wow I will let macca  know what u said- u can do his form-go forward looking for cover- great option if u can get it-have a go one day when u are drawn on the outside and see 7 or 8 high class horses  in front of you- spose u can say please.  plan 2 run a 24 quarter and press on to the front- another good plan. interesting-

macca has a fear response  ill ask him for you- he goes too the front on Hughie green and gets a boom- goes to last on the orange agent and gets a boom- best if he stays in the middle.

I can tell you one thing if he reads this he pisses himself laughing at you experts so u are wasting your words and so does every other driver in their room-

its not like they ever drive  a bad race they give themselves all the time - even the greatest ever AG has told from  the outside barrier in a class race you must hate your money and the fact you put it on top in the trifecta puts you in the category of a mug punter - the type the tab love when they set the fixed odds-

one of the boys hahaha it would be nice -  the good drivers I should be shining their boots I just try and be fair-  anyone will tell you I aint scared to voice an opinion but  bagging a bloke  as a driver unfairly I believe is not my go-- incidentally I believe the harness industry  runs a good news machine- trackside just tell us everybody is wonderful every trainer is great and every drive is great- reminds me of the PGA tour  blond blue eyed loved god and their families- I much prefer john daly and tiger- so to the extent  u  have a contrary opinion is great- box seat is run as a good news machine as well-

gruff think of another topic so we can have another argument its fun-

how about this one can anyone tell me  why ATC is running 8k stakes this week when I think? we had a promised minimum of 12k didn't Mick Guerin put it in the herald  awhile ago- correct me

too suggest m mck has lost it is ridiculous- in my best bets he drew  the outside.  it looked very difficult on paper and proved so in the running- he gave it e/s on my tv- just too tough a task and   horse probably not as sharp as previously- u must hate your money if you back a horse so short in such a tough race from that barrier- at Auckland he generally runs in 7 or 8 horse fields and gets it much easier.

if u backed it at that odds give yourself an uppercut not the driver.

it wouldn't be too bad if they didn't attract the same penalty as winning a 20k race - and of course u can win a 20k race and not get a penalty-hard to figure.

mike drives the truck for Richard collet in the mornings he rightly or wrongly got soured on the industry  during the  milkshaking era. I keep offering a horse and hope one day he will make a comeback. He was my first trainer and a really great guy and a top trainer- if I need advice which is always Mike can help

he has kept his hand in by siring ANNA and MATT-  Anna had a good career as a junior and Matt is a good amateur driver and of course brother James is a top liner.

Cagy bugger at the start- he was always the last one in and first out.

so its your fault- not theirs - u know the odds beat them then  get square  -   I spose lucky they gave you your money back. I would ask them under what rule they did it - there will be one -hard to beat city hall-

they want the mugs who bet 50k on shorties- they will only be letting that bloke  on  coz they either have him already or even they will figure they will get him.

    Which they will.

I think hayden and warren are in the galloping arm- peter and rogie did well with limited numbers and im guessing rogie scratched an inch and proved he could do it. And he did .

Good luck Peter- has had his ups and downs but won a premiership cant take that away from him

hope kumeu don't go- I have noticed a bit of an upturn recently in numbers there and president roydon downey is a longtime kumeu boy with a  passion for the game and  for  kumeu .

so he will be trying hard not too let it happen.

the only thing I am able to say is that mike godber is a decent person  and  he  runs the joint so if I wanted to know which I don't I would ring him-

he"s never been anything but straight up with me- up to you! prob a good sign that not many  calls wouldn't u say.

I can assure u tasman man is no dope- a prolific owner in both codes of some very successful horses- and can go back to when he helped Gordon  Thompson of show gate fame. a good and knowledgeable punter and  in the past a top sportsman-- has a  great sense of humour.

Astute self made businessman  and a guy who u can chat with for hours and someone who whenever I fluke a win is the first with his hand out.

The industry could do with a hundred gary's. One major fault of course comes from the wrong island.

ye that's right the dustans had golden fox Avondale was a busy training centre in those days  barney meyer had a lot of good ones though not the easiest bloke to get on with  - doug Vincent -mr sovereign babbling brooke - the calverts always had a decent horse- river queen another one

.Ron Langsfordalways had good horses Rebel Isle - Isle of Man with Davina and a myriad of owner trainers as well. They were great days.

Rodger Hinton was a very good trainer with a great strike rate. Bundy Lad probably his best. He was smart he saw the writing was on the wall and did very well in other fields of endeavour.

I was looking through the fence at ellerslie a few weeks ago and though what a shame horses not trained there anymore. It was a good connect for city people to racing same as Avondale - Alex Park.

City kids  have no connection to racing anymore. When I was at Alex Park we had heaps of people coming through stopping - talking- bringing their kids in the morning. Sadly those days are over and wont return.

A lot used to turn up on Friday nights with their kids and I would show them around. Harry the Maori was always their favourite - people wanted photos - to pat him etc- the name must have been the attraction.I still get stopped people asking about him in supermarkets etc- its not always the great horses that strike a cord .

Old folks buses used to come and they would pat the quiet ones. Dear old Norm Holland in his very late years when stricken with dementia used to shed a tear around the horses even in the state he was.

    Times change.

Maybe part of the reason racing isn't a big go anymore. IT isn't  so visible.
Now buildings development etc  . Just the way it is.

tim vince got a reaction from Jazz in Nasal Strips.............. performance enhancing ??
what is performance enhancing - giving a horse water when he's thirsty - nasal strips- I had a horse cool hand luke who was the first to ever wear on in nz. I use them on all my coz for 10 bucks they cant hurt- do they help I don't know. I don't agree they are as good as Lasix-

I have had one bleed  badly  with a nasal strip- my reading says Lasix will stop 99 percent of bleeds- crazy we cant use it here- don't make them go faster but good for animal welfare- remember altitude he prob wouldn't have died-

Lasix can be used 4.2 days out . at least it means u can give a fast work and u don't bleed which means there is no inflammation going into a race. the old line trotted out is they are a mask  dunno about that but in usa where permitted just about all horses race on them - clearly marked in form guides

. not like bute which hides pain  I think Lasix stop bleeding- big difference for animal welfare and safety.

I would have a large bet he didn't as well- had a long talk to him a couple of weeks ago at races- lovely man - staunch - mr sowter well n eil wasn't the only bloke who had a run in with him-

an ex atc president who was  a really solid man got harassed  forever by him and was finally vindicated but only after a long and expensive battle. he  also was on my case from a very early age.
A fella I knew said to him  " u take the W out of Sowter and u have " sour"  gave all the boys a real laugh. All except him of course-  the race course coppers have a job to do  but some have respect and some have nil- I can vouch for that.

hope neil gets a winner or 2. I will be cheering him.

Did anyone go ?- I couldn't make it- what was the result?

Did they bow to the pressure of the ATC board.

Given they have used bully boy tactics on Kumeu and Thames and told them they cant race at Alex Park unless they take over their assets  they might have folded under the pressure.

I don't see how refusing clubs permission to race at Alex Park helps anyone.

I wonder if HRNZ has any opinion  of ATC board tactics-

Mind you   given  the board must be smart coz they wear suits and get paid  to be directors it is probably wrong for the rank and file  to question them.  They must know everything-.

The suits have been presiding over harness racing for quite a few years now and as everyone in the games know we are flying except for declining turnover - declining ownership, declining stakes(in real terms) and decline in horse population and declining attendances- other than those minor topics they have done good!
