By the way zzz,the facts are he was pissed, but not the way you think,he was pissed off by trackside and the hangers on that dominate it---i think you will find if he takes legal action against these false accusations more will come from it..-----the disappointing thing is people like you that think you have power jump on board, spouting without any facts. -----and by the way Steve Davis has done more for racing than you have ever because he thinks off others not just himself, and his mirror would only be twice the size of yours.

Did you hear the first few races yesterday? Sounded like Trevor Wilkes commentating skills had been morphed into Brian Martin! I have no facts to say what was being said on course, but I'd be very disappointed in the NZGRA if they were lying about what happened. I was sitting down below the commentators box having a beer in the new grandstand and some of the swear words / arguing that was going on with kids etc around was not a good look... Maybe someone can expand further but I know B.Martin lives for these big nights and I doubt he'd go home even if feeling a bit 'ill'

Is the ultimate professional. for someone who was going to the dog's last night for a quiet night with the wife and child, then getting called into commentate on one of the biggest nights of the years, personally i thought you did a fantastic job and go alot better than Mr Wilkes does! Just read the stipe's report from last night and it said Brian Martin was feeling ill, thats a different yarn to what everyone was saying on course and from some of the voices you could hear being raised in the commentators box... But no solid facts so won't go there.

    Well done Rozo.

I was on course mate and had a brilliant night. Just my 2nd time attending the dogs.

I bloody hope not mate. He's got panel's on any other commentator in NZ. Even Peter Early seems to be getting more and more disinterested by the week. Brian Martin turns a average Friday night meeting into a G1 night, just from his vocal, enthusiastic, accurate and normally brilliant race calls. Obviously he's peeved off about something?

Quick preview of some of the other races on the undercard tonight. Got to burn some time before hitting the road!

Race1- A very tricky contest to start the night with not alot of exposed form. I've gone with Another Raewyn on top with the horrible form line of 6,8,7,8,8,7,7,5,7,6 over her last 10 starts. The majority of those in open class / C4 ranks. Meets a very winnable line up tonight and if you go back to her last start at Wanganui she finished 3rd behind Donna Baxter and Tiz Now who go around in the Dash for Cash tonight. She beat home Bound By Pride and Rosemore Osti which is good enough form to win this race. Currently $4.50 fixed. I expect her to pay atleast $6's on the tote with the current form line.

    Races 2,3- Pass

Race4- I thought Cool Charmer was the first of a few special's tonight. Currently paying $2.70 fixed. Easily the best dog in this field and her confidence should be high after winning impressively from box 8 two weeks ago. Has broken 17.20 on many occasions at Addington and i expect her to be too speedy for this lot and deservedly return into the C5 sprinting ranks. Cawbourne Reeah the only danger IMO and a standout quin.

Race5- Pass. As Far As a demon railer and probably wins with a P.B 17.40 and impressively winning earlier in the week, but no value at $2 fixed.

Race6- Expecting #2,3 to show the early pace in this race with Riley's Mate getting a good sit in behind them from box 5 with a wide runner on his outside. Was unlucky in a Spion Rose heat last weekend and has been very impressive since coming to NZ with close placing's behind Ate To Much, Another Dollar, and White Air over the NZ cup carnival. He should be improved after last weeks run and should run this average lot into the ground. Looks a special.

Race7- Interesting to see See To Believe backing up again today after running at CHCH yesterday. Cant be an ideal build up to this race but thats McInerney for ya! Very tricky race to assess with plenty of early speed. Confident one of 2,5,7 will win and happy to play them in quinellas/tri's. Ate Power was a very impressive run last week after hitting the running rail and really finding the line strongly. If he gets an uninterrupted run from the box's then he will be too strong for them.

Race8- An intriguing race and very tough to assess who will lead early. I think whoever does lead will win tho. Confident it will be either Thrilling Blitz or Darlyne Ottey with a very slow starter on their outside. If they don't hamper each other they look a standout quin. Russel Hart is shorter than i expected on the fixed odds @ 4.5. He's in career best form and gets his favourite box but i couldn't have him against 2 very smart dogs.

    Race's 9-10 posted earlier.

Race11- Thought Complicit was another special against this lot. Was unlucky last week and if he gets a good run from the box's then i expect him to donkey lick them. Expecting Stiff to lead out and Complicit to sit on his outside and be too strong. Is a very strong sprinter with a good racing head, only problem is his box manners but is good enough to overcome that. Currently paying $2.80 fixed.

Race12- Run Lacey Run was super last week in her open class debut. Showed super speed from the box's and was brave enough to try shoulder Zebidiah out the way who is a good 5kg heavier than her. Has slow starters all around her and will be winning this race. Looks a multi anchor at $1.75.

Best bets- Cool Charmer, Riley's Mate, Thrilling Quest, Complicit, Run Lacey Run

Good Luck to all having a punt tonight, should be a super nights racing!

Thanks for the reply, yes Brians calls are great! Unfortunately I didn’t hear any of the action until Rosso was in calling. Was a good night of racing either way, however the reasons surrounding Brian's commentary has somewhat overshadowed the event.

Personally i don't understand where the initiative from people that are running these clubs and charging $10-$20 to get into an average mid week race meeting. When you think about the cost of petrol getting to the course, buying a race book, most even charge you for a bloody pen, then add on top of that hot chips/hot dogs, drinks etc it really starts to add up. Why not include a race book into the cost of entry, maybe a hot chips / drink voucher, even possibly a $5 betting voucher that has to be redeemed on-course... Actually try and get people to come to the races and turnover their money on course, rather than going to the TAB / loading up the phone account...

D4C-Mrs Ed summed it up for me, I think either Donna Baxter or Ocotillo will win, I'm expecting one of those two dogs to lead, if Ocotillo dosen't lead I dont think it will be in the first 3, if Donna Baxter leads, I will be off to visit bookmaker Reilly M, as I think Another Gon will be sitting right behind DB and at 40-1 I'll take a bit of the E/W odds, Ocotillo drawn mid track slow begginer drawn in 4 big hope to lead all the way
    Top3 Donna Baxter-Another Gon-Guru Goose

Spion-Rose- Wont be visiting bookmaker Reilly M in this one, think he has the Tri in one, possible leaders White Air, Cool Izmir, but I think Pretty Good will lead this field slow beginner Ultimate Dream in 6 and a fair beginner in PekingTom in 8, Thrilling Quest to be stalking the leaders in 4th spot and turning for home challenging Pretty Good and going clear close to home White Air railing into 2nd close to home Pretty Good hanging onto third and Peking Tom rounding out the top 4

Whatever happens hope everyone has a profitable day, and i'll have a beer with ya RM i'll raise my Carlton Coldie over here in OZ when we strike the Tri

    Cheers

Shouldn't NZ adopt the same rule....ie Nicky Chilcott, she was caught red handed with performance enhancing drugs and yet she is still allowed to train and drive. Bloody joke. If you are caught red handed your bloody guilty. It is NOT a misunderstanding, how dumb does she think we all are, obviously not as stupid as she is....

    My thoughts...

D4C.. Two threats to your assesment Reilly: Donna or Zebidiah jumps. If either of them do, there's carnage and GG gets a nice run around the outside and wins. I'm sure one of them will so with box 8, GG WINS. So we are only querying 2nd and 3rd. Callahan is a good dog but needs space out wide, so its mayhem, therefore GG/F/F.

Spion: The two Fahey runners are sure to both jump and could easily worry each other out of the win as Quest is just so strong and likely to come over the top. I really can't see anything other than a 2,5,7 trifecta the order depending on how things pan out in the run. As much as i'm a big fan of Peking Tom I have a feeling he'll be out of the running iintially but make up a favourites first 4

I'm not as negative on Brighton Bullet as you are, though all your points are entirely correct (including $4.50 being unders). The 3 and 5 in that heat aren't faultless beginners either, so it's possible that he jumps, they don't and he has plenty of room to the turn. I won't be touching the $4.50 (or the $1.80 for the heat) though.

The second heat is the race of the night, to the point that it would be perfectly acceptable as a final. I'm a massive No Undies Sundy (and Pretty Good. And Benny Rox) fan, so while I won't be putting one red cent on the race I'm really looking forward to it.

I don't mind Russell Hart in the third heat. Peking Tom ($2) has the 1-box in a six-dog field, so he'll have less traffic to get around which kind of ruins my Russell Hart idea, and the vacant boxes are 7 and 8 so his Box 5 draw doesn't look as good as it did when the 4 scratched (though he could have clear air on his outside to the turn, so could avoid being squeezed which will help him early). Not sure about his chances of beating Another Dollar ($1.90, Box 2, should fly early).

I actually didn't mind Thrilling Blitz as a roughie in the White Air/Darlyne Ottey heat before looking at the market, but he's not as rough as I'd hoped (only paying 21s for the final). I do make it a race in three though (and I say that as a Fancy Tip fan).

Think I'll take Another Dollar ($10) and Peking Tom ($12) in the third heat, White Air ($9) and Darlyne Ottey ($12) in the fourth, chuck a little something on Russell Hart ($61) and maybe Thriling Blitz ($21) just in case, then look for Brighton Bullet to find trouble in the first and Sam I Am to somehow miss out on qualifying off the ace in the second (or maybe I should hope he qualifies then draws any other box in the final?).

Super fields at Wanganui tomorrow night, thought id do a little preview and try and get some discussion around what should be 2 fantastic races Friday week.

Firstly id like to give a big thumbs down to the NZ tab greyhound bookie... Had 6+ races at Cambridge tonight that he was pre-selling on, for what is a fairly sh*t meeting, yet he has NOTHING open for tomorrow, which are up there with some of the best fields Ive seen the last 6 months. He has no futures market on the Dash for Cash which is a first for mine, what the hell has he been doing? Don't punters deserve better than what these muppets are providing.

I see he has opened up Brighton Bullet a clear favorite for this series at $4.50. In my opinion that is massive unders. Obviously a very talented animal and im still hurting from his loss on NZ cup night where he was a absolute certainty beat! Doesn't have the best box manners and from box 4 in his heat, i can see him running into some trouble on his first look at Wanganui. If he finds the rail early, watch out tho. Willing to bet around him.

Thrilling Quest is my clear top pick for the Spion rose. Is low flying since returning from a decent break. Has opened up $2.80+ every start since returning. Ive been all over her! Always been a massive fan of the dog, awesome chaser. She's beaten Bigtime Kinvara on his merits when he was at his peak. Winning that day in a 29.80. Id say that would be good enough to win the final, think shes improved since then as well. Currently paying $12 on futures.

Darlyne Ottey / White air are the other 2 dogs i think are value backing before the heats tomorrow. paying $12 and $9 respectively.

Dash for Cash looks an extremely competitive race this year, Guru Goose would be my top pick before the heats tho. What a shame we cant bet on it till the draws are done next week... First world problems!

Wonder if they are even looking or are happy to continue flying down McNamara / Simon for premier meetings and using Mike O'Sullivan for the average mid week rubbish.

If it was my job trying to find an appropriate replacement I'd be looking strongly at Australia. There is a young commentator in NSW that calls the gallops / greys called Luke Marlow. He won the 'John Tapp race calling scholarship and for someone only 20/21 years old he calls EXTREMELY well and is only going to get better. Not sure what sort of deal he has over their but he's a super talent.

Amazing performance by a 3yo filly to do what she did... Against some big colts, and against hardened stayers that is phenominal.

As expected the overseas raiders finished down the track. Japan looks one of the hardest places to travel horses too and run successfully. They have a terrible record in the Japan Cup.

Next time the Japanese decide to come over and try win the Melbourne cup again, I will deadset be plonking it on them. Simply superior IMO.

One of the great races to watch each year is on today, anyone have any tips / discussion around it or does nobody care? My respect for Asian horse racing in general has gone thru the roof the last couple of months... Cleanest / most well run horse racing in the world.

I thought Orfevre looked close to a special. Massive run last start ( $30000+ matched on betfair at $1.01 in play ) in the arc. Some of the overseas raiders haven't had an ideal prep, but this race is known to throw up an upset.

On a side note, does anyone find it weird how the NZ tab shove all this American gallops / harness down our throats, along with all the other crap sport they promote in 'watch and bet', yet we still only get 1 race out of Japan in one of the biggest meetings in the world. Joke!
