Abandonments are up 200pct on 10 years ago but strangley not much change in Saturday Abandonment rate - I wonder why ? Just a coincidence Im Sure

Why arent Saturday meets abandoned to the same rate as the this midweeks and No, the correlation is with stake money and not the particular track.  Being a jockey carries inherent risks - but at the moment it is being sanitised out of existence.

Yes, great performance but the race wouldn't want to have been another metre longer.

My pet gripe has always been, the moment the last race horses have passed the post the commentator and the team sign off in about twenty seconds - finito. Surely good PR to show the horses back to scale, interview the jockey as per every other race and give the final dividends. Too hard apparently.

I don't mind big maiden fields. Can pick up good place money.
That said, I'm going Love Symbol in R2. $4 acceptable as I think it's pretty handy.

Hard to beat the soundness/injury/survival averages. The good ones and the slow ones are equally prone.

It also highlights the mathematical stupidity of the rating system.
So many horses rated below 50, and so few in the higher rating bands .... and the powers that be don't seem to understand why.
Let's apply some year 2 maths to the situation ....
After the Ashburton meeting:
14 horses will go up 6 ratings points on average. Possibly even less than 14 will go up as some winners may be eligible for a free win. 42 horses will stay on the same rating 140 will drop to an even lower rating (if they haven't already bottomed out on 35 points) Any fool can see that it's a mathematical certainly that an ever increasing percentage of the horse population will keep heading into the sub 50 rating band.
Therefore it's also a mathematical certainty that fewer and fewer horse will be available to fill the higher rated races.
Eventually a 51 rating will be considered FFA grade!

The big question is who put their dosh up , more money than sense IMO .

It also shows you the number of owners who are prepared to defy logic and statistics and keep 'having a go' with their maidens.

These two should get automatic entry in next years main events. Swayzee deserves a shot at a threepeat in the Cup and if it was marketed properly it would bring the crowd. Just mho.

I think the favourite is big unders. One horse who will love this way around and the track conditions is Whiskey 'N Roses. Smart horse and value at $19.

Perhaps a bit harsh Nomates? I think it's been established if the grass was shorter or had been mowed close to raceday the problem may well have been alleviated. All history now anyway, just back to the drawing board.
