THE TORCH reacted to gubellini in Ellerslie track issues
They hocked off the family silver ( the legendary hill) to help pay for this track "upgrade". Where is the accountabilty? Will they bring in a PR Firm to assuage the industry participants?

Selling the Hill was sacrilege. They sold their soul.Â

scooby3051 maybe the Ellerslie club will dish out free fig jam sandwiches to the public at their next meeting.

Probably end up fined like Wayne Walters was per the thread on here last week. Â
Wonder how bad it was comparative to KM night. Guess its much easier to pull the pin on 2 Maidens, a R60 and an R65.

And you know what we will accept it and say it needs to bed in...what a joke...heads should roll but you bet nothing happens a bullshit report will be commissioned and another load of waffle will be put out to placate everyone...but they can throw as much as they want at stakes but it fixes nothing our tracks not  even the new whizzbang ones are not up to scratch ...and sorry but thats a fact....!!!!!!!!

$55 million spent on the Ellerslie track "upgrade". Horses in R3 slipping at the crossing and top of the straight. No horses trained at Ellerslie these days so having problems with the crossing is beyond belief. Obviously drainage problems at the top of the straight?

Agree Blue
The biggest issue is getting folk on course, without BGP the numbers would be thin
Our DNA not like Aussies at all, even the young ones over their flock to the races
Our stupid attempt to âcorporatiseâ racing was a monstrous fail and those that left, like me, ainât returning âŚ.
Big big issues ahead

THE TORCH reacted to Shad in Mark Twain
Would be great to see, obviously very patient owners and want to play the Long. game so to speak, a lot of water under the bridge before the cup, hopefully he stays sound in mean time, but imagine that if he was to win, bred owned and trained in nz, been along time between drinks.

Impressive effort, obviously trained like to be a stayer, and ridden like one, a dying art it seems these days, just pop overseas, and buy a ready made one, seems to be the normal now, just need deep pockets, very deep.

THE TORCH reacted to Pak Star in Weigh In
I watch The Weigh In pretty much every week its on. Cant say I have ever in my life watched it live though. Its always via youtube on a Monday or Tuesday night.  Just the way of the world now isnt it? Hence why the 6pm news shows are going down the gurgler.Â
As for Guerin, I like that he has insider knowledge and speaks to a lot of the trainers to have the most up to date news on where horses are going etc. Something that I would have expected from Leith Innes a bit more as a presenter

THE TORCH reacted to Matanuku Blue in Weigh In
Hey team I think you are being a bit tough on Guerin . .Weigh In is one of the few  NZ racing programs I look fwd to watching.I like Guerin because his knowledge of racing. He is a bit quirky and very enthusiastic. .Maybe Marsh was still feeling the effects of hard out celebrating and thatâs why he was looking like he was.Give Guerin a fair go ,would you rather have popperwell or sweens đ

THE TORCH got a reaction from wph in Cameron George gone
How am I "playing the man"? If we have so much discontent on here about the leaders of our industry how can anyone laud the job that CG has done for NZ Racing??! Or has he never made a poor decision?
If we follow JJ's theory about having to be qualified or linked to some leadership role before criticising their performance then why have free speech? With that criteria no one can come on here and bag a jockey unless they have ridden X amount of winners, no one can question a trainer unless theyve trained X amount of winners, no one can bag an All Black unless theyve worn the black jersey in the past, etc, etc. I dont know JJ from a bar of soap and have simply teased his philosophy that only those above or equal to CM in the administrative world should be allowed to judge him. That to me seems ridiculous as mentioned above. I dont know his credentials but maybe when he pops on here and has a whinge about something he should check if he is "qualified" to do so. Perhaps he is a cross between Lance O'Sullivan and Richie McCaw so will always be right when debating racing and rugby.Â

No nomates - you and I are wrong and JJ is supremely correct. A list of jobs wins according to him. Game changing fact that one. And remember hes the equal of V'Landrys....except V'Landrys runs an entire professional competition (which Cam is in "charge" of one spoke of that wheel) as well as NSW racing which is a smidgen bigger than NZ's industry. We must bow to JJ.

To be honest putting up a list of the positions he has held doesn't equate with meaning he was successful in those roles .
Someone could list the positions that John Allen has held in his career , but it means nothing .Â
Listing people's CV's just proves that the Lazy Susan of executive rolls is too bloody easy to jump off and on , and NZ clearly has a limited pool of capable people to choose from .Â
It's just a bunch of suits playing musical chairs .
