  1. In his apprentice days Nigel Landers was known as 'Long Shot'.
  2. Will have to wait until the rail is in the true place again to compare to KM raceday. Six mtrs out doesn't prove a he'll of a lot imo.
  3. Always makes me wonder why NZ gallops don't start loading until almost the advertised start time and generally start 3-4 minutes over time. I know most harness are mobiles but usually start scoring up 20 secs early and start within a few seconds of advertised time. Must be $$ related.
  4. I wonder if there'll be any room for Donna Logan in the equation.
  5. Good point but also the track today will be quite different from KM day as there's been no rain for a fortnight and pretty high temperatures. Interested to see the outcome.
  6. Promiscuous babies don't have a particularly hard job in amassing enough prizemoney to start in the KM. If you happen to be referring to TA well they had won seven in a row so human nature decrees they'd love to make it eight. Owners, trainers and jockeys would all realistically love to get a piece of $1million or more (wouldn't we all ?) and sometimes, not neccessarily intentionally, the dollar takes precedence and these very much developing youngsters are asked to give 110% when they're not quite ready for it.
  7. And also be interesting to see what measures are taken - any jumpouts or trials- to consider it entirely safe prior to two big meetings in three weeks.
  8. Was in jockeys room at Pukekohe talking to Grenville while a race was running. I was a teenager. I said I was going to back the filly in front. He said " she's weak. She might win but she's weak." She did win but G also said " always remember when you're in front you're out of any trouble and you're closer to home than anything else." Wise words.
  9. Funnily enough I suspect if you did the same exercise on the 500 odd yearlings that go through Karaka you probably get the same net result, relatively speaking - if not worse in most cases.
  10. $20k stake so doubled his purchase price at least.
  11. Opium - slow working dope.
  12. I'm sure they all give their best and we ( the onlookers) all tend to expect different things from them. Jayne may be a revelation but don't forget she's now a Mum with different priorities as is Emily so pulling her into the mix , as accomplished as she is, might not work like we would like it to. Time will tell.
  13. Blue

    Hawera noms.

Didn't he drive a horse called Charlie Chan to win somewhere?
  14. Trying to be constructive ATA. If you're promoting racing you need clips of horses and you need clips of people. If it's only on Trackside you're preaching to the converted. Take BGP for example. They splash themselves around everywhere. Just mho.
  15. Agree Scoobs, it was new but not sure about innovative. If we really want to create interest and get people involved, we have to actually get people involved
  16. All we heard was Emily's voice and on the second draw she was one horse in arrears. I prefer something like the Melbourne Cup draw when there is some human action, reaction and interaction as owners pick a number out of a barrel. Just mho.
  17. Doesn't change anything for me. Inside portion of the track not used yet. Anything could happen. Rather boring I thought.
  18. And what's the difference between a 1200 maiden or Open jumpout with 5 runners and a trial, same distance and number of starters?
  19. But do Guineas races have any status any more ?
  20. Animal rights nutters will win. All horses will be set free and all racing will be computer generated.
  21. Sorry not Sans Doute, was Rhetorical referred to in the 'orange' colours the race before SD.
  22. If you listened to Flemington yesterday you'd have heard the commentator say " and Sans Doute in the orange on the far side." Maybe should have gone to Specsavers.
  23. And I hope they don't have a rendition of the National Anthem(s) before the Cup. Hardly an event to celebrate.
