On one hand a few people still have respect for the national anthem and on the other hand it can be bloody hard to hear an interviewer with it blaring in the background.  Interviewers don't seem to be very deep thinkers.

Personally I'd far rather hear Justin filling in than Rodley who has no interviewing technique or Leith who states the obvious in a voice that sounds like he's reading from a book.

Speaking of those horsemen " coming home", there's no doubting the horsemanship of the the O'Sullivan/Scott  team but they seem to have become more solid since Paul came home. May be coincidence but just an observation. 

After the "worst drive ever" I wonder did any of the complainants think to talk directly to said driver about their view of the situation or was it simply easier to throw criticism under the cover of anonymity?

Anyway the whole Trackside/Te Akau personnel clique is pretty incestuous (figuratively only I hope) and needs to be diluted in the coverage and  have a more professional, broader coverage protocol of racing on Trackside.  Go and look for some human interest stories Sweeney, beyond Te Akau and Cambridge Stud! ( Maybe a DEEP dive into all the major winners--who bred them, what they sold for,  their physical attributes or lack of, trainer insights into their idiosyncrasies etc etc) Just saying.

It continues the appalling record over recent years of the top classic winning 3yos not going on with it as older horses. If any crop of 3yos looked like they might do it it was last seasons. Now it is down to Legarto and Sharp N Smart, and the latter looks a bit of a worry at the moment.

Harkening back to the good old days is understandable.
The fact is that we don't really breed stayers any more. There's too much money to be made at shorter distances for younger horses.
The stakes being offered are totally out of proportion to the available pool of horses in staying races.
It isn't confined to this country. Most staying races in Australia are contested by UK imports. It's a sad combination of breeding for speed and a general inability to allow horses to mature properly.
I'll probably get shot down for this but it's my opinion.

The horses are all lined up at the start. The jockey is in control???? but he misses the kick by 6 lengths. Do you disqualify the jockey? I doubt it. Sure it's a group race but it's just another race. Racing is littered with hard luck stories. Just the nature of the beast.
