  1. Mmmm, I think you're right Scooby. I see the Met Service this morning are forecasting 48 mls in Upper Hutt to midnight tonight with it easing tomorrow late morning.
  2. Thanks Pickel but it begs the question, 'If every photo finish image shows the 1st horse on the finish line' why does the Hong Kong jockey club have a team of finish professionals in the box and a committee before determining the actual winner ? Your 'On the line' that often is 'through the line' is not good enough IMO.
  3. Correct MBStuff, that is a very clear video explanation so thanks for finding that. Unfortunately, I doubt that our racing clubs have a specific team working in the Photo finish box with the same equipment and analysis to the same extent as Hong Kong. I'll watch the Christmas racing with great interest. Thanks everyone. I'm done on this topic. Onwards and upwards
  4. Thanks Berzerk, then IMO a pixel width is not good enough. It needs to be part of a pixel to show the first person in your example or horse to reach the line particularly when one is traveling faster than another in that split second or lunges late. How do the Aussies achieve it with their photo finishes that show the first horses nose to hit the line ?
  5. Thanks for the further input. My concern hence the original question is no longer with the few grand in the quaddie that I missed out with Canheroc losing the decision to Ess Vee Are but with the photo finish evidence the club provided justifying their decision. This will happen again in a close finish where one horse lunges late in that final split second of reaching the line. With modern technology the photo should show the first horse to reach the line or both of the horses at or on the line (not one through the line & then determining that as the winner). That is the only evidence or justification of which one wins or confirmation if it's a deadheat. Similarly to separate placings if need be. The pixel capability should be able to do this. Merry Christmas
  6. Why ? The photo finish should always be showing the first horse to reach the line. Otherwise, what's the point of the evidence as to who's won the race.
  7. The photo finish shows at the end of the video above and it's certainly very close but I'd still argue that if their equipment is accurate enough to drop back half a frame either Canheroc would reach the line first (given the outside horse was closing) or they'd both break the line together and it'd be a deadheat. The Club should show the frame when Ess vee Are reaches the line.
  8. Thanks for your thoughts team. I still think the proper photo finish frame should show the winning horse in this case they have it as 'Ess Vee Are' at the line (not through it) and then Canheroc should be a nose back or half a frame off the line if they're correct although I suspect they're both on the line at that point. These horses were not horribly out of sink in their strides and that photo would remove any doubts. Ess Vee Are came from behind. I suspect that when Ess Vee Are reached the line Canheroc was also at the line. Like all race courses the stand is not angled parallel to the course and the actual finish line is deceiving and I know Te Rapa favours the outside horse in a close finish but why can't the photo finish verify the result they've concluded. Watch the race finish again here (hope it works) https://loveracing.nz/Common/SystemTemplates/Modal/Video.aspx?v=http%3a%2f%2fwww.racingreplays.co.nz%2fmedia%2f202212%2fM2_WAIK_R07_101222.mp4&i=%2fCommon%2fImage.ashx%3fw%3d720%26h%3d400%26a%3d1%26o%3d1%26bg%3deeeeee%26p%3dhttp%3a%2f%2fwww.racingreplays.co.nz%2fmedia%2f202212%2fM2_WAIK_R07_101222.jpg&r=Race+7+-+DUNSTAN+FEEDS+STAYERS+CHAMPIONSHIP+QUALIFIER&rs=1
  9. My pocket's got over Canheroc's nose defeat in Rce 6 at Te Rapa last Saturday but I don't understand when showing the photo finish confirmation that the winning horse Ess Vee Are is shown 'actually through the line'. I have noticed this before with our racing photo finishes but not so with the Aussie photo finishes (they show the first horse's nose just touching the line). In this race, the winner Ess Vee Are lunged very late after Canheroc had led for the last 50m or so. On course I was sure Canheroc had held on. I was still not convinced he'd lost it when seeing the photo finish. I would love to see the photo finish showing Ess Vee Are's nose first on or at the line (not 'through the line' as provided) as I'm suspicious that that photo would show a deadheat at worst. Please show us a finish photo with Ess Vee Are first touching the line.
  10. Everything in life (including websites) are only as good as the human that creates/enters/updates them. Wouldn't life be simple without humans !!!!
  11. Track listed as 'Dead 4 this morning with 8mm irrigation' on the NZRacing noms/fields site. What a dilemma for the Club with Friday/Saturday forecast fine yet after the inside of the track was off last Saturday and Matamata abandoned yesterday what should the experts be doing to have a fair racing surface come Saturday midday ?

  13. Rusty you're quite correct. Blame the f,,,wits in Internal Affairs & politicians for creating this dinosaur the AML Act. It's Law now whether we like it or not. Don't delay putting your bets on when on course...if someone ahead of you is betting $1k the race will surely start before anyone else gets a bet on. I'm in commercial property management & have my Real Estate Licence. Since 1 January 2019 before listing any vacant commercial space with any Real estate agents all Bldg Owners must supply their passport & evidence that they live where they live. Further more, if they multi list with several different commercial agencies as most do to cover the market they have to replicate this information each time. Why, because its Law. What's achieved. Absolutely nothing except more time lost by owners and agents. Particularly, as only one tenant will lease the space anyway that in fact the owner could do directly without the agencies help. Why does the process start at that point when no money changes hands. The Int Affairs staff and REA/Institute national body have worked this process out together & produced a 49 page RE Guidelines FFS that all RE agencies in the country are grappling with. The Act comes with the usual threats of fines etc The f...wits have forgotten what they're trying to do, reduce money laundering.
  14. They're out of their depth HIgh Sparrow but we know that. 1st Issue I'm still waiting for a refund of $370 spent on two Pick 6 selections (put on at 11.15am on Wednesday 16th January). TAB site showed hot favourite in 2nd leg as scratched so I quickly took other selections in that leg before attending a work meeting. My meeting finished early enabling me to check the fields again at 12.10pm before my next meeting. That hot favourite was now a starter as were several other runners at the meeting who earlier were scratched. I emailed the TAB & asked to cancel both P6 bets (still 2 hrs before race start) and refund the money. I then went down to the TAB & took 2 more P6's for $120 including the earlier scratched horse then off to my next meeting. Still no reply to my request & no refund. I did phone them a few days after & after a lengthy delay the lady checked my emails & verified what I'd asked them to do. She said she'd pass them up to someone with more authority. Still no response. 2nd issue Yesterday, I tried for 40 mins to load my TAB account from 11.50am before the 1st race at TeRapa. No show. Nothing happened after 'Accept'..... Not how NZers run a business
  15. It will be interesting to see what they do with her from here because she is very talented.
