of risk involved in even the most basic of surgical procedures, and common sense would suggest that the higher up the scale of risk you go, the more the value of the horse drops.

You attempt to denigrate the opinions of Racecafe users, (unsuccessfully I might add) yet choose to participate yourself. Internet forums such as this simple spread the word about dodgy practices a lot faster than in the past. Hence this very debate, which I should thank you for keeping at the top of the page..

You'll notice that though out this post, I haven't felt the need to resort to the use of big words to increase my self importance, nor made any insulting remarks about your level of education, mental capacity, living arrangements, honesty, integriry, or personal hygiene.
