Move Faster a now 2 win horse in age group listed company is now a rating 82. His win as a 2yo in the Ryder stakes took him from a rating 53 to a 70 - skipping the whole 65 grade altogether. He then runs 2nd in a special conditions maiden race and gets another 4 rating points. A win in the Listed Wanganui Guineas and he gets another 8 rating points now rating 82 and is now a 2 win horse winning age group races and is 3 rating points off being open handicap.

So how is No Excuse Maggie been exempted from naming a rider hoping that Guiseppina scratches. I have only seen it before when no other riders available and they are specifically waiting for James McDonald? Its not like he is the regular rider of the horse - 3 rides for a 6th, 7th, 8th. I agree bizaree situation for Open 1600 Saturday. But - how do we fix it - with Mac O'Reilly rated 103 in the noms he was carded 58kg. Intransigent 55kg (rating 95) and No Excuse Maggie rated 1 point above Intransigent gets 53.5 after mare allowance. So the 2nd highest rated horse (96) No Excuse Maggie was then half a kg above the minimum. Apparently something has to carry 58 - Mac O'Reilly comes out so Intransigent as the highest rated male horse goes to 58 - up 3kg - and the rest of the field adjusted accordingly - giving the 2kg spread. Should the field have been rehandicapped with MacOReilly out? I not sure about rules on that - but race now looks like a set weights and penalties race with apprentice allowances. My question is who has ended up the best off in the situation?

harder when you own a gelding in the mid 90 points dont win but manage to run honest and weighy in .You are penalised for being consistant so dont lose any points and are always carrying enough weight to make it tough against the 2kg claiming mares.
