  1. And don't forget race is over 2506 metres and not a mile.

A couple of fillies I had got stable names Cindy and Mindy - coz that was the day they were born on. (That is a fact)
  3. Ohokaman and G Unit. I backed him too. I have to agree with the comments both of you make. As you say a winning punter is a happy punter. As to Frank's drive - well I prefer to leave my comments where I made them during (and after) the race, on the first floor of the public stand.

  8. Just like the thoroughbred trainers who just "give their horse a run" over a shorter distance just to sharpen them for a "better race" 1 or 2 weeks away. Funny how the stipes never charge them for not trying??
  9. Sorry typo - should read Auckland R.9 - 6 R.10 - 4 R.11 - 9 R.12 - 2 Perth R.2 - 3 R.4 - 8 R.6 - 7 R.8 - 4

    RIP Jim Smith

Colours as you say - just the red braces. Can't quite dredge up George's colours but were different from Jim's. George still has a stablehands licence but does not train any horses these days - he is the father of Stipe, Scott Wallis, who himself was a junior driver late 90's/early 2000's and drove 65 winners.

Yes Alf - in fact Robyn Evander won a Rowe Cup (1975) a race he also won in 1967 with Mountain Pride and Jim drove both of them. I believe Jim also won a Wellington Pacing Cup but name of horse escapes me. Grateful if anyone can help.

Belinda, if my memory serves me correct, probably his best squaregaiter would have been Mountain Gold which won 20 races. In it's latter years racing it was trained both by Barry and Mark Purdon.
  14. They will probably run first race and then downgrade the track - so best not punt on the first till you get reasonably accurate assessment. Would probably take a deluge to change their assessment within two hours of the first.
  15. Website says Dead6 Showery which I see no reason to query. But we will see.
  16. Well known and respected Northern trainer Jim Smith passed away this morning. RIP Jim

  21. Would restricting on course availability to a minority of prospective fans be a good business solution. I think not. Within 3 years the whole racing industry would have gone bust, TAB's closed down by the thousands, and nobody giving 2 sh..'s about racing. Of course it would suit lotto and the likes! All very well having a couple of bob in the pocket, but turnover is where (as always) the future lies. Incidentally leedsip - where are you domiciled?
  22. Go get a handout to buy a light bulb!
