Yes JJ Flash you cant run these services without the income but how do you get it? Unlike many of you people I dont have the answer but as sure as damn I cant see that elimination of the information from the GP is a step in the right direction. Yes, there is a very good website containing a myriad of information, sadly this avenue of information does not improve the exposure of the business. Like, I dont follow hockey for example, and nothing the hockey buffs put in their website will change this situation, simply because I never visit (surf?) their site. And of course those who dont wager do not visit the wagering sites, even this site. They also dont (or didnt) buy Best Bets so that leaves the printed press or the radio/tv outlets as the only real avenues. But these organisations have given racing the bugger off ticket so it appears to be a brick wall situation. Perhaps the start to reversing the trend lies with the clubs themselves. Advertising their meetings in shop windows, livery on their vehicles, and utilisation of the free letterbox weeklies we all get in our letterboxes. Of course none of these are the answer and would probably have minimal impact in the big centres where racing is on every week but with help from the programming committees some areas could benefit. You do have to feel sorry for Palmie who have to try and run a break evens meeting which was given to them to be run on a Tuesday and in daytime when majority of population working. Let's all work from home and use the net which enables us to be more flexible as to when we can take time off, but unfortunately as my barber said to me, you cant cut hair online!

If your asking who started at Rangiora it was P Lamb
I'm picking his departure from NZMTC might come back to haunt them if he wants to take them to task

eljay got a reaction from meomy in Trading Banks Closures
ASB announced a wholesale closure of branches a short while back and now BNZ will break their promise of no closures till 2022 by progressively closing branches many almost immediately. And with the huge savings they intend to acxhieve, will they pass this back to the customer???? Many communities will be left with no facilities at all as the other banks already do not service those communities. And this hot on the heels of Taxcinda trumpeting they will create more jobs. The only thing "more" will be the unemployment queues!

No disagreement from me. I suppose thy will grind it out until everyone has forgotten what it's all about. But those directly involved will not forget and there could then be a lengthy round of compensation claims. And really this should have been put to bed ages ago - albeit with some lawyers just a tad poorer!

Perhaps horse betting decline is directly related to reduction of exposure - No free TV, No Radio, Damn near no newspaper coverage, No Best Bets type publications, etc. etc. etc. You can't make an omelette without eggs!

eljay got a reaction from ivanthegreat in Are we all ready for the next P Lamb shambles
We obviously have pro and anti All Stars. The real point of the debate is that some horses got favours at the start and others were badly hindered due to a very poor exhibition by the starter, who unfortunately has a history of poor technique especially in major races. Next time it could be All Stars horses given a disservice but this not the point. HRNZ must see this and by not reacting shows incompetence on their part. An enquiry into both the starting of the race and also into why the race officials did not open an investigation with the JCA into the possibility of declaring non runner(s) must surely be undertaken

Ydgren confirmed there was no set rule governing standing starts.
There shouldn't need to be - walk up, stand, go.
I believe Lamb has conducted meetings (seminars) with the other starters in NZ on such matters as standing starts and getting consistency over the whole country. Obviously a waste of money. Many years ago there was a starter at Auckland - John Gavin - who I am sure would never have been dictated to by the drivers. I am sure John was respected by all who came under his influence.

Back up again Iraklis but the chainsaw has obviously been used on the start

eljay got a reaction from Iraklis in Shambolic cup start: Where the starter was positioned
I think Copy That was a little fractious when they started to come up for the re-start and did back away a little too. Looking at the position of the hind legs in that particular photo it appears that the horse was stationary but unfortunately one foreleg only visible due to the light standard. However looking at the two outside horses they are obviously into full flight and getting a distinct advantage over the inside horses ( not only just Copy That). As the race attracted nomination fees and as there was a considerable stake on offer regardless of whose horses were advantaged and disadvantaged the starter should have once again aborted the start and any blame attributable to a horse or driver dealt with after the race.

Yes, the starter is employed by the clubs (well I think he still is) but he has to be licensed. Licences are issued by HRNZ (not the clubs) so they have their "say" who the clubs can employ.

Surely they will replace the starter for Show Day. Addington cannot afford further bad publicity with their biggest Trotting Race the Dominion to be run.
