So Ellerslie is going ahead with a 1/2 arsed drainage job instead of installing a Strathayr track like Moonee Valley?
Surely they should be told to wait for the Messara report before doing anything? Whatever they do now is likely to be a waste of time and money.
The hardest thing for the industry to swallow will be if he recommends significant racetrack centralisation. If he does do that then it’s essential for Ellerslie to be Strathayr or similar.

11 SW’s from 256 foals bred in NZ so far (this years 2YO’s excluded), best are 2 G2 winners of a fairly ave 2YO race. Only 1 G1 performer in NZ / Aus.
Is he really much of a loss on that basis. Yearlings I have looked at have been ave at best.

I would say those breeders that utilised Tavistock and sold them at the sales this year would have licked their lips and all done well, incredible results off that service fee.
They were conceived off a $15,000 service fee!

You don't know what you're talking about. Not many stallions have got his sort of stats. Best crops yet to come. Fillies nearly as good as colts but weirdly they take more time than the colts.  Normally the other way around

I must be missing something but I fail to see the point of these comments which can only be described as moronic. Why would you choose to criticise a breeder for sending a superbly bred mare to a horse recognised as one of the best to have ever raced.
Why do so many “small breeders” fail to recognise that to be a “commercial breeder” you must breed winners or you won’t be “commercial” for long!!
    Pathetic jealousy at its worst.

fitzy reacted to Breeder in Karaka Sale Complex
They said at the start of the sales tonight that it is 30 years since the first sale at Karaka. Amazing.
I think the fact that it still looks quite new and certainly has not dated in architectural terms, shows how good the architects were and how good a job Micheal Floyd ( Wrightsons bloodstock boss at the time) and his team did with the organisation of getting the complex built. Also NZB have obviously done a great job with it's up keep.
It was a rather controversial move, at the time, to go from Trentham to Karaka but no would argue now that it was timely and the right thing to do.

Get real you NEGAHOLICS......it was an excellent days racing.
The track and facilities looked in magnificent order......Aussie trainers and riders adding to the occasion.
All the visitors had to be impressed.
Great racing ,Scott Base was brilliant.
Winnie gave a good speech as did David Ellis....several big syndicates won races.
Eye Candy in droves ,good service ,much excitement ,warm weather ,hot chips.
    Bloody brilliant !

Where have you been? Under a blanket? How much marketing does a real race goer need to be aware of a major race? You're obviously not a regular Portfolio or you've been asleep.

    FYI.....my experience with our mare.
She had her first 4 foals to Rich Hill Stallions ,one died as a 2 yr old the other 3 were winners, then remained bare for maybe 2 years and last 3 servings have been non -Rich Hill stallions. One 2yr old ,a foal and a positive.
Rich Hill have agisted her the entire time ,attended well to her needs ,sent reports and photos and my overall satisfaction with RH is very good.
As in any business ,I think customer satisfaction should be reported and the reader needs to filter the information and use it and other info to make their.decision !

Give those presenters a break you lot.  Jayne Ivil copped a ton of flack here yet is now an star in Victoria and as for critizing their selections well I consider those people to be no more knowledgeable than I am myself so never listen(not hat I claim to be any sort of judge just a mug like everyone else).  Dufficy doesn't tip the card every week as far as I know even though he is entertaining.  As for the Fahey girl's clothing down south well it looked perfectly acceptable to me.  Anyone with wives and daughters who like dress shops would be totally accustomed to that type of gear.
NZ racing has a bloody sight bigger problem than who the Trackside presenters are and what they say.  Liz Whelan is a loss however

Insider it’s nowhere near as simple as that. There is only a very small window of time to get the Aus trainers here for Karaka, moving a week either way could be a disaster. As it is it’s almost impossible to get all the main players here, trainers or owners. Karaka is only the 3rd ranked sale now and is in danger of slipping behind Melbourne which would be fatal to the breeding industry.

Was just reading this post when i realised race was about to start.
Berri in reality this race often lacks depth with generally only 3 or 4 genuine class fillies. On that score this no worse than many other editions.
Dijon Bleu clearly the benchmark filly thus far, Hasaholo a very good 2YO last year. Prom Queen has great winning record but hard to guage the class of fields she has beaten. Most of the rest of the field have shown enough to be a chance for a place.
The true depth of the field wont be known for another 6 months i would think.

Latest reports are that Mahers brother and foreman have been declined approval to take over the stable despite both holding licences.
According to stipes (T Bailey) neither is well enough qualified ?????
How on earth did D Beadman get a licence to take over from O'Shea?

I note that useful CD ( only ) G1 horse Kawi gets a mention, he's certain to attract no one to the course although they've already declared that he'll be wearing the rather dodgy daffodil colours, and that's appropriate for the imposter.
As for the smoking, well I'm not one so it doesn't bother me other than to say that banning alcohol ( which arguably is far more dangerous ) seems a mere short step away......I'm not going to mention banning that other fun activity sex, other than to say if they did ban that at least NZTR would have to stop fucking racing.

I have met a lot of pedigree buffs in my time. Some I respect because they talk some sense in their approach but unfortunately there is nothing to suggest that even with their purported knowledge that they can out perform anyone else with simple breeding, conformation and racing knowledge. There is absolutely nothing in the above pedigrees that suggests any form of pattern or process that any rational minded person could make any recommendation on in relation to breeding.
If you could post all the BEST Sir Tristram progeny and show a proper pattern, then you might get me but I know you can't. Same argument that I was having with Swynford. He didn't get me over the line on any matter because the proposals were flawed and the results from his breeding program suggestions hadn't out performed the norm in any material way.
I talked with a bloke called John Aiscan many years ago. He was a serious breeding buff and helped Bunker Hunt. I think from memory he was Tesio's protégé. Now he did most of his breedings based on temperament first, followed by conformation, then race record. He knew of patterns that didn't work and those were his rejections but he said that most of the patterns that didn't work were influenced by temperament. All of you guys that quote crosses or duplications.....I'll bet that most of you don't know those stallions race records or temperaments. So how can you say they work? You're playing a flawed statistical plan that has very little basis because you cant show the statistical probability of anything you are saying.
Now that's a strange approach in normal business

Nasrullah what facts do you have to support this statement. I'm fairly sure that the results show NZ breds have won around 50% of G1 Aus Derbies and Oaks over the past 5-6 years. This current season has been close to a clean sweep for the Kiwis (G1 Derbies/Oaks).
Surely a horse such as Ocean Park at stud refutes your claims? As Berri has stated too many breeders confuse speed and stamina. Stayers must have speed as well.
The key factor may well be maturity. Few can afford to wait till a horse is 4 before it races seriously. Personally I think many confuse precocity and speed, but they are very different.
i.e. Black Caviar and Chautauqua etc.
