  1. Luck Radich has always been a talent with common sense solutions but far too bright for most of the leeches running racing. He would show up all those career corporates...so there is no way they'd want him rocking the cushy boat (Titantic).
  2. Bay and Brown by all accounts.
  3. Phar Lap and Bonecrusher went alright.
  4. Sad to hear...used to have a few sessions with Roc in what we called the Crazy's Bar at the Matamata Hotel many moons ago.
  5. Abandoned Steeplechase races at Te Rapa on Saturday as well being too firm.
  6. I'm sure a naughty long legged bird will be welcomed with open arms though !
  7. Jokes aside...I hope young Savish Khetoo is O.K and recovers quickly from his injuries. Never like to see any accidents happen on course. Bad luck for the Riverton RC this Easter also.
  8. ...and we thought the race programming calendar was bad ?
  9. I've always been a fan of Te Akau based apprentice Niranjan Parmar. Just watch Race 1 at Avondale today aboard Pozzi Vibe and view his outstanding horsemanship to stay with the horse! Congrats to winning South Island based rider Tina Comignaghi who is also riding in great form.
  10. Horse training business to pay reparations after teenager left paraplegic on first day of work Hanna McCallum11:37, Mar 21 2022 Joseph Johnson/Stuff A young rider was left paraplegic after an accident on her first day of work. (File photo) A Canterbury horse training business has been sentenced to pay reparations of more than $300,000 after an accident left a 16-year-old rider a paraplegic on her first day of work. Blackadder Racing was sentenced in Christchurch District Court on February 9, just over three years since the young rider was asked to ride a thoroughbred racehorse on her first day working for the business. An investigation by WorkSafe found the rider was not capable of riding a racing-fit racehorse, although she did have some riding experience. She was not expecting to ride on her first day and was not dressed appropriately, it said. The racehorse bolted and unable to control the horse, the rider fell when the horse tried to jump over a fence and missed. She was left a paraplegic. The accident almost mirrored and came three years after another young rider, Sophia Malthus, was left paralysed after an accident also on her first day of employment. The 19-year-old went from being a trainee jockey at a stable near Ardmore in Auckland to facing life with a serious spinal cord injury after breaking her neck on November 29, 2016. Auckland horse trainer Stephen John McKee was ordered to pay $372,000 after he was found to have failed to ensure the health and safety of Malthus, who he employed as a stable hand. The WorkSafe investigation found Blackadder Racing, based in Rangiora, had not completed an induction on the morning of the accident or any assessment of her riding ability, despite intending to. The business also failed to supply the rider with adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) when riding a thoroughbred racehorse. The young rider was not wearing a helmet approved for riding a thoroughbred racehorse, or a safety vest at the time, which was a requirement by the New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing Inc for any licensed riders, it said. Blackadder Racing’s health and safety policy stated it would provide PPE to any person riding at the facility and only experienced riders were allowed to ride the horses. Not-For-Syndication In a similar but separate incident, Sophia Malthus was 19 years old when an accident on her first day of work left her a tetraplegic in 2016. (File photo) If the business had taken the adequate steps, the accident may have never happened, WorkSafe area investigation manager Steve Kelly said. “There has clearly been a lack of planning and forethought given to the hazards and risks of a new worker undertaking track work riding, which has led to an incredibly tragic, and incredibly preventable incident,” he said. The rider was approached for the story but declined to comment. In the year prior to the accident, she had been studying at the National Equestrian Academy in Rangiora, completing her national certificate in equine skills level three, specialising as a sporthorse stable assistant. The certificate did not include any assessment of riding in-work thoroughbred racehorses. Blackadder Racing was ordered to pay reparations of $317, 474 on February 9, while no fine was imposed due to financial capacity. Costs of $14,496.66 were awarded to WorkSafe. “It is the duty of a business to ensure their staff have the appropriate PPE, and are competent and capable of performing the tasks asked of them,” Kelly said. “Worker competency assessments must be done in a safe environment where controls are in place to prevent serious harm.” Blackadder Racing was also approached for the story and declined to comment.
  11. Yep...they didn't mind blowing $50,000,000 plus $17,000,000 per year on the dog TAB web-site that is worse than the original. That's the root cause of the cost cutting to prevent potential bankruptcy !
  12. Or maybe give it to the connections of the 2nd horse?
  13. Now that's a name I haven't heard for a long time. Used to have a beer or two with Neville back in the day when in Matamata. He trained a useful mare at the time called Scribel from memory?... and another handy galloper later on named Placido?
  14. Look towards Aussie...watch, listen and learn! They know how to put on a show and entertain! Hence their racing is the best in the world as a result.

  16. Leith Innes No Longer Riding Ellerslie today.
  17. Noted Tavistock sired multiple winners today...2 x GR.3's at Flemington 1 x GR.3 Rosehill 1 x Trentham & 1 x Pukekohe even his son Tarzino sired one at Eagle Farm. A real loss to the (NZ) breeding industry!
  18. Huge sales results for Tivaci. Produced GR.1 winner Never Been Kissed (Tivaci x Movie) from his first crop and multiple Gr.2 winner Wolverine (Tivaci x Knew It) from his second.
  19. I much rather like cheering my horse on to win than to lose ! Just doesn't seem right.
  20. I'd bring both mares back home to spell over winter and return to Victoria in the spring for more GR.1 rewards.
  21. Levante got a bit too far back for mine...but still a great run!
  22. I agree...couldn't believe it! I rated Roch 'N' Horse a better chance down the straight today than Levante based on their Telegraph runs. Should not have paid more than $20...in saying that it was a GR.1 1200m Sprint in Australia !
  23. I"m hoping our prolific tipster has unloaded his wallet on 15. Espiona in the next....or I'm gone!
  24. Congrats to the Williams team at Little Avondale Stud also Team Moroney & Pam Gerard at Ballymore Stables! Fantastic Victory by Per Incanto mare Roch 'N' Horse in a 1200m GR.1 at Flemington ! A terrific run also by the other Kiwi Proisir mare Levante flying home for 4th! Go The Kiwi's !
