The qualifying standard is there so they could potentially earn the right to start in unrestricted races, if they were not otherwise already qualified. Most in that race were already.

The stake is guaranteed by the Sires Stakes board, and only those horses that were originally nominated and have had sustaining payments made along the way are eligible to start. The stake cannot be "moved" to another race.
