my mate had a horse racing at awapuni yesterday ran 3rd- as soon as race was over  and the last horse pulled up it went to some meaningless ad praising somebody or something-

I just switched to coronation st- or emmerdale farm or  harry meets lucy.

overall we have to be thankful for what they provide - but I think you need a racing brain to oversee the post race  production side of things- do they have one?

just looking at Auckland programmes feb 19thraces 10 11 12 all have preferential draws for fillies and mares . WHY?   they are class races.

If the Orange Agent was lining up  in race 12  c4 and faster  1700 mobile pace it would draw inside  say an old whacker of mine celtic warrior.  Interesting.

in r11  a c 3  mare drives inside a c2 colt  . Are breeders running the show-- we know of the influence in gallops?

I think to keep public confidence restrict the use of the whip to say the last 150 and then anything goes-I think the public perception of over use of the whip is not as big as some would believe.

at the moment there is no differential between an Anthony butt haymaker and  murray Edmonds  hitting the shaft .both get the same treatment when it comes the number that is counted. I think in a whip charge the vet should inspect the horse for marks etc

I don't think there is preferential treatment-

no I just mean those horses have no place to go so wouldn't be in work - I think am races should be races of last resort - shouldn't hinder pros juniors etc etc but the facts are Cambridge couldn't get 10 last night and Auckland wont run ams and they don't have to, but over the last 12 months struggle to get 8 decent size fields so here an idea - make the ams the last reserve races and if they cant get 10 run one. if they can bad luck boys and girls-
lets go through my team ( that's with respect to real trainers)

celtic warrior- more problems than the rugby league player who likes dogs-  vets drive flash cars coz of him- kyle marshall has recently won 2 on him

Hadrian  owner is am driver  not good enough to pay training fees for but she does most of the work- vets farriers feed salesman and if u look a couple of starts ago provided a battling junior with a drive that he was happy to get

atomic falcon oh dear no ability really but happy without it  up until last week owned by am driver- generated training fees and filled up a few claiming races- no ams I don't what ?

shards phoenix-  just bought for am races but okay in weak company - but probably would have been exported - one less in the system coz even doingit myself is not a paying propositon
just getting charming desire for am driver who will come and drive every day- fill up the claiming races his probable life- so a pro will get a fee but I can assure it is unlikely a winning one. also if one of the juniors needs a drive at Auckland can have a steer

kd hall trotter done gr8 job hit his mark and very expensive to run as per  the kardashians

kd commando  the boomerang had 3 homes and gets told up and sent home so in work.

the point I am trying to make is the 5 pacers would not be in work but for the existence of amateur races and guys like jack mackinnon kyle marshall  and other would miss out on drives( I must admit not prime cattle)  but there are another 25 ish horses like this in work  in north the industry can benefit from in many ways that wouldn't be in the racing population.that is a fact -

hardly any of those horses can compete in their grades to any decent effect so there only out is claimers or am races-some people don't want horses in claimers as you can see by the  size of the fields when they get off the ground - those horse are entitled to a shot at some cash so the non tote argument wont work.

so how about that - races of last resort just to help a club fill a 10 race card- and I am pretty sure if Auckland would run them and only put up a 3k stake when they couldn't get a  full programme  a full field would happen- make it the last race - not a quaddie treble pick 6  and if u want to go to bed not watch them not bet on them deny their existence u can.

as per the drive last night - I did me dough and blew up like u guys but there was another to lose to back 20minutes later and soon forgot it- its called racing- I like it hate it but it will be there tomorrow.

the suspension wasn't excessive it was only 8 drives  15 often comes into play difference is pros get that in 3 days-personally and Cherie helps me  I think we got off light
now im no bum licker but the stipes and the jca were trying to help as well as punish-   punters have to have confidence in the system and it works well generally.
    - Cherie will bounce back she is no dope but got caught in the headlights- tomorrows fish and chip paper- show me the sportsman who don't make a mistake- if you sit on your arse and don't put yourself out there life is safe but some of us don't want to live like that- I recently had my first boxing fight  - daunting and lot easier sitting in the crowd -  but it was awesome( afterwards)

all drivers jockeys put their lives at risk whenever they get on a horse we have seen tragic consequences give them a break- no jockeys  or drivers no racing- I personally admire every jockey and every driver since I have been out there-

they could get their pr men  Mick or Duane to report the trackwork on their website . breakfast with the stars or in the case of mine breakfast  with the mutts. Public could talk to trainers drivers and a jolly good time had by all. track closes at 7 or 7.30 on the dot and everyone could go about there business. Make way for the masses who want to see the blues train- from what I saw they didn't get writers cramp signing autographs last week
might see a spike in crowds etc at least give the horseman and public a chance- I had a mate who lived in manukau road and I invited him to the trots and he went to ellerslie.

funny but not funny really - there u go John put up an argument against that

I repeat give trainers one shot a week early in the morning so they can use the track the race on that provides a great surface- if the answer no I can only conclude racing is not a priority to the board the ceo and the racing boss and I am sure that is not true- well not completely sure- well unsure- well it could be- maybe not?

if it was well known and  if Lloyd ran a black board informing what horse were out on the trqack working togetheretc etc might get a little crowd and they could have breakfast at the park.

Alexandra park is the th e best trotting track I have seen - track good. ,facilities none bette., barn wow and its proximity to the population is obvious- the apartment development is essential to trotting's viability.

the only thing I would change is demolish the blues gym and have a world class stabling facility where say100horses could be trained-which would mean the club have ready access to a horse population, owners could easily have access to their horses etc.  Go to Happy Valley in Hong Kong a more vibrant race track you  will never see. Shatin where all the horses trained the same.
menangle .whats the average attendance there ?

All sports are TV sports these days  but it doesn't mean they cant be both though we will never get back the glory days

. Anybody who bags the apartment developments aint right in the head - any arguments re what block should be built first who should build etc etc I have no idea but I don't want to keep racing for peanuts and the best way trotting in the public eye is to have it right where it is .

I wont bore you why we need tote  races it has be gone over and over except to say guys like me would have none in work instead of 7 and all the other associated benefits like Cambridge having one less race on their programme last night pros getting heaps of drives on my horses etc etc.

I dislike greyhound racing - I don't bet- there are a million races a week to bet on, go to any TAB and watch betting on terrible Australian gallops races with d grade riders.
    like a tv programme - if u don't like it - read a book.

all the people who backed Elliot Daniel would have been cheering-

cheree's drive was terrible she was the first to acknowledge it   but there were circumstances and I had to shoulder some of the blame  she   gets the top and if she wins shes a hero.

given its previous history hard to believe the 1 horse was going to over race like it did- as soon as it did you are caught between a rock and a hard place.
    - racing is not like rugby no second chances- rugby u drop the ball and then score a try  its all forgotten - same cricket  golf etc- hit one in the bunker and get up and down same result,-
she got a very fair hearing and the penalty could have been worse- but just remember in here first drive heaps of punters were cheering her on when she got the fav home.

get over it. I should point out the growth of amateur driving in the last 10 years is about the only thing in both codes that has grown.

You can bleat on all you like but it aint going to change and if it does me and plenty of amateurs will get graduation licences which we would get in a heartbeat and then u will have something to blow up about - watching me draw 1 and mango and tony would have me 4 wide after a 100 metres.

Its could gambling- better than betting on tennis we are all trying.

crossings are more of a worry to the punter so many gallop over them- never been able to figure out why they cant be bought to the level of the track- I don't think grass or grit is any difference for horses- if u have a tendon problem like a few of mine best not to line up on a soft tack. when they say grass horses I think it is more like horses aint good enough to be competitive at  alex park addington.

if u think the top 100 trainers are doing okay on40-50 day  I cant agree- there are economies of scale-  staff is the biggie I would say top 10 trainers might do okay but I would  guess the principal reason is that if you have big numbers and big owners u probably have a better quality horse which get sold.
The trainers 10 percent on a sales would be significant -
also a big stable if you are a driver as well like purdons herlihy   etc u get a good income from driving fees as well.

top 100 not a hope in my view- have a look at the premiership tables who was 100th last year - look at the stakes earned  .Also if a battler want to get more horses he inevitably has to take shares in horses or do deals- generally a good way to lose money.

kumeu aint broke- I think we have to be careful shutting down tracks as once u do  the training facilities go forever.

then the supply of horses to race gets smaller. I  think we need more meetings not less but if we are going to do so handicapping etc has to change. the Tuesday meeting at Auckland was great just not enough on them-

it aint easy this rationalisation thing- when u see the  huge crowds over xmas at these country meetings it makes u think.  As i said before 6000 at pirongia beat up Auckland' s cup day- it gives people a connection to harness that will be lost even if they are only once a year racegoers.

I must admit I find myself mostly agreeing with u John Ryan- sticks and stones hahaha. if I don't get attacked a few times at the races I get quite hurt.
Mind u an ATC board member recently threatened me physical injury which I didn't mind but probably bad form for a board member- If you or I did it u get in serious bother- oh that's right  I got a couple of years for a nasty email. Don't matter whats done is done . Best looking forward not back if we are going to improve things.

I see Auckland have  dinner with the blues promotion-hope it better than the crowds that go to their rugby games. They are trying to be fair.

so trotting north of the bridge would be finished so that is the reason why kumeu won't amalgamate john as you well know.

I would have thought u would want every horse u can get- the c0 trot wouldn't have happened on Friday so 7 races and less than 60 horses would have been the meeting. why not put some of the millons I hope u make from the property to updating the facilties there build some barns and encourage trainers to go there as well-

pukekohe hasn't been the  magnet for new trainers  so far.

offer a south island trainer some barns at kumeu would be a better option than closing down- increase the horse pool

instead u want to get your mitts on the kumeu money or assets like u did at pukekohe and so far if the fields at Auckland are anything to go by the expansion doesn't seem to have worked

    - allright for u with property track and money what about the little guy - is his day over? do you want it to be over.

too suggest m mck has lost it is ridiculous- in my best bets he drew  the outside.  it looked very difficult on paper and proved so in the running- he gave it e/s on my tv- just too tough a task and   horse probably not as sharp as previously- u must hate your money if you back a horse so short in such a tough race from that barrier- at Auckland he generally runs in 7 or 8 horse fields and gets it much easier.

if u backed it at that odds give yourself an uppercut not the driver.
