This dog to me would have gone on to great things. I don't know if he will have it in him now, great great shame. The race on Monday was a completely different dog to the one which won the Auckland Cup 2011.

GONSTA reacted to chelseacol in How To Turn People Off Harness Racing.
Spot on - "it is not a good look", and as the original poster said in his first line - this is a great way to turn people off the game, at a time when we need as many friends as we can !
Now I am not commenting on what actually happened here in terms of how culpable or not DD was for the drive. To be blunt I didnt see the race and have no view.
What I am commenting on is the lack of questioning of what goes on by the Stipes, and also the smugness that sometimes emanates from some in the game when someone has a different view or is aggrieved by what happens in a race.
If people are prepared to invest their hard earned - then they can express their opinion without being told they were mugs etc.
Are the Stipes really so busy that they can't ask some questions when a $1.30 fav gets beaten???

Fraud: Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.
Oliver (the little battler, funniest assessment ever ) has taken the shine off one of the very few good news stories racing gets these days - the Melbourne Cup.
How does racing improve its profile? By breaking back into the mainstream where it used to be. The best medium for that is tv news. What makes the news? Melbourne Cup, NZ Cups, the odd superstar like Black Caviar or Swift Fantasy and feelgood stories like Olly saluting big brother. Other than that it's big news stories like animal welfare (dogs lately) or crooks. Olly's a crook. zzz you're in lala land.

What about ole 'Johnny Bright' last night at Alexandra Park. Was doing some interviews with trainers and was speaking to the Reid man who had some nice runners in, but Mr Bright thought he would give Reid man the night off because he's been so busy with cup week, even tho he was 'willing'. How about we give you the next year off J.Bright!

GONSTA reacted to chiknsmack in NZ cup and Galaxy sprint selections
Does anyone think Jinjarango can give Emily Baxter and Another Dollar a start and a beating? I'm on Emily Baxter, Another Dollar and White Air already, and I'm not too worried about the rest except for Peking Tom (though I don't think he'll see the rail, so he'll be doing it tough) and Jinjarango.
If Jinjarango jumps he'll probably get stuck outside Russell Hart, who WILL jump and can use a bit of the track. So he'll be dealing with bumping and being 4-wide to the post. If Jinjarango misses away slightly though he could be on the rail and on the heels of the leaders into the first turn. Camped on Emily Baxter and Another Dollar, with the option to go inside if a gap appears or outside where Russell Hart and White Air will probably leave a gap for him, is he a threat?
The Galaxy's a raffle. I DID buy a Pretty Good ticket before the heats so that's where my allegiance will lie, but I'll agree with everyone who's said Rosca is overs. Know Mistake is in outstanding form, and if Clone Your Own doesn't jump I could see Know Mistake crossing them all. And if Clone Your Own DOES jump he could well run a track record, because he is freakishly fast.
Good to see a pair of distance races on the card too, including the Sockburn Cup (one of my favourite races).

That is absolute rubbish mate. So you honestly encourage jockeys gambling and don't have a problem with it? You know what will happen if they had to declare their bets? They'd get together in the jockeys room and all decide to have a big punt on the 2nd fav, the 'mug' punters would follow the 'good oil' and the drifting favourite would end up bolting in after the jockeys had there 3rd party put the real serious money on late.
Well I guess if Sheriff says a 10k bet on another runner from one of the most well respected jockeys is the least of horse racing's worrys then I guess the industry is doomed.
-
GONSTA got a reaction from Fernlea25 in Damien Oliver
Because most people on here are punters, not horse trainers. I don't really see how it's an 'alleged crime of little significance'. The way this case has been handled by racing Victoria is disgraceful.

Not on course this year, but it looks like Michael Guerin is the Mc again? Correct me if im wrong. Trackside has a big lineup yes, but I still think Mic and Sheldon Murtha should have been there.

Sheriff, you're dead set on drugs. I cannot believe what you are suggesting.
You banned someone a couple of weeks back for saying Mark Purdon was doping his horses and yet now you're condoning jockey's having a punt on the races... I'll have some of what you're having!

If anyone who paid up before now doesn't like my decision and wants out then I will ask Jase to refund their entry. (No one has mentioned the fact that the way I have structured this will create a bigger prize pool). Of course they will not be entitled to earn any prizemoney. I can't be any more fair than that. Issue over.
Let us know on here before the start of race 1 of course if you want a refund.

Day 2 and that wooden spoon is protruding awfully close (to moi).....It's only Phil in front so there is hope for all yet

Rayzor, If you were part of sweep I would take your opinions with more weight but your not so please build a bridge and move on. Nek Minute is about $30 behind the leader so its not a case " Oh im at the top of the scores I might join the sweep now!!!" so I dont see an issue cut off is today before first race so as long as deposit is made he has done it within the rules set by PJ.

Agreed. Different story if he was $30 clear, but rules are rules and its not really a big deal is it. I'd have assumed Razor must have been in the sweep, hope your not losing any sleep over it bud!

I watch the programme every week but now have to tape it and watch it later. I was amazed by the amount of waffle/ padding that goes on in the show. Craig the Whale is the worst for it. I never noticed when I was watching it live. I know the parts where I can fast forward now. Lots of good stuff on the show though from them all - in general - I really like it. They will get better. But would really like to see Mick Guerin back

I know where you are coming from Ray (I concur...) but FFS turn the page mate.
I knew this would happen, even PM'd (no not PJ) late last week alerting
someone to this. No one outside the 13 has "changed" their mind and
requested to join the sweep since Round 1(I think). If they do rip shite out of them!
There was only 1 Peter Perfect, sorry PJ, and it is fairly simple to miss one "small"
detail when setting up a Comp.....especially with the time frame PJ had.
Pursing this one will have an unfortunate ending..... I can feel it.

Don't you find it hilarious the over exaggeration to 2013 melb cup markets a year out from the race, That annoying dweeb Tom Waterhouse had him as low as $7!!!!

Most of the rest of us don't continually boast and brag about our betting prowess like Chris either, and historically he has been the biggest "after the fact" tipster of all. That is the only reason there's any "slamming" right here, right now.

GONSTA got a reaction from Todamax101 in Betting Models
Hi norbit, i am no expert on the matter but you seem to have the general idea behind it, betting 2% of your bank is a common practise used by some professionals. You may want to start keeping a record of your bank with play money and try and work out what races you are most/least successful in. e.g. Backing on pace horses in a race where it looks to be devoid of speed, staying away from horses rising in class from there maiden win's etc... As a keen racing follower i think it's fair to say you want to be staying clear of horses that get back and solely rely on race tempo. Many people black book the horse flashing home for 4th but many forget a horse that battles on well for 4th after having to work early... I know what one win more often.
You will need to record every bet you place and stay away from impulse betting, maybe have 4-5 bets a week depending on what you are keen on, if there is nothing you have confidence to back, then you have to be prepared to not bet at all. ( can always put away a certain amount each week for exotic bets / all ups etc.
Another handy tool is to start doing your own markets before you look at the proper odds set. You will struggle at first, but after a bit of practise you will soon get the hang of it, and can see easily if you are getting 'value'.
Would certainly stay away from long odds on pops, multi'ing multiple horses in multi bets as its a sure fire way to go broke.
I would certainly stay away from Chris Thompson's selections as he can get ANY $1.30 shot beaten, excl. Black Caviar!
Finally if you want to really start punting seriously get away from the NZ TAB. They are absolute poison, open yourself a betfair or go and use some of the Aussie corporates free bet's they all offer.

In fact, zzz - that could be the format for an interesting 'reverse' Losers Get Laid! Same format and conditions [ two 'losses' ie winners, and you're out etc] except it would be to tip one horse each week to WIN with the winner being the one who wins the most money over the period of the comp.
