  1. I know one too...a s(_o_) Anyone guess the runner at Caulfield?
  2. I thought the famous "South" may have been another connection to the Moroney stable... an owner... possibly...A H South part owner of Altered Image? I guessed wrong then... I'd never make a detective! :\
  3. Chris your powers are amazing! You have locked Heart Of Dreams in a place alright. The spelling paddock for the whole bloody spring!!!
  4. I hope everyone's is holding up well down there...especially Craig & Di who have been hit hard looking at the video of there house. Thoughts are with you all.
  5. Agree wholeheartedly! Steve Davis & Adrian Clark are class presenters and the interview show on Monday was totally professional. Wouldn't expect anything less from these two. We need more of this and less of the others. Well Done Steve & Adrian and Trackside producers for giving us something we want. Now fix Trackside Channel 36 so it is no longer a clone of TAB TV 35 and I'll be even happier!
  6. Here is a simple goal for a recovery of NZ Racing! Maiden: $10,000 Rating 70: $12,500 Rating 75: $15,000 Rating 80: $17,500 Rating 85: $20,000 Rating 90: $22,500 Open: $25,000 LISTED: $50,000 GROUP 3: $100,000 GROUP 2: $200,000 GROUP 1: $300,000 How do we achieve this??????
  7. Reminds me of the late 1980's when Jim Gibbs had Spyglass, Dungarvan, Sounds Like Fun, Maurine & Dark Moments running around in all the big northern cups and winning them.
  8. What a tough front running horse Bruce Almighty is! You just gotta love the free running style of the mighty bruce! Connections must be having a ball travelling the country with this bloke!
  9. Reese Jones too... timed to perfection on Indikator in the Rotorua Cup.
  10. :flower: RULE THE CATWALK :flower: BRUNO THE VIKING :flower: MODEL HUNTER :flower: RULING REPLICA :flower: THE HORNED HUNTER
  11. I would have thought Road To Rock was streets ahead of them on recent form? Then again this is the racing game...good luck to the (NZ) breds anyhow!
  12. Yes I would have had a dollar or two on Pleasant Prince had he made the Kentucky Derby field. So instead I tossed up between Ice Box & Paddy O'Prado before settling on the later @ $21 fixed odds(sadly no pay out for 3rd). I noticed Ice Box only just got past Pleasant Prince in the Florida Derby...so that is grand form leading into the Preakness and Belmont. Were you disappointed Pleasant Prince not qualifying for the Kentucky Derby and missing out by only two spots? Or was it a blessing in disguise the way track conditions turned out on the day? I look forward to the Preakness and Belmont!
  13. Pat Finnegan For The NZ Racing Hall Of Fame! :y:
  14. I see Kentucky Derby GR.1 winner Super Saver's Third Dam also produced former Breeders' Cup Juvenile GR.1 winner Rhythm(USA) who stood at Cambridge Stud in the 1990's. Rhythm(USA)being the Sire of Ethereal(NZ) Melbourne Cup & Caulfield Cup GR.1, Tapildo(NZ) NZ Oaks GR.1, Upsetthym(NZ) Auckland Cup GR.1 and Zabeat(NZ) Wellington Cup GR.1. Some very good staying blood in this family that results suggest mix well our (NZ) bred broodmares. Obviously Super Saver having now won the 2010 Kentucky Derby GR.1 will not be standing at stud in New Zealand in the foreseeable future. This brings about thoughts of other possible candidates to bring to this country to carry on our proud tradition of breeding Classic & Cup winners with strong staying blood from family's like Super Saver's. Perhaps the other Kentucky Derby placegetter Paddy O'Prado would be a cheaper option for NZ breeder's. A brave run for third in this morning's Kentucky Derby showed some staying stamina after an interrupted passage. Paddy O'Prado is by Champion Sire El Prado(IRE) who like High Chaparral, Galizzz, and Montjeu is a son of Sadler's Wells! Not only this but Paddy O'Prado's dam is by former Fayette Park based Sire Prized(USA) who produced from his first crop of only 35 foals, classic staying stars like Prized Gem Kelt Capital Stakes GR.1 & Brisbane Cup GR.1 (dam of Nom Du Jeu by Montjeu AJC Derby GR.1), Surprize Surprize NZ Bloodstock Breeders Stakes GR.1, Sale Of Century Rosehill Guineas GR.1 and useful mulitple GR.1,GR.2 & Gr.3 performers Millennium & Mirkola Lass. Prized also sired Prized Lady Auckland Cup Gr.1(Twice). Prized is now becoming a useful broodmare Sire through the deeds of Paddy O'Prado(by El Prado IRE), Harris Tweed(by Montjeu), Puttanesca(by Bertolini), All In Black(by Don Eduardo) and many others. Prized has also sired other useful gallopers to name but a few ...Uprize, All In Grace, Lesley Coup, Zillian, Awatere Lad, Surprize Package, O'Driscoll, Somoya, Possession, Sir Prized, Santa Anita, Prized Touch, Coup Triumphal, Prized Oak, Kiri and Prized Punch. Paddy O'Prado & Super Saver are the type of potential staying Sires we need to continue to bring to (NZ) and carry on our renowned Classic & Cup race winners. :flower:
  15. Well Done Sunlineboy! I hope you got the dollars! I wish I'd followed you and that American who splashed out $100,000 big ones onto Super Saver! I had my first big bet in a Kentucky Derby today onto Paddy O'Prado @$21 which ran third and looking likely half way down without getting all favours into the straight. Sadly Final Fields don't pay out on 3rd Very exciting race this year anyhow! :y:
  16. Stuffed Up...should read..... ============== Maiden: $10,000 Rating 70: $12,500 Rating 75: $15,000 Rating 80: $17,500 Rating 85: $20,000 Rating 90: $22,500 Open: $25,000 LISTED: $50,000 GROUP 3: $100,000 GROUP 2: $200,000 GROUP 1: $300,000
  17. Geoff is onto it!! But we can only dream of this today. Reduce the overinflated stakes for races like the Kelt! Maiden races should not race for less than $10,000 anywhere! We need a national criteria set for stakes for all clubs to abide by. Here are my dream suggestions for an initial recovery of grassroots racing... ============== Maiden: $10,000 Rating 70: $12,500 Rating 75: $15,000 Rating 80: $17,500 Rating 85: $20,000 Rating 80: $22,500 Rating 90: $25,000 Open: $30,000 LISTED: $50,000 GROUP 3: $100,000 GROUP 2: $200,000 GROUP 1: $300,000 If NZ Racing had consistent stakes set every meeting based on this criteria I would consider racing many horse's. How many others would? Increasing horse numbers and ownership... could increase stakes? Is this a realistic goal that can be reached? Nevertheless until stakes reach this sort of level....you'd be mad to race a thoroughbred in NZ today!
  18. I based my theory off a sprinter down south "Shake It" which won a Rating 90 Sprint a few weeks ago as a Rating 75 horse carrying 53kgs. At his next start... he is up 5 points to Rating 80 carrying topweight of 58kgs. Previous start placed in an open handicap. I guess that's the penalty of racing out of your class?
  19. From good stock...maturity beyond his years. Probably the most promising since L.A. O'Sullivan. James... keep your feet on the ground(when not riding) and don't let the head swell with success and you just could be the best we've seen for decades. Good luck and All The Best!
  20. Vital Princess (Rating 74) I'd expect her to get 5-6 points progressing her to a rating of 79-80. Which at a guess would see her carry 57-58kgs in a Rating 80 event. Who knows how the ratings are applied in this country?
  21. My girlfriend will be very disappointed with this decision!!
  22. Then we get the odd Aussie come on here and say NZ racing is week! I wonder why? WEALTH PRINCESS(NZ) SOLD! MILITARY MOVE(NZ) SOLD! CORPORAL JONES(NZ) SOLD! HANDSOME ZULU(NZ) SOLD! If they can't get their hands on our racehorse's they take our Stallions! HIGH CHAPARRAL GONE!
  23. Remember Sir Slick doesn't race as well in the Spring as he does over the Summer/Autumn months. Maybe he can break that record too this year?
  24. I'll be cheering for Pleasant Prince! :y:
