You can bet early by posting up what you want even if there are no other bets there. So like I said just do it when you normally take the TABs fixed prices and put the extra you want on up on betfair. If it gets taken you're happy and if it doesnt well no big loss but I would think you'll get on more than you expect.

    Just a thought anyway.

Brodie. Sickopunters example is a good one as it shows the market at 101% which is ridiculous and 17k matched which is also pretty good.

I would just think seeing as you have said you are restricted and you find it frustrating that you cant get more on that at the very least you could just take your prices with the TAB that you want to win 2k and then anymore that you would have had on if you werent restricted you could just post up on betfair at the same prices. Just because the price gets knocked off on the TAB doesn't mean betfair will follow. If anything Ive seen numerous runners drifting out when theyve come in on the TAB. In no way is this a knock on you Brodie as you're more than likely a more successful punter than myself but I dont see how you can complain about the TAB's restrictions and market percentage etc and just continue to do the same thing. This is exactly what the TAB wants as they know they have very little competition and can treat punters with absolute disrespect and they assume we wont do anything about it. I just feel one of the small things I can do to show my disgust with the way they operate is to take my business elsewhere. Im sure at this point in time the TAB doesnt see betfair as much of a threat but if all of us annoyed punters started using betfair then more would follow as the action increased. Suddenly if TABs turnover decreased and they noticed betfair was getting say 50k turnover on races, maybe the TAB would start doing things differently.

Anyway thats my long rant haha. I definitely reckon you would get some benefit out of betting on betfair even if it is just a supplementary site to the TABs

You're a terrible listener. If someone puts up a 1k lay at 5s and someone puts up 5 bucks at 5.3 the 5.2 goes in front. You aren't looking at all the odds offered, just the top ones.
    I give up.

Having crap sites is not just the domain of the NZ TAB, in fact I actually don't mind the NZ TAB site.
Its easy to navigate around and I have no complaints about it.

I might have to keep an eye out on that Kakama thanks for the tip

Yeah I dont tend to bet thousands on shorties just a few hundred sometimes on something at a bit of each way money. Usually a lot smaller than that but usually one a race day I have a bit of a go at. I havent had much of an issue getting on since Ive started on there. I'll keep an eye out this weekend about how much gets matched but Im sure Ive seen some upwards of $10k over the last month

I've only just started using betfair the last couple of weeks and I've regularly gotten on for well over the TAB prices. There is no way I'd be the biggest punter here but I'm getting on to win for more than $2k on runners on betfair and thats more I can get on at the TAB. Plus this last week I just started to lay some runners which helps me get a better collect on the one I like.

If all you do is complain about the TAB and then still bet regularly with them then why would they change? Agree it would be nice if there were some NZ based bookmakers that could compete with the TAB so theyd be forced to try and offer a better product but at the moment the best competitor is betfair, so may as well play on there

Its great for NZ racing too. You just have to be patient and understand that its an exchange and the best odds will be close to the jump.

Why Do the problems that have been on going at Auckland continue? Perhaps, looking at the the picture  the  trackside camera  shows , focusing for all to see, as they zoom in to the troublesome sprint boxes, the first sign of deterioration is the algae STAINED  unused advertising space above the boxing area,    the second,  the weeds and un kept bottom of the fence that is the prime focus for all to see. Honestly, if the management and committee cant get on top of these simple requirements , because quite simply, they are not performing at the basic level required to promote our sport . Should they stand down.? The drainage at the winning post is a problem and  several meetings  must have been close to being called off. Has the committee ever thought of investing in a simple water pump to drain the excess water off to the centre of the track?, Does the manager and consequently the track manager actually care enough to worry about these obvious mundane things?

Well done Gonsta.  $70 to recycle into another comp and a nice little profit for you, with a chance at a bigger collect - although the way Billy Elliot rode Nomisma, I don't fancy your chances on Summers Day   (and I certainly hope the Scum don't win - not because of your bet, but just because they're the Scum)

There is inference with just cause. We find a corrupt NZGRA board member trying to fong his dogs with illegal drugs that we now know are undetectable by our local NZ Lab. The reason that almost all positives in NZ are accidental ones could be the result of limited testing abilities of the local lab. I think most thinking people involved with Greyhounds would be highly skeptical of the quality of our swabbing system after the revelations of the RIU in the Scott case. In my view, a percentage of swabs should be peer reviewed at an offshore lab. This would go a long way into restoring confidence in the swabbing process.

Bit over the top isn't it Scooby? How can you be sued when Charles has not named names. We all know there are cheats but none of us can prove it. What Charles is doing is pointing out some of the shady shit that goes on in this sport that we are already aware of. Surely we can state our opinions on here without the threat of being chucked off. Whatever happened to freedom of speech?

Further to my last post, this business with male dogs is not new. As alluded to in previous posts, the $250,000 Platium Paws race, conducted by the CH CH Greyhound Club yrs ago, turned up positives to steroids in a number of dogs, but was swept under the carpet as it was an embarrassment to the authorities to find an overseas lab uncover all these positives to banned steroids. They have done NOTHING since then to address this cheating. It has become so prevalent in my view that all results concerning male dogs are to be treated with caution.

GOM, i think what Yankiwi is alluding to, is because we all now know the authorities cannot test male dogs for steroids, it now caste's doubt on all results concerning male dogs. I can understand where he's coming from.
I think its beholden on all honest people whom are involved with Greyhounds to keep up unrelenting pressure on the NZGRA, RIU, to get a test for male dogs as soon as possible, and in the meantime to send offshore swabs to Labs where the testing can be done.

If you backed it at fixed odds then yes you can say you backed it at $3.80.
If you backed it on the tote you didn't back it at $3.80 - you backed it at a totalisator price which can change as more money is bet.  The tote prices on display are only indicative and not final until money (incl commingling) is in the pool.

Problem i have Merv, is how can you trust any results anymore. With the RIU admitting they are unable to detect certain drugs, and the cheats having full rein knowing they can get away with it, then all results on the track are now in doubt. It has been getting worse year by year. The Ass has been complicit in the use of Steroids in bitches until recent times. They even advised trainers in the journal to take their bitches to the vet to get their dose of Anabolic Steroids when it had been clearly laid out in their very own rule book that Steroids were a prohibited substance. The reason for the advise to have the bitches done at the vet was because trainers had their own vials of Steroids, and were administering huge amounts to their bitches. Roll on a few yrs and finally the Ass was shamed into recognising their own rule book and outlawed Steroids in bitches. Now the bitches find they are having to compete against drugged up Steroid freak dogs because the useless RIU are unable to test them because the lazy bas#ards havn't created a threshold for dogs. They have sat on their fat a##'s, drawing their fat salaries, and done nothing. #ucken makes me mad just thinking how badly we are served by these useless so and so's.
We have a lab that is useless, only capable of detecting what kids in a school science lab could detect, chocolate, coffee, tea, penicillin. We have an over staffed RIU that is more intent on dress codes, and kennel inspections that uncovering the real crime, live baiting, drug cheats. They can't even read a race, let alone have the nouse to recognise a suspect performance on the track, swab the dog, blood test the dog, and send the sample to Hong Kong, or even Fiji that now doubt have a better Lab than our sorry excuse.
I now realise racing has now been taken over by the cheats. We have a limp, inpotent RIU. We have corruption going all the way to board level. We have silence from the RIB, NZGRA, RIU, on how they are going to instill confidence back into racing, where at the momment cheats are reigning supreme because of inabilitys to detect simple drugs.
I suppose we will get the usual answer, just make a new position to cover it. Drug detection officer. RIU, they will just expand their phone book. Game is stuffed.

and a reminder about the prizes (as per the original thread):
First place will earn a $155 bet, 2nd place a $70 bet and third place a $25 bet.  Moose (1st place) and I (2nd & 3rd) will place bets to these values chosen by the top 3 and they will get to keep any profit earned on this bet - if they're successful they make some risk-free money and this allows us to recycle some or all of the money into the next competition.

Lets summarize what we know thus far. A Greyhound board member has been found guilty of attempting to administer a prohibited drug Fertagyl, a steroid to one of his male dogs. He know's this is safe to do because he is privy to confidential information gleaned through his trusted position on the board of Greyhounds NZ. He has learn't the RIU are not in a position to detect doped male dogs with certain Anabolic Steroids. He aquires the prohibited drug Fertagyl and gives it to his trainer with instruction to administer it to one of his boy dogs. This person was only discovered because the trainer went to the RIU armed with conclusive evidence. The RIU was supplied with evidence that was overwhelming, so much so that the defendant pleads guilty.
I cast my mind back to the much vaunted Silver Platinum, a race for $250,000 conducted by the CH CH Greyhound Club over 520 mtrs. When was that, maybe about 2010. All runners in that event were swabbed, with the samples being sent offshore to be tested in a real lab, unlike what we have here. From memory about 15 of them came back positive to Steroids. The NZGRA claimed after this, that it was only a trial, and not an exercise to catch cheats. The reality was they were embarrassed and shocked, and because of the number nothing was done. They didn't want to spoil the party of NZ's richest race.
Now here we are yrs later and nothing has changed, only gotten worse. It now reaches the board with stinking rotten cheats. We here in evidence from the keystone cops, RIU, they still cannot test here in NZ. Yet in Australia, they can, and do, and put out the cheats.
The RIU need not pat themselves on a job well done in this inquiry, as they did nothing, it was handed to them on a plate. The test will be wether they follow the trails from this point, and get rid of the cancer that is rife in all our racing. They need to be collecting historical swabs from blinkered non chasing imports and local dogs that predate Scott being charged. They need to send them offshore to be tested for Fertagyl and any other illicit substances. They have a real opportunity here to weed out the cheats.
