  1. Hi Mike fair enough, I guess thats what happens with some antis they become too closed minded. I was the same i got caught up in thinking animals were human and had the same rights until i realised that its there welfare that was the important thing and there instinctive rights to do what they were bred for. Greyhounds need to run whether on a track or coursing field etc just like birds need to fly. Take that right away from them and thats where the cruelty lies, my lurcher ran a hare last week and hit some barbed wire cost me $260 worth of stitches but thats what she does. If i never let her run she would be a very unhappy dog just like all the race dogs we can't stop it we just have to keep on improving track safety and responsibilty when they retire from racing or dont make the grade. As for the whailing if they are not endangered i cant see the difference from that and shark fishing or trawler fishing with nets or maybe humans get emotive over whales and not the ugly things killed at sea.
  2. You could be right mike and lad 27, but if the welfare of the dogs had been top priority from the start then maybe Aaron and alike would not be on a mission to get the industry shut down but could be working with the industry to maintain ongoing welfare standards. Im sure Aaron is not that stupid that he thinks all trainers are the same and after all the Information he has acquired about the industry they only have there self to blame.
  3. Steves post makes a good deal of sense to me, the more people work together it can only go forwards arguing and tit for tat is going nowhere. the banning of things never really works it just drives things underground so surely any improvements that can be made with the trainers and the greyhound defence league has to be a good start, maybe Aaron could visit the like this trainer and see a different light on things.
  4. And by the way that includes me in the above i had a race dog so was part of the whole thing.
  5. I knew phil when i lived in auckland and he seemed to me a genuine bloke who i think has been made a scapegoat for the industry and while there are many genuine greyhound people out there, there are a lot who have done the same thing. I also think the blame and responsibilities should not just fall on the trainer but the owner as well. If you buy a race dog and it does not work out or ends its career then you have the responsibility to make arrangements for that dog not just tell the trainer to deal with it. Unfortunately the trainer is the one 'at the coal face' who has to deal with the inevitable. At least he got the vet out to put the dogs down thats more than some people and at the end of the day when we have working animals and they come to the end if we cant find homes then they are put down and this happens with farm animals, dog breeders etc. In my opinion he seemed clearly upset and I dont think it was just for the camera. Can anyone in the industry hand on heart say their conscience is clear?

    Islam

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psZBaJU_Cvo No wonder people are anti islam when this kind of crap is allowed to carry on in public, i cant think of another race or religion that acts like this when in another country.
  7. Just because some greyhounds have a very high prey drive does not mean they cant make good pets, all sight hounds have strong prey drive what about every lurcher owner or saluki owner these dogs are no different from a race dog just the same as Huskys and pit bulls they can all be great pets you just need to be a responsible owner.
  8. plus all the rest of the top bands, u2 rhiana, beyonce bruce spingsteen the list goes on but wait what they mean is they are coming to auckland and maybe wellington. well what about the rest of the place ie christchurch all we get is all the desperate who are skint like nick kershaw air supply and the shaddows etc surly if you have come this far they could play here.? my daughter had to go auckland to see a band cost me $350.00 for a $56 ticket. ?

  10. I am part irish and how strange that you can still tell all the thick paddy jokes and no one bats an eyelid, but seems to cause uproar when aimed at other cultures. At least the irish can take a joke as a joke.

    big problem

I have read this three times now and cant make head or tail of it, i thought the person may be foreign and have a lack of basic english but the spelling and punctuation are spot on but to me they are not proper sentences. mushrooms it is then.
  12. In my opinion craig roberts does a good job he always says a bit about the dogs and there background, not just the betting side of things and always tries to make conversation with the trainers and owners of the dogs during these events and makes it a bit more interesting for the likes of myself who is not into betting.
  13. good to see you have not lost your spirit look forward to some heated debates. .
