  1. With the forecast fine-ish but cool one would imagine there won't be much drying so Rotorua tomorrow will be like glue and could even trip up a number of wet-trackers. Winter racing at it's best.
  2. Personally I don't have a problem with three year old hurdlers. There's unlikely to be many of them anyway but I cant see a problem with a mature, well-trained horse going 2800 over half a dozen batten fences. I recall the odd one some 50 or more years ago. Not sure about purpose-bred jumpers here either. Anything can be taught to jump to some degree. Some take to it, some don't but tradtionally our jumpers have been re-cycled flat gallopers with former sprinters often being the best over the longer distances.
  3. Not really sure how you can compare trainers. Firstly purchasing "top" priced yearlings is no guarantee of success. Walker hasn;t had the luxury of the likes of Avantage, Melody Belle or Probabeel. Promising two and three year old fillies from the previous season didn't really come up this season for whatever reason. On the other hand he's won a bloody lot of lower grade races, especially maidens, with largely untried three and four year olds that Jamie did very little with. A number of these were in the winter last year when the stable had previously gone into hibernation, plus a few over the jumps - a relatively new venture. All in all 170 odd winners with three months of the season still to run is hard to disparage. Just mho.
  4. Walker today quoted as saying yesterday's winner Prismatic is a handy jumper and could later line up at the Bool. Another hint towards a Victorian move methinks.
  5. Heard a whisper too and agree re the second part. Hard not to follow the money under our current situation but it may leave the stable here with a long line of second stringers because anything showing promise would surely go over the ditch. Of course only smoke at this stage - no fire.
  6. Looking now like one of those who's a perpetual maiden. Always thereabouts but running out of excuses.
  7. I invested some milk money for an interest as well. She didn't appear overly vigorous on a couple but to be fair I'm not sure she had a lot to work with.
  8. Race 2 5: 15 pm C4. 1200m #9. Super Contented - J Mac (3g Tivaci-Repenting, Ekraar) Offered as Lot 265 R to Run 2021. Psd $150K Second start tonight after a debut 10th. Will probably need 1600m to win a C4 in H Kong, but gets the McDonald affect. Race 4 6:15pm C4 1400m #1. Happy For All Z Purton (3g Impending ) Fourth start tonight. James won on him at his first start in HK. Barrier 7. On that run Super Contented won't be around for long.
  9. Could be mistaken but I think he also wan a Cornwall Handicap on very good mare Several back when the race actually had some kudos. Would have been early 60s.

    Pet Peeve

    Hahaha, point taken.
  11. Georgie Simon, Divici Belle is NOT Da Vinci Belle. No 'a', NO 'n' . Just irks me when names are cocked up. Rant over.

    Nats Back

Interesting to see Kirsten Green winning the 2yo race today behind a Purdon runner.
  13. Maybe the horse just stopped off for a quick drink at a local cow trough.
  14. Hmmmmm..............the same could have been said about Dynastic. Best to take one race and one season at at time imho.
  15. A brace of summer days in the north but my forecast says an inch of rain up until about 2pm on Friday. What do the pundits reckon, will this harm the track? Maybe do it the world of good.
  16. Yes rdytdy, despite being held up for a couple of strides at a vital stage she still won going away. Half a length or more clear in another stride. Great performance.
  17. Was the commentator who was calling it Alexander Park. After all, it's only been there 100 years.
  18. Especially given they can barely card a race with a full front line.
  19. and I don't think Wild Night is a high class MARE. Just sayin'.
  20. Agree Barryb. With the first race often getting towards 1pm I'm not usually ready for a bite until 3-ish by which time cafe food has been in the warmer for six or more hours. I don't expect a lot but by then there's little other choice and not terribly inviting.
  21. Echoing the sentiments of others. No doubting his experience but adds nothing in the area of personality though it happens in every sport. Top rugby players don't neccessarily make top coaches.
  22. Don't really think it's sad Turny. His body has had enough beatings. I guess there'd be no chance of luring him back here for Trackside. Going by his SKY presentation he'd be streets ahead of what's on offer now.
  23. I have a share in a TA horse but I'm not married to them. I rarely back their horses because A) odds are too short or they have 3,4,5 in the one race but given she'd been once out of the first 4 in 15 starts I'm a little surprised our tipsters completely overooked Felicienne in the last. Sure she was favourite but $3.60 was still good money in that field.
  24. Three seconds and a third I think. Horse in the 9th race has taken a bit of working out but worth watching I think.
