  1. Bloody sad to hear of this loss to Novara Park - thoughts with that team.
  2. Yes completely agree with that he only had one in book 1 which sold for 150k and completely different type to the book 2 colt that sold for 55k. Sales are very unforgiving although many go nuts over first season sires and really buyers from Aussie want in the main horses with proven Group winning/placed Australian form and plenty here to choose from, he's had such few mares that he won't appeal to that many unless outstanding type and when you're breeding you're not sure what you'll get noticeably the 150k colt was a 32k pinhook - he's a good match to my mare but he would be a breed to race then sell but haven't been there yet. As for a stallion throwing his type is it that important? Does it mean they carry their speed etc or is it just a physical manifestation that makes you think they will be like their sire?...remember Lucky Unicorn he threw a type especially in some of those heads and size although IMO the filly Capital Diamond referred to her female line...
  3. Huey he's only had 77 foals 38 runners for 20 winners only 11 runners in Oz for 6 winners with 14 wins but yes not what you'd traditionally go to if you were breeding to sell, however he only needs a couple of good ones to get the wheels moving. He's a lovely horse and hasn't really seen that many mares so fingers crossed
  4. You've done the Danehill Cross with Super Easy - and as with thoroughbred village agree re the stats. Sweynesse gives you the Lohnro/Danehill cross that has worked well - he's a quality horse at a good fee.

From NZB 2.4 Vendor Bids Prohibited You as Vendor or any person acting as Your Agent must not bid on any Lot if You are the owner of the Lot, nevertheless: (a) A co-owner of a Lot (such as a partner or syndicate member) may bid if intending to purchase the Lot; and (b) You must in relation to any improper bidding by You or on Your behalf: (i) Pay full commission on any Lot that You buy back. Sorry can't copy it all...dodgy computer but this is current under the Conditions of sale. The Auctioneer is allowed to bid on behalf of the vendor as long as they say it's a vendor bid.

Well it was in 2015 unless you were the part owner of a horse or part of a syndicate that wants to buy your horse outright - NZB policy

It's not a good look!! Also it's an illegal practice although obviously it goes on. If it was mine I'd be bloody furious! I'd rather take my horse home if the 'true' market couldn't pay what I believed was fair - get your horse out and take it to the RTR or get them to pay for it since they bid it up!! And Book 1!!

Not sure but..... served 76,66,84 from 2013 then 167 in 2016 that's a massive jump - maybe just not enough form to go for big money but remember how you could buy a Tavistock for little money early on? He's only had 6 to race in Aussie, Caricature ran well today.

It was great watching and thanks to those that put in the dollars to provide the pop up channel. I loved the commentary although missed a horse I wanted to see through the ring but thought if it meant that much I would've gone to Karaka in person - it was fab coverage roll on next year!! Loved the Moody snippets and the commentary provided by Aussie chap Anderson.
  10. Yep it's tough and you're right if you're selling you have to provide what buyers want...hopefully you can return at Ready to Run or after a trial
  11. Bullbars is a lovely type, Swynford what does Roc de Cambes look like. Also Tomjr what type is she height, conformation...needs to be considered as much as pedigree match. I like her bottom line . I remember Scenic well...
  12. Good chat - I'm surprised at 900 in private hands....I have one mare and am trying to buy land so I can lose the agistment fees and care for her at home. Not sure how most small breeders make it at least where she is currently I don't get charged for mane pulling...
  13. Interesting read, so many variables can occur with the horses....example - horse I bred from low level race mare to considered failed stallion (by the time it reached the sales) purchased for market value. Raced as 2yr old failed, won as early 3yr old then nothing, been through 4 trainers by then, bought by somone for $500 has won another race and placed several times and currently spelling. Bart Cummings said "Patience is the cheapest part of racing but most people don't use it" It's not easy to pick a yearling..there are many stories of yearlings sold for millions with no return. I'll never make money from this game but I'm keeping all I breed now. Good luck if you're looking to buy.
  14. Here you go Jess filly by......Contributer
  15. Thought this bloke deserved a thread of his own with some info posted on the Wrote thread. He's going along nicely in Oz and I see placings for two of his three runners at Te Rapa today. Didn't know how to post your stats PaddyM
  16. Yes agree with Huey's comments also under appreciate Lohnro stock. Good luck to the stud. I've been watching in oz a few nice Bullbars going around here
  17. Yep take the train but take it from Flinders Station every man and his dog gets on at Southern Cross. I'm surprised you can still get CBD accomm.
  18. Hey Jess personally I find that a lot of those programmes only seem to take into account the male line. I have used a pedigree consultant at a reasonable fee from Australia who has given me a list of 8 stallions that match well with my girl and in order of her preference. It is then up to me to see what I like conformation wise that suits. I am happy to pm a copy of her report to you so you can see what you get. I also liked that one of her picks included a horse I have previously looked at but I don't really have the knowledge base yet to feel confident to go it alone as it's a lot of $$ to breed and giving the mare her best chance at stud is my first priority. Although there are no guarantees in this game!
  19. Glad I can check here - was trying to have a squizz last night and again today from Oz
  20. Breeder - yes timing is everything! Not sure when is best as a sire could have a few good runners first up so you breed to him then by the time you get to the sales he is seen as failed and your struggling to sell, I guess that those who pinhook weanlings have a far shorter timeframe so the loss may be minimised. It's a tricky game.....
  21. Slam Dunk I think it's pretty obvious really to survive people have to sell as the costs of racing a horse - trainers, vets, transport, farriers etc far outweigh the return you get for racing - no business can sustain such losses.
  22. It's very sad and it's hurting the small players for sure - as I said on the breeding forum these poor prices I believe are directly associated with low stakes which has lead to our good breeding stock being sold offshore - unfortunately I think a lot of broodmares will be catalogued later in the year If you're not in K1 you're better off keeping the stock and trying to sell off the track or lease to race...The top few % of breeders are really in K1 and even Waikato Stud tweeted that to meet the market all their Select stock will have a $10k reserve!!
