Absolute disgrace alright. Should have been an AUTOMATIC late scratching. How many punters would have opted for their money back if they'd known that he was going to start from there? I'd say 99% would have!

It's not Purdons call to throw away the punters money, and it's not the starters call to throw away the punters money either.

Both of these people should have been fined heavily for not allowing a horse to race under the conditions of the race. If he'd gone backwards after they'd said GO, that would have simply been bad luck, but to be re-handicapped a further 15 metres on the whim of Purdon and the starter is one of the worst examples of "punter neglect" I've ever seen.

And they wonder why the game is going to the dogs!!!!!!!!!!!

Should have been declared a late scratching, and both Purdon and the starter should have had the book thrown at them.

And didn't have a bet in the race!!!!!!!!!!!

I just merged the Sacred Falls thread. It seems to have worked well.

I'll do it in the future if it's feasible...as bblunt says it's not always straightforward.

Has anybody bothered to talk with Jim Leach on this program? Those who made any effort and (that was not many of you) to attend the NZGRA AGM would have heard Jim Leach speak on this matter. What you saw was only a small piece of what was actually shot. Jim was grilled in front of the camera for over four hours. Who is to say he did not mention GAP???

Jim was asked a question where a trainer asked to have the dog euthanised on the day due to an injury. When Jim commented on this the producer was in the ear of the interviewer advising that the Trainer had told 60 minutes that they were forced to have the dog put down. How could Jim defend this when put on the spot. I have spoken to a Stipendiary Steward who was present on the day. The Trainer was offered the chance of having the dog given sufficient pain relief to be able to travel home comfortably and be presented at the Trainers own vet. After all the injury looks worse at the time, than it may be the next day. The Trainer refused as the dog was not fit for breeding and as such having it dealt with at the track saved the expense of having it put down by there own vet. You can not blame Jim for that.

J T McInerney was interviewed for the program and nothing shown. Why was that? Did they not like what he said? Did his views not meet the criteria for how they wanted to portray the industry.

I have had occasion where I have been interviewed by the Media on rugby matters. I have provided comment and have been surprised to see the outcome. Looked like they interviewed a different person on a different subject. Unfortunately you have no say on how they edit the information given.

Yep I certainly enjoyed seeing Dunaden storm home - great run, and even with a penalty he is very hard to beat in the MC. I've been lucky enough to back him in the MC and CC wins at $26 both times

Having said that I thought Americain was crucified in the MC last year by the jock, and probably should have won. Looking at yesterday's run he looks as good as ever and just blew out last 50m, which he was more than entitled to do. I got the feeling they weren't that worried about yesterday, and he will improve heaps.

So I will put him ahead of Red Cadeaux - but I take your point and you have to cover it.

Right now I would rank them Americain/Dunaden/Gatewood/Brigantin/Red Cadeaux.

    Good picking.

I think with Americain we saw the winner of the MC - enormous run.

and speaking of the Cup, I can't take any multi doubles on the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup, it appears they have dropped a few races from the selection list.

Assume I can, if I race up the TAB ?

    My picks for the Cup,

    LIGHTS OF HEAVEN
    DUNADEN
    AMERICAIN

    with AMERICAIN being unlucky ...

Can't wait for this race! Going to be an absolute ripper. Well done to the TAB for opening up certain h2h, 3 horse special options on the race. Personally i think Dunaden looks a great bet @ 2.25 vs G.G.

I haven't really been following anything really closely. But i think i might be leaning towards Southern Speed, sure her run in the Turnball wasn't that good, but her form before that was tops, and apparently she worked pretty well earlier in the week.So i think i'll opt for her.

    Race 5 #2 Free Wheeling

This horse has some serious talent and Peter Snowden has an excellent record of getting horses to win at their first go in Melbourne.

    Good luck.

Well the barrier draw has evened things up a bit, and made it even more fascinating.

Dunaden was my clear top pick pre draw, and he and Gatewood are the major two I've backed so far

Still go the Dunaden way, with December Draw, Jakkelberry and Winchester in the mix as well.

Glencadam Gold has been a lay since he won the Metrop at the fav odds. Said a while back I would have wanted $10. Would want a little more now after drawing 22 - he is still only paying $4.60 in Australian markets I saw !!

Shaping up to be a brilliant race to watch.

Shocked to hear today that Martin Crowe has been diagnosed with cancer lymphoma.I know when i was a youngster he was my cricketing hero....he was a genius with the bat,and he is still the best that i've seen in my 36 years to wear the Silver Fern.My thoughts go out too Hogan and his family, and i hope that he can overcome this monstrous hurdle.

Her Melbourne Spring Carnival record is not that flash lloyd no matter which way you look at it. She basically said so herself a few years back when questioned about it.

Glencadam Gold is Caulfield Cup fav at 3.5 after winning Metrop where its stablemate Reuben Percival was 3rd. It subsequently got lapped by the Pommy horse last Saturday in the Herbert Power. Makes me think value lies elsewhere in the CC

Throw in the hotpots getting rolled on Saturday, and the omens are not good for GG. I backed it last start as it was a good thing. I would want $10 + on Saturday for the reasons you outline, and also the addition of a couple of genuine international topliners in the field.

. This is the latest from the Age

    "
But plenty of punters are writing off Pierro after the colt tasted defeat for the first time following a torrid run in the Guineas. Pierro's owner, Greg Kolivos, said yesterday there was never any doubt that the colt would continue on the Cox Plate path.
''I went and saw him on Sunday morning … and he had done everything right after a hard run,'' he said."
