Rusty got a reaction from Red Rum in Were's the orange cone
Are we going on the inside, or the outside road cone today?
This really needs to be included as part of the key info, such as track conditions and rail positioning etc

Over the last few years I’ve enjoyed putting on the Bluetooth headphones and listening to radio Trackside as I work . Coppins, Peter Early, trainers insights to the day’s and weekends racing, CD track spies reports ,Kneebones northern tips.Des Coppins Sunday show and Monday Reviews all gone . Feels like they’ve removed part of the sole of this great sport .As a result of the crude changes I don’t bet during the week now and don’t listen to anything racing apart from Saturday’s  .Not the only one I bet .

This was 10-15 years ago Mikie when things were much different. When quality qualified staff leave and are replaced with people who have no bloody idea what they are doing, the result is the chaos you see now. It sickens me and many others what has happened at the ATC.

Just do a google search and it will pop up top of the list just choose android or ios etc, also checkout youtube for chromecast apps which is how I first came across this and others like mobdro  which are the 2 best hassle free tv and movie apps

The last couple of saturdays I have been enjoying the racing coverage from Aus on channel7 as they have had it on free to air and able to be picked up on a few apps like freeflixhq .Their coverage is totally unobstructed , focussing on all races from randwick flemington and doomben today and having proper lead ups and post race summaries for the big three meetings with virtually no annoying graphics spoiling the view .BEST EVER.Ihope they extend the 6 week term.It is ironic that it seems to be provided by sky and the tab but it is so much better than what they provide to their paying subscribers,go figure

I've always bet with NZ TAB , never considered going elsewhere , never even checked out rivals .
Just have , WOW , information overload , everything required to study form , additional commentaries about horses and how race could play out , speed maps . you name it they have got there .
We are in the dark ages by comparison .
Not sure i'll change , i'd feel like a traitor to a sport that has given me so much enjoyment . But it is thought provoking .

I agree with those last words, a bit of life. My last few times at Riccarton, Ashburton and Timaru have left me shaking my head. The racing itself is fine, it's just the total package that's being offered for a day out is just so stuck in the past.
There is such an urgent need for new ideas and marketing to get the next generation involved. For many, it is a big turnoff.

Ever thought they don’t reply because they don’t have any answers, at least any that make sense...??
Getting people to the track outside of major Carnivals and Holiday time has always been a mission...the options for the discretionary dollar are much greater these days compared to 20 odd years ago and Racing just doesn’t make top of the list for most people. The one thing that does get the non regular along is a Champion or a horse that excites.....think a Sunline, Winx, Makybe Diva or in Harness a Christian Cullen or Lazarus, Lyell Creek....
And what they are proposing for on course punters in future with self service terminals ain’t going to help either....I hope they have plenty of technicians on site to fix the bloody things when they inevitably break down.....Genius.......

And there was me thinking our racing minister said they were to ensure that NZ racing lost no more meetings to inclement weather and the revenue that was lost due to their abandonments . But your first point is regarding Trialing and Training , No vested interest there .

I think you will find this is why Peter Earley has taken the redundancy package, he was never afraid to ask the hard questions, ruffled  a few feathers and he has now paid the price.
He had a few on the back foot with the questions he asked  Edward Rennell and Greg Purcell, loved this, the answers required were not always forthcoming, Pete kept prying and eventually he wore them down.
Enjoy your retirement Pete, always enjoyed your honesty and integrity!

Des was always the ultimate company man , never asked the hard questions . As disappointed as he is still not really stepping on his old bosses toes . It's because of people in the industry such as Des who have a voice and a profile but never stood up and questioned what was going on that racing has continued it's downward spiral . I am not singling Des out and no agenda against Des , just trying to point out that if more people who have a voice within racing had spoke out more and often maybe the situation might not be so dire .

LETS TURN THE CLOCK BACK TO THE OLD RADIO PACIFIC , SET IT UP BROADCAST SPORT AND RACING COMMENTARIES  BY HAVING SOMEONE ON COURSE/ STADIUM. TIPSTERS ACTING INDEPENDENTLY FROM THE TAB AND HELPING PUNTERS BEAT THE BASTARDS.
THE CONCEPT WORKED SO WELL THE TAB BOUGHT THEM LAST TIME AND THE PLAYGROUND HASN'T CHANGED

This is the internet people. They can not stop you betting in Australia anymore than they can not stop you betting on the NZ TAB from Australia. I will continue to bet on my Australian accounts whether they make it law or not.

So what sort of quality will Tab provide with a monopoly and block on anyone betting overseas , Ive got a feeling they will get fat and lazy again and turn punters off the game by producing poor products , no effort to improve and sit on their date .

So he abandoned his TAB account because it was so poor a service , but my understanding is he works overseas now .So now  wants those who still pay for racings upkeep here through taxation held hostage to a basket case betting organisation . I bet 95 per cent on NZ Tab , but the website is rubbish the prices 90 % of time worse , deals average , however a mixture of laziness and loyalty to NZ racing keeps me plodding along with them. Block me out and dictate to me what iam doing and I'd be one dodging round the system to bet overseas on overseas racing it's not that hard to do , rather than what I plan to do now stick with the better OZ racing but betting via NZ Tab  .
    He's a bit of a piss taker imho .

I know RITA inherited this mess but they have hardly been pro active in getting costs under control . Up until last week they hardly made a wimper about restructuring , then bang more announcements than the govt document drop of 2 Fridays ago , and then the use of COVID as having been the destroyer . But of course nobody from top level got the chop , OH ! but they are currently under review , not holding my breath . These are the guys that were in large the ones advising J A and helping him manage his grand plans . Why weren't they one of the first under the microscope , not just in last weeks announcements but surely they should've been put under the blow torch as soon as RITA came into effect . No RITA didn't create this mess but they must hold responsibility for allowing the disease to continue unabated .

    Hi JJ , Greg
Thankyou for the free advice , since the other night when you freely dispensed your advice to Pam on another site then quickly backed that up advising someone on this site the correct business course he should taking to improve himself , but then promptly advised he was beyond redemption , good on you for ensuring he doesn't waste his time , well , iv'e been thinking how can i get a man of such outstanding business acumen and who clearly has led a spectacularly successful life to part with some gems of wisdom to me . Then low and behold there it was , free of charge and i'm sure given with charity in your heart . Not too condescending , just enough to ensure it was clear i was following the wrong path but with enough hope that i can get better . Anyway there was a reason for it being next year , but you know what , i'm taking your advise and running with it .
Now personally , and i offer this small piece of advice without any malice , i think with your wisdom you should offer your services to RITA/NZTR , and along with Triple A on board i genuinely think the future would be bright . If they turn you down then you could always offer your services as their RA RA team , because you seem on board with every thing and seem so positive about the organisations that have got so much spectacularly wrong , are going to get it all right this time . Although if we go along the lines that they must get something right eventually , well this could be the time . You have clearly seen this and are trying , sometimes futilely , to get us all on board .
Going forward i hope , if i'm not being too presumptuous , i can run any future posts past you prior to posting them . So if it's ok with you to PM you with these i would be honored . I will understand if you feel that is a step too far . If you feel it is better to improve me in public , so be it , i will defer to your better judgement .
Finally , when i showed my wife your post this morning she mumbled something along the lines of " he's a smart man " , so she's on board as well .
    Your student
    Grass hopper

P.S. I feel i should be completely honest with you , my wife's not really on board , when i asked her to clarify her mumble it ends up she actually said " he's a smart arse knowitall , tell him to feck off " , genuinely sorry sure she didn't mean it , i'll talk to her when she gets home . Wife's eh .

I get what your saying but i think where people went to the races with $10/$20 back in the 70s or 80s now they go with $100 + so it has incremented . When they put min spend on over the phone they lost a huge number of punters . Large walks of society still don't have large amount of discretionary spending so for a lot $20 for a day on the punt is still the norm . But the industry set there track on attracting more corporate types with more to spend , did it work ? i'm not sure , but i do know they have lost a lot of small punters . A beach is made up of a lot of small grains . I would lay money they wish they could go back on a few of those decisions .
