eljay got a reaction from JJ Flash in Gary Woodham Departs
Resign seems to be the wrong word. I would have said "stands down due to health issues" would be more to the point. Resigns says to me got a better offer/job or had a row.

The only difference with ATC is they don't even need to move to decline.

And the most worrying loss is the younger generation. They dont sit at home watching tv racing as they never experienced the atmosphere you talk about and unless they have a direct connection to the industry most of the "modern generation" have been lost and hence the future clients, whether they be owners or just punters., Technology may be a wonderful thing but in some areas, and racing is one, it has caused an adverse effect.

The good old division races. They used to run a race in 2 or even 3 divisions.at Hawera at Easter. Tote numbers used to go up to 24 I think but I cant recall how many they started in each division but after all numbers up to 24 were allocated they added an "A" and if necessary a "B" The divisions were all under the same pool and a win dividend was declared for each division and I think 2 place divvies. All divisions were warmed up together and quite often a driver would drive in each division. These guys were returned to the starting area on the back of a truck or some similar vehicle. While the first division was run the horses for the next division were held in a chute near the starting area. As far as the tote was concerned there were no "A"'s or "B"'s so you could get a horse with the same numerical number running a place in each division whereby the dividend for that number was doubled. Sounds complicated but really it wasn't. And no computers in those days.

Probably hard for drivers when told by trainer "get the lead" and if 3 were told this 2 would fail and probably get a bollocking when they returned for not doing so 😭

All the money comes to rest in the same few pockets - as usual. Will this really give the industry a boost.
