My brother works as an engineer on a  trawler in Iceland, should he be considered a ' frozen seaman"??

Trouble with claimers is not enough people up here are realistic on what there horse is worth. There would be plenty of rating 40-50 horses that could fit into a claiming systems but owners won’t  put realistic prices on there horses

Having watched an exciting free- going jumper win numerous races then lose form, I have felt for a while Thenamesbond is steadily heading towards the same category as TD. Just my opinion though.

If Ladbrokes and Neds, both Aussie based betting agencies, can display the full name of placed horses, why can't NZ's TAB?
We all know the answer why they can't; Because they are $!*@!*# useless.
But just thought I would highlight the difference in the same product.

Hope for the good of harness racing that is the last tote montetrot..... what a farce. Even the TAB must be confused as them paying 2nd to 4th money back could mean all bets up to $30 refunded ?as 4th to last all disq. therefore all 4th equal.. leave them for novelty racing .OR they will do more harm than good to harness racing .  and dont quote turnovers as guinea pig racing would attract punting at 5.30 on a friday !  21 6  2019 race1 Auckland Trotting Club

If the talk of doubling stakes here ever eventuated the same thing would happen and we'd be  no better off. It's all relative.

With you on this one Col inasmuch as we need proponents of and for the industry. Cafers constantly bemoaning the lack of newspaper coverage of racing generally and especially harness promotion but the moment someone comes along with a depth of knowledge and an opinion (which we all have, I might add, hence Racecafe) the tall poppy syndrome comes into play. Often he says what many of us are thinking. The industry needs more like him. The Aussies have plenty of them.

It's inevitable some horses are going to go over hurdles/ steeples later in their careers regardless of how they are bred. I personally don't put a lot of store in breeding when assessing their ability on certain track conditions either. A number of good summer sprinters/gallopers have turned out good jumpers on wet tracks. The only rule is there are no rules.

Boss Hogg and Blue the race was at the Taumaranui meeting at Waipa on the 26/7/75. Barwyn won by a head from Dumar and paid $140.65 and $25.95. He was a massive horse by the obscure Golovine stallion Isobar trained by his Rotorua owner trainer TP Fuller. I was there that day and had a dollar each way on him because he was ridden by Tauranga apprentice Mike Sullivan. Mike and I at that time rode a lot of track work at Tauranga where he did his apprenticeship with his Uncle Syd Sullivan.

He didn't look quite as sharp JS because he didn't get matters all his own way this time and never had to work like that before. This was one step up and he's made that move but from now it'll be like going from Super Rugby to the ABs - a whole new ballgame. Can't fault 7 from 7 but this far out from the Cup he'd want to be 20s at least before I'd touch him. Good to have a new star on the horizon though.

Few things about Thatz David . TAB has him both 3rd and last 7 of 7 last week. Odd stuff really .He ran last .
More importantly not quite sure why he's being risked again  159 runs , no form nowdays , 13 years old , no chance , deserves to get out alive , giving reasonably hard ride last week , will get no doubt another one this week. Not my idea of sport but up to owner . Someone could say oh well horses die in fields but a lot die over the sticks , is there any need to risk him.
I will eat some humble pie if he wins , he won't though .

The only punt for the club is the weather. Were it gallops it would have been canned. I had a work day interrupted so watched the whole thing from my lounge
Bloody good coverage, bloody good racing, bloody good that there was a roughy placed in every race. I have no problem with any of the commentators. You have to keep the banter going and if you dont agree with their assessment then follow your own logic. That's what punting is all about although I never had a bet all day. Maybe that's why I enjoyed it. Got a share in something lining up tomorrow so saving it for that.
