  1. Just an example. The stagger on a 400m athletic track is 7.04m per 1m wide lane. so out in lane 8 it is 49..28m.

So if you started in a straight line and are 5 wide to hold a position in a horse race you are flat out or losing ground relative to inside horses. Thats why barrier draws matter especially in sprint races,

  2. From the "oblique" phraseology being used it would seem to be a deflection away from a truth, that mistake/s were made.

You could say that PW is doing a "Leggy" which is a swerve. Thats a dead rat that CEOs have got to eat to protect the assets when there is a cock up. But it is not the end of the world. Ellerslie will come right.

Commiserations to the owners of horses injured. I know of one that has died. Racing is a hard game.

Nerula no point...Mr know it all will never front up ...I just wont engage with the arrogant ... again...I know what I was told by someone who knows exactly what has gone on but hey why let the truth get in the way of a good story...the NZTR and ATR would never put out false information now would they hahah...let him puff his chest out and feel important...his loss not mine.

Yes I think I will do the same and not engage with him. He kind of trolls me or at least go contrarian to what I say.  A pity.

I have taken a keen interest in the track and have been on it shortly after the seed came up. i've be back since as every 3 moths I call in to ATR HQ as part of what I do. I invariably have a look and check out Taiki's rose.

I thought the matting was in the shallow root zone, not the surface?

Mmm, I think they dont want to admit much. I think matting is another word for thatch. If its sub-surface the sward would be coming off.. I know of unhappy Owners that lost a horse from Ellerslie and there may be insurance implications to come

How many tracks in New Zealand are mown with a proper catcher for ALL of the grass clippings every mow? ( I know the answer).

If these clippings were fully removed from the track every mow they would not be left to rot on the ground and act as a cover so that natural light, heat and rain can penetrate the soil structure more easily. This would allow dampness to penetrate deeper into the soil. The clippings would also not be there to increase slippage chances.

A full renovation in my opinion would involve a ploughing of the topsoil allowing it to aerate before resowing.

Yes you have nailed it. The problem surely is thatch. The grass seed was heavily fertilised and the growth astonishing right from germination. The problem will be helped when the fertiliser load reduces and a more normal growth pattern occurs. In days gone by sheep was the answer. Get the rakes out?

  6. Thank You - you are a good man. I am recalling I wrote a story on Ocean Way way back.. He wase was over 30 years old. Went to Patsy' place and took photos. If I can find I will put it up. But I doubt it

I used to see Bob at Puke and Ellerslie and say hello. He was a good Counties man.

  7. The bottom line it was an ill judged ride. CW would have been aware of the fact Jenni always "jumps and runs." What was he thinking that she would stop so he could catch her. He could take note of J Mc on a good horse;       Get it out - Settle one out 4-6 back - Peel out top of the straight - Pick them up - Win!!!!!!!
