he wasn't let off after 6 months he did his sentence- that was a long time ago - and I can assure you he wouldn't care if u back his horses don't trust him etc- do you ever have bets on any other trainers who have had disqualifications or fines- stick to your convictions by all means but I am not really sure what they are when it comes to the Purdons- he is the most tested trainer in history if you are insinuating he is a drug cheat- he aint - he is just too good - that's the long and the short of it and his success has bred more success-something wrong with that? ask anybody who has worked for him and they will tell you his work ethic his attention to detail and his total commitment to his horses- I am not an apologist for mark and his team far from it but sometimes you need to recognize greatness.

I can tell you a trainer I know was having a lot of success with a certain style of training and Mark Purdon was the only one who rang him and quizzed him about it.It sort of tells you something don't it. Most of the rest of the harness fraternity called this bloke a cheat. He wasn't. We could let him have only horses in a the group races that cost less than 10k or they had to be driven by Sheldon or make them tow a concrete slab behind them - We should bar Robert Dunn at the same time because he don't sit on his arse and moan he tries to tackle him head on. And don't forget Dexter he shouldn't be allowed to drive horse that are paying less than 20 bucks- even things up. next bettors delight has to go coz he is a champion stallion and some people cant afford to breed or buy one. Ungrateful bastards not wanting to be a whipping boy for those horses. nope handicapping fine- oh by the way I have an open class trotter waiting to smash Monbet and Speeding Spur----- K D commando- 10 year old broken down 3 times and given away as a hack 3 times. bring it on. nope handicapping is fine. I remember showing Maurice mckendry a racing annual- he said not interested in races that have been run- I think many of the board (not all) are imposters but it is what we have. I think a couple need to look at their past involvement in harness racing and ask themselves if they are suitable board members. some desire power nothing more! BUT looking forward is our only option so recriminations of the past don't help and I have plenty- my only wish is the ATc pay more attention to their core business harness racing- it is ugly- all the awards in the world havent changed that. Worse still there are blokes out there Terry Quinn Cameron Mackie and many more that could help address the racing . Robert death another that comes to mid. Kerry Wells, carey hobbs etc etc. please no one from HRNZ though. Not the u beaut experts who rate themselves .! ohokaman I have a fair idea who you are time to bury the past- I know it aint easy. I have people at the ATC who I hate ( and I mean hate) but it wont help. Three or four who I wouldn't blink if they taken by aliens and we never saw them again. I agree but what is the reality- I like having to have the hands on the reins at all times -but we have to confront it and now edward has bought it up it has appeared on stuff. I think we can work things to our advantage and go the hands on the reins and get some one like Mark Jones to endorse that if he will. Break the rule and disqualification mandatory- then we will be seen as good citizens- I think racehorses are the best treated animals in the world but try and tell that to the animal rights people-- like telling isis that democracy is good.

I keep using the word hope- that's what it comes down to. we have guys like Guerin telling us what is good for us but he has little or no investment in the game turns up only occasionally to the trots and tells me I have to wear suit- really- and to all the other experts ???like him. poooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Does ATC ever question why a cheap meeting at Hawera can get full fields of even racing but they cant. ?

I think he needed an excuse to give up- he seems a vey intelligent man who wanted another life- military historian etc racing is a one way path for many and they cant get off the train- it might be for the best. hopefully he has a stack of dosh and can enjoy his life.
