What was the logic in starting at 2:37pm?  There were two hours of racing left when the rain set in.  You start the card at 12:00 to 12:30 and the Lowland winning connections are down the pub by the time it hoses down.

I can't even see where they are going to squeeze the Lowland and the 3yo race , 6 northerners and 5 CD horses , so the northern horses won't want trip down again and run on Sunday or those northern horses in the 3yo race , and to be honest most of the CD horses travel not far less than the northern ones to get to Hastings  . Add the Lowland to Ellerslie on Saturday ? Can't see the CD horses tripping north at short notice .
Possibly the best option is Otaki next Wednesday , still means a trip for the northerners but gives horses a reasonable space before the Oaks , but that in itself is another even bigger trip to Trentham .
I know the solution ! Get the effin tracks right in the first place .
I've been saying this for years , spend the money and get the absolute best track man from overseas here , whatever the cost , we are flush at the moment .

Was a really good idea, scuttling Gisborne/Wairoa in favour of Hastings.

The Lowland is a Wairarapa race, it used to be run by the Masterton Racing Club.

Rain was always forecast today in Hastings so lets Abandon ALL meetings where it might rain why even waste everyones time when the jockeys are going to pull the pin but still get their riding fees
The joke that is NZ Racing

Not really relevant to our NZ situation, but my mate at Gold Coast sent me this yesterday about their new grass track.

By the way, Gold Coast is out of action. After the Magic Millions they top dressed it with sand. However the sand was beach sand and hadn't been washed. Hence all the salt leached out and killed the grass. Two people were sacked for this.  And so they should.
The current plan is to do nothing and pray that the rain we're having washes the salt down into the sand sub layers on the track.
Alternatively they start all over again, for which they have zero budget.

Did happen. Can't find any finished pics only underway but any CD jock will confirm. Commentator and judge's box also had to be done. Not sure if that has happened yet. Good clean up of the stand seating area and a few marquees as you say, could be ready for racing in a week or two. Even put in a few tote windows from memory for the technophobes. Tie ups and yards are good. Extra covered yards were added. Plastic safety rail installed etc. I was on the committee at the time this was agreed with NZTR on the basis it was a training and trials facility but with a view to being able to apply for one raceday once all that was done.l. I think they replaced the old TAB phone!

Maybe Weigh In should do a live broadcast from Ellerslie today to get a report from the jockeys as the trials are taking place. That would boost their ratings and inform us pronto on what is going on.

Sorry Chris but it was not only one stable it was a few...speak to Lauren Brennan..ask her...lets hope the trials went well this morning and the issues can be sorted, if not then its a big issue for the whole industry but to say there is no issues is not factually correct.

While we are on it why did they when they did all the renovations not fix the negative camber on the corner, the developers were told to leave it as it is because thats part of Ellerslie, seems a bit silly ,or is that just me???

A few things jump out from comments on this subject.
Why would you be content using a high stakes meeting as a learning curve?  All tests should have already been conducted and have passed with flying colours.
If all jockeys expressed their concerns that the track was extremely firm, they weren't listened to.
The opening of the track was obviously rushed for monetary reasons, safety took a back seat.
With the way funds have been spent in this instance on a new track surface where the resultant track surface is not fit for a top class race day (not fit for an industry race day to be fair), why would you put more clubs together to consolidate more funds.  You can't escape the fact that we were guaranteed a better facility.  The fact of the matter is we do not have a better facility after much money spent and the use of experts.  Was this due diligence done with closed eyes?  Why did the Auckland club buckle to pressure?

    Exactly.
There were trials on it but, if 14 horses start racecday why were there not 14 horse trials on it?
Filming 2 jockeys in a 4 or 5 horse trial talking the track up was pointless.
Where are Work Safe on all of this?  We don't only want to see Work Safe when somebody dies.  They could also be part of injury prevention.

I also heard the horse that won the Concorde is another one that might not race again, I know he had previous issues but seems a bit coincidental if this is the case...can anyone confirm.
Totally agree HD there is NO independent media anymore ,just talking heads.

You are not going to hear anything critical from the racing media, of the moves made at Ellerslie.
Guerin et al act more like PR merchants than journos. I get that they are partly there to sell the product, but the lack of transparency around what is clearly a significant issue is alarming.

Does some one know whats gone wrong. When given the all clear  The track started with a few horse having a gallop then jump outs followed by serval trails ALL jockeys and most trainers rated the track as the best ever a dream result worth waiting for THEN come race day only a few weeks later its turned to custard !!! were jockeys and trainers gagged by the powers of be from the start by having any negative comments censored

And also be interesting to see what measures are taken - any jumpouts or trials- to consider it entirely safe prior to two big meetings in three weeks.
