  1. they do seem to have a solid and reputable background- don't get me wrong I want this to be a success but I do have reservations- some haters want this to fail that is different from not agreeing with all of it. I can tell u going to Cambridge and running third and getting net about 300 bucks is not good for the industry long term I hope to be in it for a while.
  2. ye that's right the dustans had golden fox Avondale was a busy training centre in those days barney meyer had a lot of good ones though not the easiest bloke to get on with - doug Vincent -mr sovereign babbling brooke - the calverts always had a decent horse- river queen another one .Ron Langsfordalways had good horses Rebel Isle - Isle of Man with Davina and a myriad of owner trainers as well. They were great days. Rodger Hinton was a very good trainer with a great strike rate. Bundy Lad probably his best. He was smart he saw the writing was on the wall and did very well in other fields of endeavour. I was looking through the fence at ellerslie a few weeks ago and though what a shame horses not trained there anymore. It was a good connect for city people to racing same as Avondale - Alex Park. City kids have no connection to racing anymore. When I was at Alex Park we had heaps of people coming through stopping - talking- bringing their kids in the morning. Sadly those days are over and wont return. A lot used to turn up on Friday nights with their kids and I would show them around. Harry the Maori was always their favourite - people wanted photos - to pat him etc- the name must have been the attraction.I still get stopped people asking about him in supermarkets etc- its not always the great horses that strike a cord . Old folks buses used to come and they would pat the quiet ones. Dear old Norm Holland in his very late years when stricken with dementia used to shed a tear around the horses even in the state he was. Times change. Maybe part of the reason racing isn't a big go anymore. IT isn't so visible. Now buildings development etc . Just the way it is.
  3. there is an Auckland civitas who are planning consultants easy to google. seem very reputable .
  4. terry alcock still going well in his nineties lovely man - golden fox was a good little mudder who liked to lead
  5. john u are being silly now hrnz will get u sectioned- ive told u stop using your brains and talking sense - next stop the funny farm.
  6. whatever not easy but I still like mr greens handicap system an don't know why they wont adopt it- if it don't work do but gotta have a go- problem with shorter cards is that they make money opening abeer and don't want to send everyone home too early
  7. john u are going to have to stop talking sense harness authorities and the tab wont be able to understand you-
  8. everyone struggles to get drives when only 72 starters- I agree with junior claims though.
  9. 81 acceptors close to 70 starters u can give all the spin trainers wont race at Auckland for what reason I don't know- my view why be cannon fodder with say a bad c1 against horses who run really quick- the club needs to have their own handicap system like the one u propose . No one is going to turn up just too have a runner when they no they have no chance of being in the money I am sure you understand that. as a former trainer who has had a lot of experience in Australia u can understand that
  10. I don't have an agenda against board as far as racing goes- I supported YOur handicap system which as I recall you said if you didn't get it through u would resign. it was very good what happened ? john evans have no idea who he is but it is hard not too agree with hIm nearly all the time. I support the board trying to secure the future of trotting I just question whether they are doing things in the best interest of the game and don't know if gambling alex park's future on a huge project is right. I have seen too many developers go bust and I am not sure we have the expertise on the board- I do hope they are successful- why wouldn't I. My pathetic little current dispute with the board doesn't mean I want them to fail that would be childish-I could never understand if the apartments were going to be the thing that saved the club why we would want to be involved with the blues without I am told no guarantee from the nzrfu seems ludicrous- . but I do wan all the projects to succeed Bigger stakes I want em.
  11. I would have a large bet he didn't as well- had a long talk to him a couple of weeks ago at races- lovely man - staunch - mr sowter well n eil wasn't the only bloke who had a run in with him- an ex atc president who was a really solid man got harassed forever by him and was finally vindicated but only after a long and expensive battle. he also was on my case from a very early age. A fella I knew said to him " u take the W out of Sowter and u have " sour" gave all the boys a real laugh. All except him of course- the race course coppers have a job to do but some have respect and some have nil- I can vouch for that. hope neil gets a winner or 2. I will be cheering him.
  12. im a member can I come to the park and look at the plans
  13. or maybe the board have taken their off the ball and forgotten about racing - just a silly though I had-- do u know last Fridays turnovers for their biggest night of the year. beef should be trespassed for being a mark purdon supporter.
  14. prob better than a few gallop syndicators around buyer beware if it is too good to be true it probably is. now I have a slow unraced qualified maiden 50 share 10k a share and 100 a week. hahahaha
  15. I don't think many will want an apartment similar to the ones in wan chai - u bought a few off the plans .? maybe he was talking about standing as president then.
  16. what is performance enhancing - giving a horse water when he's thirsty - nasal strips- I had a horse cool hand luke who was the first to ever wear on in nz. I use them on all my coz for 10 bucks they cant hurt- do they help I don't know. I don't agree they are as good as Lasix- I have had one bleed badly with a nasal strip- my reading says Lasix will stop 99 percent of bleeds- crazy we cant use it here- don't make them go faster but good for animal welfare- remember altitude he prob wouldn't have died- Lasix can be used 4.2 days out . at least it means u can give a fast work and u don't bleed which means there is no inflammation going into a race. the old line trotted out is they are a mask dunno about that but in usa where permitted just about all horses race on them - clearly marked in form guides . not like bute which hides pain I think Lasix stop bleeding- big difference for animal welfare and safety.
  17. glen tells me he saw rennel on Saturday he would like me to convey that to mr green as he has no race café access at home- what was he talking about- a discount as a member to buy an apartment is my guess.
  18. 3 northern meeting in 5 days - Auckland has best stakes by a furlong yet the lowest number of horses why is this?

  20. nice article in the SS times. One of the great guys- always keen to help me. When u see the effort and rewards it makes u shake your head. I get even more filthy when a couple of board members at the ATC say " we are sick of subsiding trainers and they shouldn't get 10percent of the stakemoney." Really! Some would say - not me of course -that the members shouldn't subsidise you to the tune of about 10k a year for your services. A prominent Cambridge trainer told me he did the numbers for a month- his hours and return and worked his pay out at 6 dollars per hour. Anyway Tony good luck and u have dome a great job with Shaun- he is a great kid -.
  21. one of the great characters Lennie Goord has passed away in Malaysia- far too young
  22. yes Lloyd I doubled up with my 2 at Cambridge when the noms were tiny to help the club- my 2 are in a big field so no damage to the club. - I will line up celtic warrior if he come through tonights run good- given they will probably both be retired after this I couldn't see the harm- nowhere suitable to train them. The silly thing is with a vengeance will get 28 day standown- cant be bothered lying and getting a vets certificate- makes sense standing horses down when they are short NOT! . Anyway my vet bill this months is over 2k for 4 horses why give them more.
  23. disappointing fields- only 8 and the money is good- with the meeting spread over less than 4 hours I would guess the food and bar takings will suffer. double up with Cambridge not a help- why wouldn't there be a 2 or 3 days between and horses more likely to back up.
  24. Did anyone go ?- I couldn't make it- what was the result? Did they bow to the pressure of the ATC board. Given they have used bully boy tactics on Kumeu and Thames and told them they cant race at Alex Park unless they take over their assets they might have folded under the pressure. I don't see how refusing clubs permission to race at Alex Park helps anyone. I wonder if HRNZ has any opinion of ATC board tactics- Mind you given the board must be smart coz they wear suits and get paid to be directors it is probably wrong for the rank and file to question them. They must know everything-. The suits have been presiding over harness racing for quite a few years now and as everyone in the games know we are flying except for declining turnover - declining ownership, declining stakes(in real terms) and decline in horse population and declining attendances- other than those minor topics they have done good! timvince
