Rusty reacted to Red Rum in Australia ABC CHANNEL 7/30 The Final Race
The further onsale after leaving yards  is the problem , after year or two they end up places like Echuca Sale yards with the doggers filing orders  ,  Deposer a Royal Ascot placed horse , ex HK ended up there  and so did a horse called Sahara Sun Chiliean Derby runner up. Both in poor condition  after going through number of hands , the racing owners may have thought been re homed to good place but how do you track them over many years .They were saved I understand from reports many others are not .
How many old broodmares , foals deemed not racing quality etc end up in slaughterhouses or knackeries , it's not just out of racing yards .
Korea have  sent thousands of ex NZ  OZ and other  racehorses to dinner plate over years , it's marked in their register as such . The old chestnut of Singapore retirement plans , Macau etc . If people sell there they know the likely outcome unless they have a return clause and enact it , if they don't know they are willfully blind to protect their own feelings not the horse or accept it as part of the business .
US banned horse slaughter for human consumption,  Texas closed one big plant that exports to Europe , now the poor horses are trucked across border miles to Mexico and Canada over many days travel from feedlots  and meet same fate in unsuitable cattle lorries .
It's a tough one , agree with earlier posts , it must be humane and dignified , the reality is there are not enough homes for all of them from all the outlets racing  yards ,  stud farms surplas etc.
The person in charge of hounds generally   disposes of the old or injured  horses a lot ex jumps horses from the hunt to feed the hounds , the difference is its quick , no travel and in their home area.

What did Dean from RITA say recently? Something along the lines of wanting Trackside TV to be a "continual supply of betting product"? It's bullshit.
The old days of free to air Trackside seemed to have less shit on there, none of this crap from Japan, South Africa and Yonkers etc. And back in the day they had more lead-in interviews with local trainers, jockeys, drivers. Damn sure of it.
Remember the dreamy Jim Smith with his classy mo, glass of scotch on his desk and giving the punters what they wanted to hear for the 10 minutes prior to race start time? Distant memory.
Now instead we have the Wangaratta Dishlickers in the Bob's buthers maiden sprint. Noone gives a flying f.   It makes for boring tv as there is no interest in it. By the time the head honchos that make these decisions wake up, it will be too late.

Try and consider people other than YOURSELF. The judge"s call is still required in many cases, trifecta and first-four punters for example, as they're not always in your precious photo. In saying that, I'd like the photo to be shown, but AS WELL AS the judge's call, not instead of.
No need to announce the sponsor? Sponsors help pay for our decrepit racing scene, and deserve some coverage in return otherwise they'll abandon it like so many owners, trainers and punters already have. We need to be encouraging them, not discouraging them.
Margins? They take two seconds. Why wouldn't you announce them?
And I doubt there's one judge that likes the sound of his own voice, let alone that they're the one making decision on what information they're actually delivering. Are you as impatient with everything else you do in life?

Rodley just asked Craig Grylls is there a chance his horse can turn the tables on Catalyst ... W.T.F .. just think before you ask stupid questions man. They all need someone like their boss to tell them to cease doing some of the silly things when on T.V .. things like Rodley stuttering, stammering and giggling excitedly. Brendan pretty good now, Sweeney just use your brain and stop when judges call happening, stop sighing and pulling faces. Jason Tan seems to have got worse since he came back, he just waffles for the sake of it and makes silly mistakes, then constantly corrects himself by saying " rather " all the time. George moans about the racing folk that criticize, but we are the customer, so maybe listen sometimes, some of it is real.

I wouldn't mind if no judges call was broadcast, IF the photo finish was immediately shown as per a lot of the Aussie races. No judge's call required for Aussie racing.
And lastly, if the judge's call is broadcast, for christ sakes just get them to stick to the basics... no need to announce the sponsor of the race and or margins. Just the numbers. Some judges like the sound of their own voice and make their announcement painfully slow.
    The southland judge is best...
All places confirrrrrmed, firrrrrst numberrrr fourrr... etc

Sweeeeeeeeeeny can you please shut up while the judges call is announcing the placing after the race.I know you love the sound of your own voice but repeating the numbers as the judge is calling is so annoying. Yes we understand english and dont need you talking over the call its beyond a joke FFS cheers BH

Well I must say the Everest doesn't really interest me. All of these new races Sydney is introducing does seem to be detracting from some of their existing races. Some of the long established group 2 and 3 races are attracting fairly small unexciting fields. Throwing money at it doesn't necessarily solve all the problems. The crowds for these big new meetings are still only about a quarter of what they get on each day of cup week in Melbourne.

Hi everyone I ended up submitting about 26 questions to Dean, there were a few I did not submit, but he has said he will get back with answers to maybe half by tomorrow and the balance by the weekend,I really appreciate the time he is taking to do this as he has plenty on his plate, hope everyone here does too.

It’s been a really bad year.    If we had had UMC & Pats Delight in contention it would have so much more exciting.  Very unfortunate what has happened.

Because they are greedy and arrogant.
And don't forget everyone, GST is included in these nomination fees. The GST component within these fees is an awful waste of money.
Auckland Trotting Club don't do nomination fees do they? For their big races. Pretty sure they don't.
Wakey wakey, hand off snakey Addington.

    Question for Dean:
Why are the TAB racing turnover figures not publicly available to the extent that they once were (full disclosure on a weekly basis), when the majority of the racing public have an interest in them? Are they really that embarrassing they need to be hidden?
    Thanks in advance.

    Rusty
Historically in the pure tote only years, turnover was the number one measure of revenue, given the standard deductions made in the various bet types. As customer preferences have shifted more to fixed odds, the number one measure for revenue is now gross betting revenue or in other words what margin or profit we are making when we sell a bet.

I seem to recall M Guerin going over there and reporting back for the harness racing weekly, years ago.
I do know they changed the rules over there, where jockeys must now be at least 7 years old.

Under Estimated loss of revenue : Are you going to bring forward the return of free to air TV racing channel ?  (even if only for NZ racing)
Also the return of hard copy Race books to other retail outlets beside the TAB stores.       As this topic is for question only I have made it straight to the point, however I can offer 1st hand experiences of how the lack of the above are costing our game thousands of dollars

47 South  The TAB have driven a number of innovations in this space with racing now being available on Spark Sport as well as on SKY.'s Trackside. There are active conversations underway to look at having some racing content available on free to air television and also through online media. RITA has been actively working over recent months to support a new punting magazine following the Informant closing, We are hopeful of being able to confirm a new publication in the next month or so.

Well done to the NZ TAB for getting some odds out early for the race. Too skinny for my liking, I won't touch anything, but good on them for trying. They are possibly starting to wake up.
I'd have Thefixer, Spankem, Tiger Tara and possibly Chase Auckland as the horses ahead of UMC at this stage for the Cup. I wouldn't necessarily read too much into the winner of the Hannon, moreso the respective runs of each contender, and their performance within the race.
