Prize winners: $80 to the Championship winner - Sayer $25 each to the Championship runner-up and the Plate winner Paul Casper $20 each to the highest aggregate on each of the 5 days of the comp Richie Alf Insider Peter RS Sayer $20 to highest aggregate across the 5 days combined - Joan Prizes in the form of a single bet (win and/or place on the tote) - 50% of any proceeds to the winner, 50% recycled. Hope I’m not doing the wrong thing, but it seems that this new thread could be useful for the winners to post their bets for everyone to see.

Yes Liz, it will be interesting to see how and when the “current” betting platform gets replaced with the “Ladbrokes” betting platform (which I understand will also use the TAB branding). My fear is that Entain pick up no costs going forward for the Allen software so any contractual commitment comes out of the distribution minimum from Entain, being another deduction from what will be available for the racing codes and sports beneficiaries. It’s all a bit of a worry!

Surely the removal of pokie machines from TAB venues is all about ensuring that when punters go there they can’t be distracted and spend their punting fund on them rather than on betting. Entain wouldn’t want the pokies available in their TAB venue. Doubt that “harm minimisation” is behind this decision at all. I still have great difficulty understanding how a different organisation running betting in NZ can make so much extra profit that racing is financially saved. Hopefully they can. Will they do things that much more efficiently? I know the last few years has seen the TAB cutting back on any form of racing industry promotion (eg newspapers, radio, etc) based on the philosophy that the VIP punters were their focus (as confirmed by Dean McKenzie). Entain have a huge task to make substantial change and NZTR will have to play their part for it to be successful. I will continue to bet on and race horses for entertainment and cross my fingers that the choice to go with Entain works out.

One of those named leading trainers once said to me, to get success you still have to have the right horse. None of them can win races with a slow horse.

The fundamental problem is the conflict that cannot be resolved - the mission of a betting agency is to increase punting revenue, and encouraging additional punting conflicts with social responsibility to help people stop gambling when they should.

It’s been a long time between drinks, must be years since my last RC comp win. And not for lack of trying. Thanks SNM for the scoring and updates, Alf (Phil) for the creative design, and Scooby for the hosting. Great fun!

Looking back at some older races, it appears that NZTR are in the process of changing the formats of the videos so that we need a special video player to view them. For my horses the races before 2020 have been modified but those since are still viewable with standard video player software.. This begs the question as to why this approach would be taken. Perhaps the only explanation is that they can "monetize" the playback, a term used by the new video company JW Player in their sales blurb. Some sort of explanation from NZTR might be helpful.
