Nah flabber, It was an incredibly stupid thing to do in the first place and quickly retracting it when the users rightly kicked up a bit of a fuss just shows how inept the whole exercise was and absolutely no credit should be due.
One lunatic even posted that we must have voted for it. No one even heard about it till after their brainstorm.
People here are a few facts. One, we owners and trainers are the industry. For all their high falluting plans, thoughts and ideas the board cannot exist without us.
Two, we have had many rights removed from our grasp. The fact that all these changes can be made on a whim without input from the members shows how much we have relinquished.
Three, We have the power. All we have to do is stand up for our rights. . The Auckland debacle is a good example. No one seemed to be in any position to decide if the reason was an act of God or not, the members certainly were sure, the RIU seemed to agree with them but the people who were responsible for the issue were able to decide otherwise. The correct action would have been for every member to not nominate for the next meeting at Auckland. Just as it is correct to stand up and be counted when foolhardy rules that penalise the members are passed.
Four, None of this will happen and so things will just puddle along as they are. A new CEO so a new start....... past behaviour is the biggest predictor of future behaviour. The new CEO has been part of the present situation we find ourselves in so why should we expect anything different.
Cheers Mike Martin
Gezz mike..were did some iunitic say we voted for it??...i said we voted the board in...but thanks for your comment.

Apparently the rule was made by a certain person in the office and took it upon themselves to sanction it. The board hadn’t seen it so hadn’t ratified it. So it had been a case of the tail wagging the dog and the dog finally showed strength and bit the tail.
..i think you will find it was a board decision and was reversed by the same board....but lets not let the truth get in the way of a good story....

No payout, only an email to inform us the problem is now solved. Fat lot of good that does us.
Dont know were you have heard that...i have been told it is greyhound nz hands and they are waiting for a report from the club...at this stage the riu has recommended it was not a act of god and therefore unless the club or should i say robert come through with a compelling reason that it was a act of god there is a good chance compensation will be payed.....simple decision is there is no decision at this stage......so lets wait

Common grnz...stop being dictated to...these new rules will end up having more dogs euthanized...some of us spend dollars to save a dog after injury and now they arnt suitable for gap.......i thought you are suppose to be saving dogs ???

And you arent concerned about the money we are owed and long overdue,to be paid.as i recall, due to the """virus that struck the Horses,Do you see any of the Gallop'people pushing for us to get that money,No do any off them care No,
I think you have to blame our own board for not spelling out the terms proberly ...and thats in the past and if again our board had some b.lls we would have sorted it....my point still stands on the present any loss of any race meeting effects us all in the pockets...so i have no problem seeing a all weather horse track as i enjoy watching quality horses racing....

I see what your saying and agree but I don’t agree with that fact they have to pay, and by this the point I’m making we should want people taking greyhounds over any other breed we must make it attractive. If people are vetted and put on a list greyhounds will be easy to track , offer the support etc and it may work . Atm the owner and the new owner pay plus the grnz put up funds and we are still getting nowhere, I’m big in the boarding kennel idea just wish they would try it they don’t have to go all our just put a couple here and there .the problem is too many are taking from the top with tunnel vision .
Great idea...were did the $2500 come from to rehome a dog...gezz im in the wrong buisness ...lol

Matter of opinion. Such a shame you can never post anything without being criticised.
Sorry wasnt criticising...was just making a point about why stopping imports would be wrong....you should be proud of your breeding they have gone super....but my point is still if we never had imports 90pc of dogs wouldnt have been here.....

Would you travel 6 or 7 hours to a track. Then come last without a chance of money when you come 7th or 8th. Looks like the big kennels and the ones with the finances will control the industry. The likes of us will just fizzle out. And in saying that we've been successful with our own breed from the one brood bitch. And she was NZ bred. We've just had another littler from her daughter that never raced. That's our last shot at it.
Henny..sorry but if you go back and if monas idle wasnt imported to nz you would not have your brood bitch....this is my point we do not have true nz bred dogs without imports....and the you have to look were most of the sires come from....either irish or australian...if a newzealander has australian or irish or Scottish blood in them they are intitled to play for that country...so when do you start saying dogs are nz breed.....without imports we would not have greyhounds in nz..

Steve, The imports are imported racing dogs so of course there are going to be more NZ pups not making the cut than imports even though to clarify that a bit, a great deal of the imports are here because they didn't chase or were not up to scratch over the ditch. I am sure everyone can name imports that have been tried in Aust. coming here and proving to be absolute failures. If you want to compare apples with apples then compare Aust bred pups failure rate overall because all the noise coming from over there is that without the live and dead bating and other incentives they are having non chase epidemics. The average Aust racing dog has far less starts ( I think it is in the 40 or 50's) than most other countries . Our GAP certainly would have a far easier time if we had a similar dumping ground.
If there is a lack of breakers in NZ it is because there is a lack of need for them . The chicken or the egg scenario.
You gave the breeding thing a fair shake albeit with Aust. help, but I notice you seem to be resorting to imports once again. Is that because it is too hard or you have to import to keep up with the rest.
It actually amazes me that breeders that have cracked it and managed to breed top line pups in NZ still feel the need to import.
Incorrect mike..im giving up breeding simply for financial reasons...60k a litter if you keep them and to be honest its like lotto if you are a small breeder...we have had great sucsess with our home breeds ..but lets not forget they were out off australian import bitches who if they never came we would not have them...same as 80pc of other so called nz breed..how many of coles and other breeders bitches came from australia....and no i am not importing any more than i have always and now wont front any costs brigning them in.....the funny thing is over the last 5 years with the so called imports i have bought in ..3 have gone to gap but 15 nz breds have gone from my kennels to gap ...the other aussie imports are still here...
-
Im a bit lost at the single mindeness...i think you will find it is failed nz bred pups filling gap more than imports...our lack of breaking in facilities is causing this....as ive said and will say it again why dosnt grnz set up on the back of the levin kennels a designated break in track.with a emploed trainer who could train up and coming trainers on site...be a intresting breakdown to find out how many nz bred pups turn up at gap not chasing or poorly broken in compared to aussie imports...

Gary my latest remark was a sarcastic one
There are many, many ways of training dogs. You learn as you go. A lot of books are about but you will not beat experience.
Train your dog to suit both the dog and your own situation. Surely someone up your way can give you advice.
Best Wishes Ray A
Sorry ray..i didnt mean to quote you in my last thread...but agree 100pc....every dog is different

You know..what is happening is quite simple..we have a board of administrators that know nothing about greyhound racing and managment..we blame the guys in the office...but who controls them...the board because thats who we elect....now look at the board ..we have no strong element on it ..our elected member is now in a cosy postion after doing nothing ..we as lps have no say anymore....im sure jean would agree shaking rocks in a bottle will help dogs to chase....i can tell you every one off my racing dogs would s..t themseves....so maybe it is time to stop hearing from the ceo of grnz and get a explanation from the board we elected.....stop passing the buck...

I guess one thing in our favour is the riu cant enforce anything bar the dress code when it suits and picking dogs up for vet checks...so just carry on as normal because in my opinion they dont care as long as they get there wages and they really dont like things that cause a problem....simply because they dont understand our rules...thats why under the jca they get beaten 80pc of the time......

New Rule and Policy
Please view the following new rule and policy, also to be published in February On Track magazine.A copy of the new Rule book can now be viewed on our website under Rules and Policies.
There has been a number of calls asking what is and isnt allowable in terms of the Rule and policy?
- The only allowable material is TANNED SHEEPSKIN.
- Squeakers are NOT allowed (you must use something like a bottle with stones in it, a rattle, or some other means of audible device that does not mimic an animal
- If you are given old club lure skins, this is allowable
- Can I make synthetic lures, YES
- What if I buy a synthetic toy and it has a squeaker in it - Either puncher it so it doesn't make a noise, or remove it
- Can i use a tanned possum skin - NO
- Common sense will tell you, if you are nervous about the type of product your using - Keep the receipt
Again - Approved means - A Lure that: (a) is made up of professionally tanned sheepskin; or (b) is made up of purely synthetic materials; or (c) is made up of a combination of (a) and (b). NO SQUEAKERS
What a joke....my daughter is outside with her pet dog playing with my sqeaker lure.....thanks brendon

I am surprised there has been so little comment on here about Liz farewelling us, as she has been the most pro greyhound racing presenter we have seen in years.
obviously intelligent , easy to communicate with, able to see all sides in an issue and a very presentable presenter, liz appeared out of nowhere and quickly developed a passion and subsequent great knowledge of the Greyhound industry. I think Liz's presence over the last few years has had a very positive affect and we should all thank her and wish her well in her future pursuits. Even if she did get a bit emotive about things from time to time.
All the very best Liz
Mike and Linda
Agree mike..liz and her family owned triple parked with us and you could not want for better owners...mind you if she interviewed before a group race..she put the mockers on my dogs...lol...lizs paasion in home interviews was second to none and she always put the dogs and you first.....all the best liz...which you dont need really as you will be a hit with greyhounds were ever you go.....there is a ceo job at grnz you know??...cheers steve and stacey

I heard a rumour that a top NZ Sire Piggy Back is going into GAP shortly which is a lost to the industry.
Maybe Hound Fan can give us some information on this, and there might be some cheap straws available
before he loses his marbles. Have a happy retirement Piggy you deserve it.
Sorry joe...never saw your post.....piggy back did go to gap but failed due to his hatred of going into kennels...he is back home in his paddock here again getting up blitzem mayhem and back to his normal self....and still carrying his full set of nuts...

That is a question you need to put to GAP.
On the form you sign at gap you have the right to take the dog back if it fails gap...i did this with piggy back as he was so used to his life here he didnt like the change to a smaller kennel he prefered the paddock he was in and is back in here.....but yes there is no refund off money and to be fair $60 is cheap to keep him for 2 weeks...
