Big call.  Tommy Smith never spared him even after he had broken down.  And they didn't set the tracks up to suit him in those days either.
Two unbelievable horses but Dufficy and Radley were surprised the other day when McKee effectively conceded that Winx was better than Sunline.
Wonderful wonderful horses from different eras and how good is it to have lived to see them all?

Not lately they haven't.  And despite having a flash new CEO who appears to be doing a great job turning the Company around Westland will pay less than Fonterra this year as well.
The Dairy industry is akin to the racing industry in that the blokes producing the product are at the whim and mercy of the overpaid fat cats at the top who have forgotten who ultimately pays the bills.  Both industries are afflicted with Boards and Executives who go off on tangent schemes then when the proverbial hits the fan and the (inevitable) enormous bill comes in they suddenly decide to retire 'for personal reasons'.
Bloody frustrating and when you are dealing with farmer clients who are struggling it is quite sad.  I would love to wave a magic wand and fix everything but like the racing industry they are being swept along in a wave over which they have no control.

good point - we need every $ we can from sponsors - which leads me to saying I try and support sponsors where I can, especially if I have a horse in a race.
Had a starter at Trentham two weeks back - Yealands wine were the sponsors. Obviously suited me to support them, but I made a point of buying a mixed dozen of their reds (including a few of the top of their range). I contacted Yealands marketing department and told them why I had purchased and thanked them for their sponsorship. Also let the Club know.
And I will be doing so again as the wine is bloody good and it is disappearing fast. Gives them a tangible return, and took me all of 2 minutes to drop them a line - to which they sent a great thank you note and said they were excited about getting involved at Trentham.
Just a thought which others might want to pick up on

PS - the Tempranillo is great fun

I raced one in a Te Akau syndicate out of Censibelle - No Nonsense.
Was my first galloping winner actually - funny horse but had a bit of ability on his day.
Te Akau "decided" he would suit Singapore - he didn't

The Cubemeister reckons Mrs Cubes never reads our postingness on this site , so our personal confessions here about moneyness never get read by the boss , so our poor puntingness go undetected....
Ashburton yesterday , somewhere up North today .....same old same old ....dollars down the drain....
But  gloriousness is surely just around the corner...
Following some restauranteurs' thoroughbred , backing all South Island runners and jockeys tomorrow , the Warriors  on a winning streak...all signs point to the year of the dog being the turn around year for the Cubinator...

The fact that Murray Baker took him to Aussie in the Spring is quite a good clue as to the respect he has for his ability.  Maybe he strengthened up a lot over his early summer break.
And if he is off to the Sydney Derby one would expect him to be competitive given the judgment  usually shown by M Baker.  He is no mug

I didn't think ENDOWMENT'S run all that shabby either. Drew 19,  3 and 4 wide whole way, blistering speed at 600 to lead til the 100, 1/2 head from 3rd.
Better draw the placings would have been different.
I wouldn't be biased though being breeder and owner, and I'm very proud of his great run.
Pundits agreed though, the run was massive. Never mentioned him before the race (except Stu Laing). Suppose we're pretty lowly in the scheme of who they talk about prior.
2nd G2 to Demonitization. Just waiting for a good track. And pulled up in splendid condition. Watch this space.

yeah I know one of the owners - met him at ChCh airport last week before he flew up North. and swapped messages after Saturday's win.
He is gutted that the horse has won $180k, won a G2 & G3 and live chance going into the Oaks

I've always been amazed how the NZRB and NZTR have made such odd decisions in regards to personnel. You could swear that they've been hired to ruin racing, so pitiful the decisions that have been made these past 15 plus years. The spin lacks any evidence that things are about to improve, in fact it looks completely rudderless and looks headed for further demise.
The latest Deloitte's report  is another desperate attempt to find answers. WTF do they(Deloitte) know about betting and betting platforms - how much was wasted on this?
Why wouldn't you employ someone that knows a thing or three.
I know a slight/maybe big stretch but take Bet 365 for example - Denise Coates.
Coates started out as cashier, marking up results in a small number of betting shops owned by her father, Peter, as a sideline to his main business of football stadium catering.
After graduating with a first in econometrics – the application of statistical methods to economic data – from Sheffield University, she expanded the family’s Provincial Racing betting chain to nearly 50 shops. Now CEO of Bet365 her salary last year was 199 million pounds.
The point I'm really trying making is wouldn't you hire for the position required.
We have experts at ledgers, sending post and chucking heavy objects - whoever hired them the problem.
Why (20 years ago and still to this date) wouldn't you hire an expert in betting/bookmaking/betting platforms???

TOM(the other Molloy) got a reaction from dock leaf in NZTR, Deloitte Report
You would want to ask the question of the credentials of Deloittes to be undertaking an enquiry or consultancy anyway.  Insofar as I know Deloittes are hardly a major benefactor of NZ Racing.  Preparing a report into the future of NZ Racing(and I haven't bothered reading it as it will no doubt be more of the same tripe we have been served time and time again) would surely require some in depth knowledge of the industry not just a poncy letterhead?
The West Coast has had multiple 'Economic Development Studies' done in my time invariably by 'Deloittes' types - I reckon the only thing that has changed is that originally the consultant rode up on a pushbike and now he rolls up in Mercedes Benz

You cannot possibly beat logic Cubes.  I have a mate who reckons an old Scotchman told him to back any horse that has 2 and 4 in it's last two starts and he also regularly takes 2 and 4 in quinellas($20 or $50 jobs not $1 quinellas).  He picks up a bloody lot of them I tell ya.  Right until I get in on the act then the theory goes sour.
