Well it is their fault if they are asking for prefferrential treatment. "We will do this.......if you offer that" was in their conversations surely. Isn't there an admin fee involved when joining up as well? Or a slice goes to Kemeys win, lose, or draw? Any information for or against this is welcome. I'd really like to see a rival group take them on and the TAB to create interest. As amusing as it would be to see another group rock the boat, the competitive nature of punters would go on a new tangent.

Still bitter that someone has done well in the ownership ranks and had a very fair argument as to how ridiculous "relative" factors made same horse multis impossible to do. I think he raised over 50 aspects to go against a horse being successful with winning two different races but that wasn't enough. Next time he sorts out breeding combinations he had better use maths to get an even better result eh. Please.
-
You cant tell me they didnt ask! Or do you think they turned up on the day, emptied some money on the table and the TAB supervisor was walking past and said "Hey thats a big bet - have a head start on the odds we are setting". Tui ad in the making right there. And what is wrong with numerous groups getting involved? If its such a great organisation/initiative "the more the merrier" sounds logical doesnt it?? Or is this an exclusive deal that BGP have made with the TAB? Would not surprise me.
-
You know what would be really interesting? If another group set up a rival punting organisation. Or even several new groups. Imagine the hoopla over that? What would the TAB do then? How would they treat each identity? Would they have a bias or not? What would trainers think having to be hounded for the oil from several desperados? I think it would be entertainment in itself. A real-life Survivor series that went from meeting to meeting. How loyal would the BGP members be with new options available? Might cause some unsavoury scenes in the stands as one club out-scores the other. And what percentage would have investments in every group/team? That would say a lot about the type of punters these groups attract.
-
Exactly.
-
Ask him yourself - you attend a lot of meetings dont you? He went to a window...tick. Asked to put on a bet...tick. Got told he could only put on 4/5 of the bet...tick. What part do you not understand? Perhaps that is why it sounds as ridiculous as it is. And unfair.
-
Sounds just like you've been talking to a regular schemer on here. Ask him how one Trackside presenter thought he was "dangerous". Food for thought. I see Don has another good horse in his name - Melb Cup fav and all. Must irk that schemer.
-
Then why do the TAB bend over backwards for them yet punish a single owner/trainer from putting his whole bet on? How is that fair?? (This'll be good)
-
The 5 minute wonders get looked after while a prominent owner/trainer from the CD (who has had more trips to Riccarton than most Cantab punters!) gets penalised for his loyalty. The major reason why the TAB allows favouritism to BGP is because they know they will get all of the coin back! You would have to be pretty desperate and sad to focus punting on such an organisation. To hear them yelp and holler in the stands when really they've only tripled their money is quite ridiculous. And remember that they've had to pay to get into the room that the club has probably let out for next to nothing. Some business model eh.......bluff the weak and they'll arrive in droves. You wont see them making their own trips to race meetings.

Heard the other day that people are being told they can't put their full quota of bets on when on-course! I've heard and seen it happen online, but never at the actual window!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Both occurred at Riccarton - one well-known North Island owner and trainer tried to put $500 ew on his horse and was only allowed half the bet. Jason Myers tried putting $100 on a horse and was only permitted $80. How the hell can this happen when we have a ridiculous set -up like BGP actually get increased odds with their huge punts?? No wonder we are losing our real racing stalwarts.
-
Any truth to the rumour that Sharrock has quickly employed two new staff members immediately beneath him? So much for his brother ranting on that there are too many bigwigs on ridiculous salaries in head office. No surprise though. And wasnt he over the moon to be doing that announcement with Cam George lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
That is so sad. A passionate horse owner - that was so evident in his brilliant posts. We will miss his originality and wise perspective on all things.

Perhaps they should get a major upgrade but remember precious Ellerslie is doing that right now. Ellerslie gets what Ellerslie wants (even if it means carving out the famous hill that put us on the map in terms of world racing!). Dont worry about us South Islanders...we might just go off and run our own industry....be lot better than listening to Wellington. Could also charge a toll gate fee for floats on the ferry just to be like Auckland. Might be used as funding to get Blenheim back into action after those idiots in Welly went with Messara.

So say theres been 20 cancelled meetings in the past year. You cant say that ALL 20 didnt follow NZTR protocol. Its their advice that is the issue!! Remember the Foskett years? Those were the beginning of what we have now. NZTR would have seen the length of the grass -why didnt they saw to mow it? Easy fix - not instructed. Of course Flemington has nice long grass....lets do that....lets be like Australia....theyre the best. Please. Go back 50 years nd do what was done then. Modern tech and strategies have made things worse not better.

Perhaps you should fly down and tell him "face-to-face" like Tim insisted the baggers do when interviewed yesterday. Theres a million conflicting things that can go on with that track, prep systems, local weather, etc and I'll tell you what I'm glad its not my job. You know the real issue? No one has blamed head office for this. Where is the "NZ tracks manager" (or whatever his stupid title is) through all of this? Awapuni wasnt Tim's fault. Wingatui wasnt Tim's fault. Woodville wasnt Tim's fault. I was there Saturday and, although gutted, I was more brassed off at the lack of progress from the tossers in Wellington. Talked to several trainers as well and they said the same thing. I hope this morning's review meeting that they have imposed turns out to be a chance for them to be put under the hammer. Get them on the spot when they least expect it.

Fantastic result - well done team. As for Bevan Sweeney questioning the slow tempo early thats complete bollocks. Those just in behind Light Up at the top and bend were getting a bit of a scrub up while CWJ was in cruise mode. Slightly quicker time than the Guineas too.
-
The real reason why you left is within one of the latest posts on here. Very sad as one had talent and knowledge while the other....well he didnt.
-
Luke is the best and always has proven so. Can anyone remind us why he left again...............
-
Well someone has to do their bit for the jumping game - no other bugger will.
-
Any track in the world wouldnt have held races that day with the rain they'd received. 30 minutes? Bit better than the months that NP had to sit out racing.
-
Exxxxxactly.
-
Hawera will save the day for you all. Quality track. And good to see Riccarton save the TAB today. Best racing in NZ down there.

Unbelievable race and a top ride. Giving the winner a heap of weight. Strode past Flying Agent as well. -
Nothing will surpass Frankel

I am still struggling with the cheesy accolades he received near the end of his first ever Cup week gig. You'd have thought he had split the atom. Totally over done and he had Pops, Rodders, and the like heaping praise on him for calling some races. I never ever saw Reon Murtha get profusely thanked for his 40 odd years of calling in the South Island - let alone 40 Cup Weeks! Thats life today though - no perspective of balanced opinion. Just lauded and over the top baloney.
