WOODBINE got a reaction from meomy in Jacinda Ardern
National has a very capable young female cabinet minister called Nicki Kay who is as good as if not a better Poli as Jacinda.
Perhaps the Old Boys club in National should promote Nicki to a leadership position

WOODBINE got a reaction from Dopey in Elite Gavelhouse Weanling Sale
I was pleased that NZB decided to offer such a sale but I was very interested in the terms and conditions of this sale and I must say they will be costing vendors particularly with the increased Gavelhouse commission rate from 5 percent to 8.5 percent.
An online sale is just that an online sale and the Gavelhouse Plus upgrade does not add outstanding value to any vendor at present
My suggestion is that this Gavelhouse Plus sale should not be compared to the existing May sale as they are very different. Eg no offering fee on passed in lots has ever been a condition of previous May sales so even to raise it is misleading
Accordingly the sale should be offered on the normal terms and conditions of a normal Gavelhouse fortnightly sale such as entry fee $500 plus GST, and sales commission of 5% The requirement for X-rays is in order but any comments about an extended buying bench works in NZB’s favour Because as the selling agent they should be maximising the number of potential buyers. Finally there is no need for a major printing run for a May catalogue with a major cost saving to NZB.
    Any comments.?

John Key did not come from a privileged background (please read his bio) and he had to work very hard for his subsequent success.
John’s background is typical of many successful NZers they come from humble backgrounds and don’t have chips on their shoulders. I first came across John when he worked for the accounting firm Touché Ross in Christchurch shortly after graduation
i was a partner in Touche Ross and he attended a TR Conference for new graduates that I was a presenter at. He impressed me as a quality young professional who would be an exceptional achiever in whatever profession is choose to be in.
I also remember being at a Governance Institute of Australia annual dinner several years ago ( I represented Governance NZ) the guest speaker Peter Fitzsimmons was publicly championing John Key as the Australian Prime Minster to a dinner table of quality Australians. I was very proud to be a NZ er that night.
At a community function where John was guest speaker shortly before National came to power I was asked to give the vote of thanks to John I said to him “I want to thank you for coming home to NZ to make a difference....” He spoke to me later saying that he had never received such words and I stand by them today.
John and Jacinda are both outstanding NZers and leaders who have been noted offshore for their qualities and activism. In respect of our racing industry problems I believe that NZRB and the codes have needed leaders with a bullying / critical style to get things done. Peter V’landys of Racing NSW appears to have such a style and in NZ Michael Stiassny would have been a very effective CEO of NZRB rather than its Chairman

We all tend to forget that John Key did not take a salary during his time as Prime Minister
This was a large sacrifice also practiced by Donald J Trump.

Opie Bosson has been our best rider for some years. In my opinion he is followed by Jason Waddell. Jason is a big race rider and he would also be a top performer in Australia if he decides to head that way.
Good luck to both of them

WOODBINE got a reaction from Patiti in Trackside radio should consider a play for Radio Sport
I grew up listening to Radio Sport and its link to cricket and rugby in particular. Before Trackside Radio started the TAB took a shareholding interest in Radio Hauraki in order to ensure the continued radio coverage of races.
Why not think outside the square RITA and look at a play for Radio Sport?

WOODBINE got a reaction from Dopey in The importation of shuttle stallions for 2020 breeding season?
    Message:Message:
Looking ahead there may be major problems with the importation of shuttle stallions into Australia and New Zealand for the 2020 breeding season.
The COVID-19 virus will be with us for a significant period of time so I believe it would be an appropriate opportunity to consider alternative stallion servicing such as AI. AI is used successfully for both the standardbred and sports horse industries.
Many equine vets are familiar with AI servicing and it’s protocals and it would enable the Thoroughbred breeding industry to continue without major disruption

Whipping behind the saddle should be banned now. The winning jockeys who copped $1000 fines should also be stood down for say a minimum 2 week period. The severe whipping of horses is a blight on the industry and is tantamount to the canning of students at schools years ago.

Showcasing has three 2 year old fillies in the Karaka Million 2 year race out of 13 starters.
Play that Song deserves to be race favourite but Taroni is my predicted winner. I understand that she is flying in training gallops
This stallion has never hit the high times at the yearling sales. Perhaps after Saturday’s race buyers will look at the Showcasing yearlings with greater interest. He certainly deserves better recognition

    One for the statistics
Kolding’s win in the Golden Eagle race won his connections a $4 million stake.
This is the highest stake ever won in one race by a NZ bred racehorse
Lets give this achievement some publicity

In three days the Melbourne Cup will be run.
The Melbourne Cup is probably the only race that businesses run a sweepstake on a horse race.
For some years I have been an advocate for the TAB to develop a gaming product with Lotto to run on the Melbourne Cup. This would bring racing into the Lotto community and also give the  sweepstakers an opportunity to win a major prize.
I have raised this suggestion at several John Allen sessions only for it to be brushed off with the line we will consider it.
NZ Racing is devoid of any growth ideas and strategies and it now may be too late to turn it around.
Sadly we are now a sunset industry.
