  1. I had a coffee and widdled in the bottle yesterday - all good- I do think these things should be left to run their course. lets hope cwj is all good. marvellous rider for so long
  2. any comment on his run today -
  3. john and Robert trying to get the best return for their owners- heads up to them
  4. midget u are exactly right given it stays in your system a very long time - meth much worse goes out very quickly. he has been a great rider and still is- easy to point the finger at a public figure- most peoples private lives never get exposed in a public manner- slap on the hand enough I reckon.
  5. u can by tomahawk at the sales in a couple of weeks time
  6. of course it was- the rule is simple re notifying horse movements- don't make a big deal of something that aint- and does it really make a big difference- well done jay Andrew and all concerned. it is a matter of trainers helping each other to place the horse well- jay is a gr8 fella leave it at that. he would be taking instruction from Andrew.
  7. the thing I can understand is they have smart guys setting the prices from what I have heard- if the prices are correct they should be prepared to take the swings and roundabouts .its all about the long game. the long game with their vig means they will win. also most times I understand the big bets go in early? so they have time to balance the book. mystifying
  8. all the smart punters in the world are computer geniuses and maths freaks- lots of them have never been to a racemeeting or know any horse- just numbers and odds- suggest u google alan woods punter-true genius- worked for him for many years and still do for the team he created- along with bill benter the smartest horse betters the world has ever seen
  9. they are spending plenty on pr spin- I can only imagine what the traffic is going to be like, bad enough at moment- spose that's Auckland-
  10. I heard a 5k bet yesterday at 5 - it would have helped them balance the book as it was said the race would still be a winner if it won- ran 2nd- would that be true
  11. bruce you are very hurtful but that is one of the correct things u have said- how many winners have you driven again??
  12. are you for or against the development- ? me personally thing we need it to be a raging success-if racing is going to be viable at the park long term- I guess the only bad thing that can happen is an external influence gfc- war china goes tits up otherwise with the state of the Auckland real estate market it would take very bad management not to be a success financially. if the figures I have been told by real estate agents are correct the market went up 19 percent last year- and still rising in city areas . of course it is well known my views that the ATC has relinquished racing as its main priority but that has nothing to do with this development. however I am sceptical about some of the good news stories we are being fed by the club.
  13. competition in nz is the answer- the average jo blow don't want to bother betting offshore- a funny thing happened a few years ago - a punter kept backing born again Christian a horse I owned 5k a time- they trawled through the videos suspecting me and of course it wasn't- they let the guy bet on and on as he did a fortune- you would think that the tab would let anybody on for what they like especially on the short ones but obviously not. I know you are right re stopping guys bet - it happens here in Auckland .THERE SHOULD BE LEGISLATION as they are a monopoly- they must stand anyone to win say 10k. Another funny story was when I was in Australia- we had top tempo in a breeders crown heat- we went to the races at ballarat or bendigo and my mate wanted 5000 at 8's on top tempo- the bookie laughed and said u can have 50 and come back later and u might get another 100 on. so it happens everywhere- top tempo won hahaha. I never have bet big amounts preferring multiples but when they pools sizes were decimated virtually gave up. the true bookies like bert clapham paul Bellingham and others who operated in the old days took anything-though I think they limited the quinella prices to 100 and win 30. the tab do what they like when they like how they like-why because they can.The authorities are worried about leakage- not hard to figure why it happens.
  14. some punters they may I don't know don't bet big or much anymore or know enough about it but I can tell u I got on for more than 2k no problem and my mate backed a horse in used to own in aussie and won 2800 for 100- I have no doubt overall you are right- profiling in all gambling is huge but it probably depends on the hold- wouldn't competition be great that is what we are lacking. my girl got 6k off kd commando a little while back again on course but I followed her in - she got 300 at 21's and they offered me 6 I minute later. I was dark I can tell u.
  15. all the dosh is at 2 and 3 -may hay while the sun shines. like you I remember the greats . I think it is true in galloping as well- get them going win what u can and sell for the big dough to asia. I cant see anything changing too much. with the costs compared to stake money you can understand owners wanting early goers. One of the problems in harness as well isas soon as a good one comes the aussie and usa chequebooks come out. those who u mentioned boy it made going to the races exciting didn't it. now mostly ho hum. me and mates used to have big arguments who was better than who- Arapaho manaroa royal ascot those are three that come to mind.delightful lady hands down etc etc. rivalries are great- it could have happened monbet and speeding spur bugger- in the gallops side we had things like shifnal chief -oranmore- me and my mates had some blues over those two.
  16. gonsta u are right I walked into a tab on Friday and got a bet on to win a lot more than2k on kd hall a place- at 11's took very liitle time to approve- whats more mates got the same 11-1 quote a place for some time after in amounts to win about a k or less and still got it up to race time. I don't use an account but another mate got 100 on one in aussie at 28's that won. no doubt they restrict bets but not to 2k
  17. easy way charge a scr fee of 100- no one wins standing down horses owners drivers punters clubs
  18. mr piper the reality is that it is 100 dollars a week more than they are getting now per starter- out comes drivers fee etc . so if your horse starts 20 times a year u are in for an extra 2k- and it doesn't cover premier meetings I don't think. 20 times is a lot of starts way more than the average horse will race . 2k extra will not change an owners life. it may affect Cambridge big time and also encourage trainers to start in races where a horse has no show. the pr spin said they were bringing the date forward. they never had a date so how can they bring it forward. its intital timing in February was to bolster the yearling sales - quite a few board members had yearlings to sell. not a coincidence . .the whole 400 should go to the owner- it is their product the club is using to garner revenue- I bet u don't get extra money for turning up to work. Nor should trainers- the club could offer trainers a 50 dollar and 20 dollar meal voucher petrol voucher if they have a horse competing at the park. Thats enough. if stakes go up considerably maybe it could be revisited but generally I am against trainers getting as much as the owner which is the reality of this bonus system. atc has done so good things stake wise and bonus wise but this needs to be rejigged so the owners get the lot. a smart young trainer should advertise on he basis that he will pay the owners the 150 back -
  19. bruce passed away today after a long battle with poor health- real good fella and a dab hand with a trotter-
  20. mile racing anywhere in with big fields means a lot of horses are out of the race from barrier rise.i think the concept has been great but might be a good idea to maybe consider small changes- I think addington and Auckland have enough good races- its like taking warriors to new Plymouth - it gets huge support. trouble in the north if we want all weather tracks we only have Auckland Cambridge and palmerston. it might grow the sport if we went to palmerston and have 2000 metres or limit the fields to 8 and try a mile. but as I say Cambridge try their guts out against the odds- cruel to take it from them
  21. there was a lot of talk around last night you would want the track to be a lot better if it rained on the day than it was last night. I have faith in Cambridge to do the job good secretary good committee - lets hope for a great day
  22. hes on kd hall this week but I am one who is loyal to drivers and usually keep the last on- jack couldn't go to Cambridge last week- todd Mitchell drove him so he stays on. jack on kd commando for me this week couldn't go to manawatu too busy working with robert,- kyle marshall is one I use but he had to drive another - he has to wait till someone gets off - todd McFarlane helped me out at the trials bug time so he drove shards phoenix- cant put everyone on but if there is no reason to boot a driver they keep the drive- the employers of juniors should always try to put one in the junior race for their own boys. I don't have a junior but I would guess percentage wise I put them on more than anybody.why I remember what it is like to be young- they need a chance- u guys are good to your boy I applaud you for that.He is going real good. some trainers just have boys for cheap labour. I would be happy to put any driver on- u go In the drivers room at the park and you could throw the colours to anyone and get a good job.Even u- hahahaha talk to mr smith re scrapping juniors not my field.
  23. wow tpo helped but massive
  24. I would like to see every race under say 10k to have a junior claim as a condition- gives trainers to drop their horses back a grade and give the boys a shot.
