  1. Was there a gap along the inside of the leader for Chase Auckland to come through in the home straight, during the Chariots of Fire? I've only seen the head on shot once, and there did look to be a fair gap. I have never driven in a group one event, so not fully qualified to comment. Merely asking the question.
  2. Winning owners of a horse to receive $1,000 if it beats a certain time in a race.
  3. Fully recommend the BGP (Boys Get Paid) website, Facebook group etc. Noone would ever be considered "too old" to join. Although they don't just let anyone join in via Facebook. I recall the BGP "leader", Luke, having his photo taken with an old boy a few years ago. If I recall the story correctly he said the gentleman would often frequent the racecourse with his good mate, they would have a beer, a bet and a yarn. Unfortunately the chap's friend passed away and he had noone to go to the races with anymore. Upon hearing the man's story, Luke took him under his wing, had a beer with him and exchanged a few stories. All part and parcel of the BGP family really. The other thing too, with the BGP is that there is very little negativity. It's positive, positive, positive, and heaps of energy behind the movement. You get a lot of tips and a bit of good oil on occasions too. Not just limited to the racing game either. Although mainly dominated by the thoroughbred code, harness does get good coverage and the BGP hit the Cambridge Jewels pretty hard. Go the lads.
  4. 25 minute intervals between races would definitely help the on-course experience, from a spectator's perspective. Especially during the cooler months. It has been trialled in the past and there were more positive comments than negative. However, the Aussie's would more than likely frown upon it, and would want NZ start times to work around their scheduling.

  6. Most of the BGP gang don't care too much for internet chat rooms these days. They think they all ended soon after the introduction of bookface and twitters.
  7. How about clearing the cache data? Could be worth a crack. I'm no IT geek, but have had success with this process before.
  8. Excellent post. Great comments Greg. I became a member of the NZ Metro Trotting Club when I was 18 years old. After 12 years of membership I stood up at an AGM and asked the head honcho what tangible things had the club done in the past 12 months to try and attract younger people to the races, and what specific plans did they have moving forward to retain younger members of The Met (quite often it pays to already know the answers to the questions you are asking). The silence was deafening, although I think he may have started to slowly choke down! That was my last year of membership with the club and I haven't missed it at all. Probably won't be many members about in another 10-20 years unless drastic change occurs very quickly.
  9. Jimmy, for listening to the rova app, are you using android or iphone? See if you can uninstall the rova app, then reinstall it. This may help.
  10. The NZ TAB give rebates to customers. Can't see why they could not give something similar to the BGP big days out.... or.... maybe just maybe.....
  11. I love BGP! Got the cap, the polo shirt, the lapel pin and had the best time with them at the Cox Plate seeing Winx creating history. And the gang are not all youngsters either.... aye Rdytdy.

  13. He was a smart man indeed, so I would have thought he would have outsmarted Laddies by being successful, but not too successful. Speaking of Ladbrokes, did the NZ TAB offer anything like this....
  14. I see that my post has been edited, and the female trainer's name has been removed. I do not know her from a bar of soap. However I could not let her good name (which is also her username and not hiding behind any other name, which most people do on here) be tarnished. I have a lot of respect for her and other trainers or horse people that come on here to give their two cents worth. Let someone carry on like they have and the site will lose not only credibility but also a lot of good contributors from within the bloody game. I have no further comment, and will not post again on this thread. Rusty
  15. Understood scooby.... sorry about my typo there, didn't realise I hadn't used the correct username for Leo Molloy. So just for the record, the post with reference to ; is that ok in your book? And that is an acceptable standard? Just for point of clarification.
  16. Hey toomanypounds, I have to quote Dennis Conner from '88 here; "You're a loser, now get off the stage."
  17. Dead right mate, and you are definitely not the only one that has, or is, feeling that way. You've hit the nail on the head.
  18. May as well High Sparrow. I fully recommend it. I've put a few of my mates on to Ladbrokes and they haven't gone back to the NZ TAB. I've had a Ladbrokes account for a year now and love it. Site is very easy to use, the odds are more often than not better than the NZ TAB and there are plenty of promos on offer (back a horse for a win, and if it runs second, get paid out as the winner with no decrease in odds. Hear that Petone?), you get to hit the "Odds Booster" button when you like, and can even lay the favourite for most races, as a betting option. My favourite was when they gave away free money last year; Winx at $2 fixed and refunded if scratched.
  19. Very, very sad state of affairs. No problems with Ladbrokes Australia... displaying all their normal info for NZ racing.

  21. Ted's not bad and a good sort. God bless him. Although one thing I would say, is that people always sound better on air when they talk naturally (if every second word isn't "um"), rather than reading from a script. What do ya reckon rdytdy? Anyway didn't talkback radio and internet chat rooms stop in the mid to late 90s?

    Vic Derby

I had a few coins on the Masterpiece and thought the $2.80 was pretty good value. Wasn't disappointed with the driving tactics too much, although immediately after the race I was thinking was that the right thing to do... but when the coin is up in those big races in Aussie, often the driving tactics aren't the norm. I can't blame the driver though, she did what she thought was the best thing to do at the time, and JackSprat is right... hindsight etc. One of those races, where you reverse the run of some of the horses, and you can reverse the result. Credit to the winner though, good horse.
  23. Yes, you are not the first person to say the ole run with the foxes and hunt with the hounds line. It's clearly there to see, however I don't mind Desmond overall. He genuinely enjoys the industry and I think overall he does a pretty good job. It was actually one of his guests from the TAB last Sunday that offered to call me back anyway. Just wanted to know why the TAB app required access to one's media files, storage and some other bloody thing on my cell phone, before I could download the new app. I didn't download it in the end. There are too many creeps around these days, and I have worked in enforcement long enough to know that no industry is immune, especially IT departments! Funny how Ladbrokes Australia never asked for weird permission to perve on my photos on my phone when I signed up years ago. The NZ TAB head honchos are that far removed from reality from the punters it is a bloody disgrace. The staff at the coal face however, are doing an amazing job I found, and they deserve a pay increase, especially the staff at my local TAB.
