It's the product that needs improving, not the window dressing
I don't watch The First Call or The Harness Box Seat, they just don't interest me
Saying that, I did actually see some of The First Call last week - I happened to have my TV on 36 whilst I was catching up on internet news from about the globe. It was the same thing I used to see when I was involved with Racing - and I've been out of it for over three years now
Racing seems to have headed downward in these last three years. It was still free racing when I worked in the Racing Bureau, and minimum stakes were $6K, and the bottom rating for a horse was 50 and it was fairly simple to understand ratings of horses
Now, I don't really care. I love punting but NZ racing is not attractive enough for me. I prefer to play poker, and in three weeks I am going to Gold Coast with a few thousand in my pocket. Jupiter's Casino is very attractive, but racing, nah, not for me any more. I just don't enjoy it like I used to
But Melbourne in the Spring is still something to look forward to. And perhaps our better horses will be heading there, and the best of the poor lot let behind will be racing here for crap stakes, which leads to crap racing. Yeah, perhaps that makes them better to punt on, but not for me
But good luck to you if you're still willing to back NZ racing, and if you enjoy punting on NZ racing, whether backing a winner or two, or not, all power to you, and all the best!
