  1. This left the teenagers such as Smiling Shard and Choice Achiever and other 4 year olds to carry the kiwi flag, which was an impossible task.Quote John Legend. Too true, and though they performed with credit their performances since show how tough it is on a younger horse when stepping up to foot it with the big guns.
  2. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttt..............
  3. I think you're just trying to 'stirrup' things.
  4. Too true. We have plenty of good looking and competent Kiwi female riders who ride at the premier meetings and in the bush as well and everyone gets treated the same. I think the US programme is nauseating.
  5. I think it's pretty close to training fees without the vet, smithy, transport etc.
  6. Letter to British PM. Bloody funny but the more often you read this, the more you realise if we had a PM with big enough balls and a dose of anarchy this could really work. Dear Mr. Cameron, Please find below our suggestion for fixing the UK's economy. Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan: There are about 10 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them 1 million each severance for early retirement with the following stipulations: 1) They MUST retire. Ten million job openings - unemployment fixed 2) They MUST buy a new British car. Ten million cars ordered - Car Industry fixed 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed 4) They MUST send their kids to school/college/university - Crime rate fixed 5) They MUST buy
  7. No, I'm still here Tele - and my Missus. She wasn't going anywhere cos she just bought a fortnights groceries on Friday LOL.
  8. What's the point, no-one to read them after 6. It had better end. I didn't pay my rates yesterday - no point - but if it doesn't happen I'm going to get a 10% penalty on Monday for being late. I'll be pissed off if that happens I can tell you.
  9. But how gullible are their customers? Often you'll find two of something is double the price of one. Displayed on a big sign shoppers immediately think they're getting a better deal. Likewise a dozen of something simply double that of one, not cheaper as may have been the case once upon a time.
  10. ....or does it just start with 'W' and rhyme with 'planking'?
  11. Over time there have been a few threads about 'team driving' involving this family and this stable. I saw what I thought was a good example of team driving last weekend in the 2 yr old go at Addington. I'm not saying it was blatant but it was certainly obvious to me. Orl Black took the front at an easy pace. Texican sat three back leading the two out line and giving the leader an easy one. Then, when Monahan moved up, Texican was forced to move up into the death to protect Orl Black and keep Monahan three wide. Problem was, though Monahan was gone at the half, 200 out Orl Black couldn't win either which left Texican to do the job but he'd had the harder run and couldn't quite repel the finish of Western Cullen. Is it only team driving if it comes off?
  12. Either ring Darrin Williams or the club secretary who, I believe, has the right to change conditions depending on numbers and calibre of nominations.

    Roseraire

IMHO if she was worth anywhere near $25K she'd have gone to Aussie long since. Put her in the ring on Sunday and she'd be lucky to make $10K. Again just MHO.
  14. Hone & Johnny, Johnny & Hone, whichever way you look at it I can't think of two people who deserve each other more.
  15. I guess every raceday is different but for guys who eat and sleep racing yesterday was a shocker for pickers like SD and George Simon who should have seen how things were going early in the day. If you werent in the first 3 or 4 at the turn you weren't in the finish, generally those leading ran out the winners, yet GS still insisted on picking topweights and favourites "despite their big weights" while acknowledging the success of those with allowances. 3 & 4 kg allowances always have to be considered in winter racing regardless of form
  16. Pretty easy to offer help if we're not actually having to deal with the problem ourselves but good to hear of a successful outcome and I hope it continues.
  17. Yeah, yeah, yeah we've all paid our taxes ra, ra, ra. $10 a week in a savings account would have been a big help. What have you done with your money through twenty years of good times? Spent the bloody lot I'd say. Don't look for handouts. I certainly don't have a $1m in the bank but I can race a horse and have a beer and a bet when i like and life's pretty good and I don't rely on any bastard. Stop bloody whingeing.
  18. So was Mirkola Lass priced too high at $90K? (allowing that everything is negotiable.) Whisper is she might go just a bit over what was offered.
  19. He should have #1 down last. It'll be the hardest to achieve, if not nigh on impossible. LOL. Never really picked him as a stand-up comedian.
  20. Jeez that's bad isn't it, not knowing the difference between a filly and a colt. Either way the father had some ability as a hurdle jockey.
  21. Where do you go when you get him on? Is he going to somewhere that scares him? I don't like getting all psychological but who knows how a horse thinks. Just drive around the block and bring him home again or shut the door, give him some tucker and don't take him anywhere.
  22. They appeared only to be going a little more than hunting pace until about half a mile out but i agree Pam, jockeys today ride so high their knees aren't even on the saddle therefore they have no grip. They ride almost completely on the reins so the slightest bump dumps them off. Just a sign of the times I think.
  23. Hear, hear!! And if you need to handicap horses (eg 1 & 2 win trotters) Give the looser assessed the better draws. Simple really but hardly an incentive for people to go to the races or to bet.
  24. And then the top 'chasing mare Falada for Graeme Crawford. Noel Eastwood (Postie) was about 40 kgs wringing wet . Rode the flying filly Starlit for the Stead family somewhere mid-60s. Peter Wilson, hurdles hoop was dairy farming near Te Aroha at one stage. Lance Rokela, Chris Freakley who sired a filly in the late 80's to a lady trainer still around today.

Great drive.Though he was second last in the running he almost looked the winner a lap out with a bit of pressure on up front. Was certainly the winner when he moved up wide 300 out. Good to watch good horses in action.
