I see this dog was a Nonnie/Cheat on Sunday too, no mention in stipe report though. I suppose it might've done it discreetly enough to get away with it...but those of us that know what we're looking for....

But is it a positive for the sport? With racing in general on the decline in NZ what benefit did that effort provide? The hardcores will punt on anything variety not required, but there isn't enough of them to sustain racing. Just imagine the same happening in thoroughbreds? What makes racing appealing to the everyday punter is variety. The danger here is drop out. As trainer numbers decline the risk of racing cessation increases. One thing learned in my life time is this, when you're gone, few remember your name.

I have a friend who raced a lot of horses and he had a contract that the trainers had to sign to get the horse.
I have a few in training, the charges vary significantly, daily rates versus daily rates vary enormously. Often by location. Use of vets vary significantly as well. But all can be judged on performance verses cost. But paramount to me is honesty, if it is a slow horse, move on. No trainer can inject a motor, just expertise.
Taken decades to get to this point.
    Best of luck to all

No to all questions would be my answer. Holdens a lightweight . Just look at his Greyhound tenure.
The only potential saviour for harness is the arrival of  independent board members. Way overdue but can they attract quality directors

Saddened to hear of Mike's passing, had spoken a few times and i loved following the martin dogs.Mike and Linda always had a good dog born and bred at home of course too.
He was a fan of mine which was a priviledge as clearly he knew what it took to be a good greyhound caller.
Taken far too soon and he will be sadly missed.Deepest sympathy to Linda,Brian and the whole martin family on your loss.
NZ greyhound racing is all the poorer without him.

Excellent, chiknsmack, to see you are finding the Formguides so very useful, which they are. But do not dismiss so summarily the Comments Lines  which are not produced by "some random stranger". Those comments are there to help people looking for information about a greyhound race field. The more experienced punter, like yourself, may not need such information as "Wide runner not suited to box 1" because you already know that. For so many others, though, that is an informed comment on which the reader can then make her/his own judgement.

    The inmates have taken over.
    Things are back on track.
I know this cos already tis morning I have received 2 x emails telling me  info...one from Addington/Dunstan feeds and one from HRNZ/Alex Park.
I also know Pukekohe trials about to start ,Addington have just had 2 x stellar days of trials, and Invercargill has some booming fields carded as well.
And the on-line All aged Auction has began ,plenty horses up for grabs.
Looks like its all go in NZ Harness....bubbles are about to burst !
I just hope the inmates are prepared ....green and growing !
Hopefully the 'new plan ' will be released and unleashed........stack em high and watch em fly !

I would love to hear Roso answering a young person interested in getting into the sport. It would sort of go like this, it is easy peasy stuff junior get some dogs then some big monied friends and just buy up all the local then as many imported bitches from proven families. After that it's just a matter of numbers, keep breeding and only keep the best of each litter, I'll tell you  about the others later. just keep going and keep spending and eventually you can force all the mugs out and hello you have no opposition. Only one thing though junior, CHCH and CD are already covered so best you go for the Northern area

Barry Lichter's summation of the situation is - sadly - very much "on the money".
One point I would like to make, though, is that he makes no reference to the Directors of the TAB Board leading into the Racing Act of 2003. Prior to the Act there were two organisations responsible for the administration and ultimate success of Racing NZ. The Racing Industry Board and the TAB were separate units although the Chairman and one person were on both Boards.
It would be difficult to find a more responsive and responsible group than those who comprised the TAB. Yes, you may consider I am biased but this was a genuine RACING group of people interested in RACING. Owners/Breeders/Punters, the General Public were all very well represented. This group oversaw a steady rise in the wagering on racing, including the first billion-dollar turnover. This was a time when NZ still reigned supreme in Australasia. The era of Ethereal and Sunline.
I was personally appalled that not one of those people was on the new Racing Board. The expertise, the knowledge, the PASSION of those people were totally ignored, along with the loss of so much intellectual capital.
Shame on whoever made those decisions, those appointments, which have rebounded so badly on the industry ever since.
As an example, the issue of Free-To-Air Trackside would be raised each year and each year summarily consigned to the this-will-not-change in our time basket.
There were a number of things which that group implemented  including percentage betting and incentives for those running the TAB agencies up and down the country.
As I look back on that time, I find it almost incomprehensible that Racing finds itself in such a parlous position today.

A time to weep. A time to mourn.

It is correct that we are  breding from dogs with genetic issues.
Brett Lee is a good example, with one testicle. Brett has left a legacy in the greyhound world by leaving the very best of dogs world wide, yet with that legacy went another and a negative genetic issue went worldwide as well.
If you were the manager of the National stud and had all the information on Brett Lee's huge results of his offspring on the track would you have allowed him to be used.
I believe the answer that should be no but it would take a brave woman to say no.

Pete is as knowledgeable as anyone in the industry Jo and if you follow his picks he is seldom far from the money. Saying a dog can't win and that dog does win goes with the territory. I think he was a good choice for the position and should be reinstated immediately

If this is the best Dean McKenzie can come up with then he clearly is the wrong man for the job.
The Trackside coalface people at Radio and TV are knowledgeable with a genuine passion for the industry doing their best to promote and attract people to racing and create turnover. Barry Lichter makes mention of Mark Claydon losing his job. There would be very few with more knowledge and passion for than industry than Mark. It is people such as Mark that are asset to racing yet now surplus to requirements according to Rita.
The elephant in the room is the wasteful extravagance and f*#kups at the top over the last decade from those on huge salaries and with very little knowledge of racing and wagering. Multi millions of racing funds sent down the toilet on the Typhoon Betting System that never got off the ground including the other useless overpriced betting system put in place under John Allen which continues at an annual cost of $17 million per year are just a couple of examples of very poor management decisions. There are plenty of others.
These are the people that are causing good people on the front line to lose their jobs at Trackside. People without any knowledge and departing leaving a ton of horse manure behind, they should be hanging their heads in shame. They won't be though as they will be at another trough without a single thought of their previous incompetent actions.
If you want to prune Dean, start with the rotten fruit close in instead of stretching the shears at arms length and leaning out to lop the best fruit at the edges of the tree.

That was on point, why indeed? One thing is certain if he is found guilty they will all look green around the gills! Reading an article from RITA, a few of them may already be searching for a new job. RITA is about to shed some 230 surplus to requirements.

There is rightfully a lot of concern amongst members about the domination of  mega kennels in the percentage of dogs racing at certain meetings . I think I read somewhere the Cole empire have something like 45% of the dogs in the first days racing for example.
Well why don't we have a Cole day only at CD on one day and one for the rest on the other day.
This should work bigtime, the empire could finally achieve their goal of winning every race on the card and the rest can battle it out on the other day.  Sure to be a bigger spread of the prizemoney.
Opawa have muddied the water a bit by naming a lot of their recent dogs without the Opawa prefix so it is a lot harder to trace  but maybe one of the Canterbury days could dedicate half the meeting to Wales empire dogs only. John Mac will have settle for one of the Southland days

I have heard that many stories about what Is happening, what is about to happen and what should happen that my head is spinning. FFS wouldn't you think there would be a clear directive put out to all participants during these uncertain times. I heard the other day that they were set to start racing again within a week but to keep it quiet. KEEP IT QUIET!!!!   if in fact it is correct it should be shouted from the rooftops.
Kizanan, no, people should not have ring the clubs or grnz they should be kept up to date to the minute, they are the people that need to be first to know as they are the ones that are going to supply the product, and for  your information my wife who is the secretary of a club and has been fielding questions as above, rang the association and the the only person she could contact told her he had just become unemployed and suggested she contact Glenda Hughes FFS, so a lot of good a phonecall there, is going to do
Really this fiasco just reinforces the hopelessness members feel about the whole organisation
