fermoy reacted to nomates in It's Boxing Day at Otaki
Cheers but still doesn't help get turnover up , and with expenses up you would think some of that has gone on having enough staff . Surely if you can cover 8 races you can cover 10 . I don't know it just seems like the industry does make it hard for itself .

fermoy reacted to nomates in It's Boxing Day at Otaki
What does servicing purposes mean , and how does this help increase turnover when they are already delivering 8.5 mil less for the 2nd half of the season , i would have thought run as many races as possible .

unfortunately our problem in nz is the 2 goats running the industry cameron and bruce . i would happily chip in to buy them a gold watch to be presented to them if they leave SOON

fermoy got a reaction from nomates in Should we be worried about Awapuni again
Haha . By flooding I mean irrigating copiously early in the week , as opposed to only putting a sprinkle on , to avoid having a hard pan only a few inches under the ground later in the week when the forecasted rain arrives.

“Riccarton is currently undergoing a full turf renovation with all grass being removed down to 30mm, scarifying, sub-soiling and verti-draining,” NZTR’s report confirms"
Whose idea was this CJC's or NZTR?
-
fermoy reacted to Nerula in who over sees the track mangers at nztr
Legs I dont see where it is to be signed off. Everybody trying be vague so at to cover their arse. NZTR have got a not fit for purpose Constitution so to issue threats to clubs who they are in turn answerable to is specious.
So its all nudge nudge and wink. Everyone in this shemozzle doesnt want to take responsibility.
Do you agree the RIU should?
-
fermoy reacted to mr_gee in who over sees the track mangers at nztr
or maybe a nztr track rep doing there job overseeing everything track wise one in north south cd
-
fermoy reacted to Nerula in who over sees the track mangers at nztr
Clearly clubs cant be trusted to assure track safety - on past history. Some are apparently hopeless .
What should happen is a track report template from RIU should be filled in over the preceding week to a race meeting. It should be signed off at the club and counter-signed by RIU.
The template should contain a diary of mowing and irrigation and a map of the penetrometer readings.
The RIU is funded 15 million to ensure Racing integrity and that should start with track safety. Its no good them turning up on raceday and then have jockeys and horses exposed to risk.
RIU should accept their responsibility and pull their weight.

fermoy reacted to nomates in Should we be worried about Awapuni again
You'll have to ask them , but i'm assuming they expected Race to do it considering the on going issues with the track .
Whilst Awapuni's issues are not alone they have long on going issue so i would hardly call it a knee jerk reaction . Awapuni's problems aren't caused by flooding so not sure what that has to do with it .

I think NZTR have just dislocated the middle finger that Race inc kept waving at the industry. 😉

fermoy reacted to tripple alliance in Should we be worried about Awapuni again
Not anymore Roger historically that's correct but not today the place is a swamp for many months of the year the water table in has lifted and just a small downfall keeps much of the surrounding area under water , you only have to check out how many trial meetings have been canned and when they do take place the outside fence is where they all head . Nice thought but not the answer most tracks have no problems in the drier months .

fermoy reacted to chevy86 in AVONDALE TRIALS
Professionally run??--you are bloody joking.Yep, I was there too Edor--about 20 security staff on every swinging gate, all decked out in uniforms and sporting high tech communication devices, and maybe 10 owners! ( I exaggerate, probably identified 5-6). Expecting a robbery of the hot-dog stand were they? Dreadful waste of scarce financial resources. Reminded me of Cup day at Riccarton about 5 years ago with masses of security goons interfering with the passage of respectful patrons.
Racing surface excellent as you would expect in spite of recent heavy rain but you fail to mention the F--Up with the starting stalls that caused a half hour delay when they could not be moved from the 1000 starting position to the 1200 start because of a bent axle?, no doubt because of deferred R&M.((perfect synergy in our bent world).
Apart from the excellent track surface, which to me is the most important thing in racing (looking after our 4-legged charges), the place is a dilapidated disgrace with a myopic governance. (and I apply that word VERY loosely.)

fermoy reacted to Hi Ho Silver in Should we be worried about Awapuni again
The 2016 Boxing Day races were moved from Awapuni to Otaki due to a horse slipping at the Awapuni races on December 17, and the death of jockey Rebecca Black at Gore on December 18. RIU deemed the Awapuni track unsafe and then it was closed for two months for repairs.
Anyone outside of the RACE inner sanctum, or the racing industry itself, would look at the Awapuni situation and would summarise it something like this:-
- Awapuni has obviously been a safety issue for quite some time.
- The RIU/RIB have already seen fit at previous times to close the venue for safety reasons.
- Do you want to keep pressing the point by racing at Awapuni until another jockey is killed?
- Many untruths have been coming out of RACE in the modern era, in a time where there appears to be more than a few conflicts of interest on the Board.
- A contract with RACE is not worth the paper it is written on as they do not honour agreements.
- RACE is seriously in debt.
- Sections believed to be sold in the Kikiwhenua Development will be subject to Resource Consent not obtained before marketing the sections, and possibly unlikely to be approved for a very long time, if at all, yet figures of projected sales are part of the RACE portfolio.
- The real estate at Awapuni is worth a lot more than many other racecourses around New Zealand and town plans for Palmerston North as a city show a residential slant for land right up to and including the racecourse. At what stage will Awapuni become too expensive to race on?
As far as the Eulogy Stakes named in honour of CD based breeding royalty is concerned, another significant race cannot be lost to the north. There is no issue with the availability of a CD venue because there are race meetings on in the area within the week. If northern fillies won't travel down that is just too bad. There should be no problem with a local filly winning this race.

fermoy reacted to THE TORCH in New Plymouth Track Still In Strife.
Its a tad amusing but only because these clubs have curbed things to their way of going in the past and now its all caught up with them. No one wants to see our tracks going to the pack though.
-
fermoy reacted to THE TORCH in Should we be worried about Awapuni again
Heres some advice Bruce. The next time you do an announcement with Cameron George, do it live. And then midway through the presentation call him out as to how bad NZ racing has performed since his arrival over 10 years ago.

fermoy reacted to We're Doomed in Should we be worried about Awapuni again
When the heads roll after this I imagine they would be fairly senior heads. NZTR will have been right on top of this. At Lundy pace Petone is only about 70 minutes from Awapuni,. NZTR knew they couldn't afford any more mistakes, they surely had their best people all over this.

Well there you go… RACE you are an absolute joke at the moment. How’s the tall poppy syndrome going now?? This should bring you to your knees. Instead of doing the right thing after a horse falling over on Tuesday your pride and arrogance got in the way yet again and costing the industry. It should have been transferred immediately as there was no way your staff was ever going to fix this issue. NICE JOB RACE!!!!
