Chestnut got a reaction from Cubes in NZ Post & Racing Publications delivery
The decreasing volume of mail is due to the fact that emails, social media, skype, facebook, internet banking, receiving bills online, are faster ways of communicating for most businesses and personal users. Lowering the price of stamps and post boxes will not encourage people to send more mail because there is no way that a letter will get across town, let alone NZ or the world in less than two seconds and there is no more "cheques getting lost in the mail" scenarios  ..  You can now scan and digitally sign documents, you can also securely send bank statements, bank documents, legal documents to where you need to do it online, without having to obtain hard copies and send/deliver them.

A large portion of NZ Posts throughput was business mail, including cheque payments and invoices.  That has now dwindled due to the above.

Putting the price of stamps and mail associated costs up was the only way to ensure they could provide the service, cover running costs and employ people.   If you lower the price of the stamp and post boxes, it won't encourage people to use the postal system more because much of their old market already utilises services online and you will just end up having the same people using this service with less income coming in to cover the costs.  The result will be they will cut staff, cut the number of post offices, which are now basically kiwi banks anyway, and the service will be even further diminished.   Postal boxes are the last stop in the chain so lowering the cost of having a post box won't encourage people to have them unless they don't want mail to go to their house.   They would still have to go into the post box each day to clear it.. and chances are they would probably only go every second or third day anyway.. which means the mail would have already been delivered right to their door.

Every business, has to work to a budget and cover initial running costs otherwise it ceases to trade, NZ Post is no different.   Their budget is based on throughput which is never going to increase now that faster, more efficient, just as reliable options are available to businesses and many of the population.

Courier Post services are still running the same and it is likely that many of the magazines/publications will be couriered to local suppliers and delivered on the Monday or Wednesday.  It may be more an issue for the printers of the publications to ensure they have them ready for collection and delivery to fit in with the delivery days out to household mailboxes.

    Profile of an old dog…..

Born in 1939 at Harihari….educated in Greymouth, Christchurch and Hastings. completed apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery. Served with NZ Police, NZ Army [16yrs], and as a Prison Officer [22 yrs].  Employed in many other occupations such as shepherd, scrubcutter, fencer, pest control, council infrastructure [drainage, road construction and stormwater], draughtsman, field surveying, estimator, builder. Provided security to armouries from Poverty Bay to Taranaki to Wellington. Only claim to fame was as foreman of the construction of NZ Army Museum at Waiouru.
Now that you have figured it out that I’m 359 years old, I will move on.

Sport…..has been a passion all my life [only went to school to eat marmite and cheese sandwiches]. I have been gifted with the basic requirement of all athletes, whether be feline, canine, equine or human….simply… balance.
Have played Rugby [Rep], Football, Tennis, Cricket, Sailing, Rugby League [Rep], Golf [Rep 7 Hcp], Field & Indoor Hockey, Indoor Basketball, Squash, Badminton [Rep], Surf Lifesaving [Rep], Water Polo [Rep], Swimming [Rep], Darts [Rep], Table Tennis, Volleyball, athletics, Rifleshooting, and many others to a lesser degree. Born too early or Triathlons and Ironman would have been a target.

Horses….once had a ¼ share in a Famous Star filly…a really delightful little girl to be with, trained by Mark Oulaghan….went to trials but did not like other horses around her, and that was that…they say “That’s racing”…but it didn’t.

Best Bet....walked in the TAB on a July Friday circa 1978/79 in the early days of the Trifecta....placed $2 on the Franklin Trots using the number of my rego...9-6-7....read the paper on Monday to see it was successfull...could not believe my eyes to see the divvy of $5250.10.
Ten Thousand quickly became the deposit for a home [after shouting the troops]...I think this is the best form of race analysis...the little old ladies have it right, that is by name, colour and number

Current Interests….watching live sport on TV or on computer. Conduct race tipping competitions on my website::

I got all excited when I read that heading in the forum.. perhaps Opaki was going to rise from the ashes... but no.. not unless it miraculously warped across the Tasman - I think that we are going to see a lot more of this happening...  with the professional presentation we are getting from Australia now and the timings of when it is usually shown.. late Saturday and Sunday afternoons when everyone is getting home from Saturday and Sunday outings and kids sports matches.. I think that interest is slowly edging that way and in turn perhaps towards betting onshore in Aussie with the options that are offered online.

Thanks.  Not a very well written article then.  Perhaps it might be best if Alex Park and ATC ask to review any press relating to this before it is printed.  As it is obviously a rather contentious issue, it might be wise just to make sure.

Jack.. your original post was a cheap jibe at Ricky May, you can then say hey I was just joking, because that's what folk usually say when they realise they've sounded a bit daft.. but really that's what it was, daft humour.

Why not start up your own thread having a go with that comment and see what feedback you get... or.. comment and add to why you feel BWD's post was right or wrong - with some basis.. debate it with your knowledge.. that might add something to the thread that everyone can then build on.    One off shots don't tend to create much flow in a thread.. but then again.. sometimes that is the point of the person's post .. is it not?

I think it's a worthwhile discussion.. you can add to it or not, but why try and shoot it down as it begins, not really conducive to a forum.

Cheers for that Counter Punch. I wasn't aware of those details.

Terror To Love has gone poorly previously then bounced back quickly but it will be some turn around if he can do that in these Inters.

Fingers crossed he can cover himself in glory one last time especially if that's in a race like the Easter Cup.

One thing that will be interesting with these plans is the height of the buildings etc located in the middle of the track and how much this will impact on the viewing options, especially from the lounges on the track level.   Currently it's possible to see pretty much all of the track from the fence.  The club may need to look at installing a large viewing screen to counteract that or perhaps they will just encourage all racegoers to use the stands.

Really?  how much time did this take out of your viewing.. we go on about how is trackside of any use to new viewers.. and a presenter takes up what... 2 seconds?  to say... go down one on your remote..  sure.. you're a seasoned viewer.. but we hear every day presenters going over form that surely we as seasoned viewers would have studied.. watched trials?  ..

I think we can forgive him.. two seconds... and perhaps thank him for maybe even making life easier for a new punter ..
