  1. the cox plate wont be a yawn to me- neither the cup- maybe if you dont look at it from a betting point of view but for the greatness of the horses . and the occasion
  2. its quite funny really when u hear the explanation- all the trolls are having a go but im hoping??? to have the last laugh. hoping anyway
  3. brodie email me ill tell u the real truth in confidence
  4. ive been called worse Scooby - his employers probably wish he would not say things like this- is stunning shadow available for sale stew - seriously better than sitting in a paddock- will give u 3k for it.
  5. isnt the answer we have to help ourselves- have people in clubs etc take the news to them-for example the atc could have some one keeping tv herald etc up to speed on whats going on.maybe a committee man make a trip to tv 3 every week and keep them updated- I rang steven stewart re montes and he couldn't coverit quick enough.give the press the news don't make them search for it- same as radio go and see radio sport and ask for a slot and tell them whats going on.have to help ourself in this environment- for example nz trotting cup coming up - give them a weekly update what is happening arrange an interview with dexter dunn - ask him his perspective whats going on- not on trackside- mainstream radio tony veitch etc- we are not trying hard enough
  6. aint it great - we all want one--I don't think it matters the nz cup might be down on numbers- some great horses I had one in it- ran 4th an age ago and that was a great thrill. things change next year there might be ballots. only 8 in cox plate probably- wont distract from the great race.
  7. hi stew rat ashwoth narkgardener mattusie at the atc . bagging the amateurs again- no different to usual - I believe you were failed amateur and got jealous of those who worked our asses off and did well. as I recall you were pretty hopeless. I suggest u should wait for the result of the hearing instead of making a personal comment against Sheryl whom u dislike intently- u hate successful people. it might be the fat lady hasn't sung yet- ive never threatened to go to aussie- more run at kumeu.trained a few more winner than u and your mate dm in the last few years.would have loved to have got hold of stunning shadow I saw 5 or 6 wins in it properly handled. fyi ive retired kd hall coz he is too harshly handicapped- no big deal. not blaming any one.just sold one to aussie 50k don't need to go there. u used to go on the central circuit and had some close friends down there . what happened. why don't u put whatever money u have where your mouth is- take away the amateurs brodie cambride had 8 races- u don't have to bet on them.of course if they stopped another race going ahead I would agree with u. salesh is a bit of fun and cops it and takes it- u are a nasty person- hows wendy
  8. thoroughbred rules re whip are different to harness- frank phelan I think got fined 300for 12 hits beaten a head. I guess the rule is the rule . like any other sport u mightn't like it but u have to adhere to it I saw Richie mcaw arguing about a decision plenty of time but the ref didn't make the rules. so where does the"blame" lie. who made this rule- im not sure. . from what I can see the last 2 were very light flicks last night.. but we must remember the stipes police the rules the jca acts on the rules. they are just doing their job.i don't agree with the whip rules but the people who made the rule are the only ones who can change it. the horseman .trainers can make submissions I guess - the real beef I have is that is about animal welfare- I cant see that hitting the shaft or hitting the dust sheet hurts a horse yet that is counted. no one I know wants to hurt a horse.why would you. perception we are told- I thought it should be about facts.
  9. hsvman there is a job going as a assistant stipe u should apply- why don't u let them do their job then have a go. see what the hearing brings.
  10. every form of gambling is declining - poker machines don't use whips- read the atc annual report. just saying.
  11. there is more to betting than win - fixed odds. the treble pools quinella are dead. I can tell u the real pros in hk japan the q pools are there biggest betting-ron langsford a name from the past got the record treble dividend midweek of 151 thousand- now im guessing 7. its a given that u cant bet into small pools and hope to win on any scale- unless you are completely computerised so fixed odd the only hope of winning. one hk team bets in 31 places but there betting is precise to the dollar and it is like running a corporation. a lot of the winnings are commissions on turnover. if you getting a clip all the time it makes it impossible-now very few punters win the long game- it takes a huge amount of work knowledge and then u only get a small advantage on turnover. how can I person get 5k on a horse and another can get it on the same horse- because one is a consistent big loser and the other a winner. so huge tote pools are the only answer-so if you want to win - and think you can -head to the big tote pools. or get a job I don't know who defends the nz bookmakers- they are indefensible- I only bet socially now- don't have an account because I know u cant win in nz- without being a smart arse I should know. hk racing starts soon- the reason the betting is getting bigger is the pools are huge and getting bigger
  12. unfortunately u wont get anywhere -sad but true.it is the frustration that really annoys you. findgreener pastures- if you are good enough you will win- half a dozen of us 20 odd years ago made the decision and did well.if you are good here u can adapt - suggest u google alan woods gambler have worked for him or since his passing his family for more than 20 years-genius- it will only help u .
  13. I don't usually bother I have a little bit of experience in this field -don't know brodie- but he is right on all counts- impossible to win in nz on a consistent basis- first the bookmakers wont let u and the tote pools are so small u will give yourself unders- people talk unders and overs I suspect very few know what they are talking about- lisening to tv presenters on this immediately means the mute button-if it 5 percent overs is it a bet- nooooooooooooooooooooooo. brodie unfortunately u are fighting a losing battle because its their bat and ball and they decide all the rules - you don't even get to bat number 12 quite a few were able to win 20 years ago because of large pools but as soon as they fell- and tax went up- percentage betting came in and silly pools came in and redistributed the dollar it didn't matter how much of an edge u had it wasn't big enough. the silly part of the bookmakers if they played the long game they would get it all of most of even the smarties they limit. but they are fleas especially considering its not their own money as per the old days of the waterhouse's bruce reid the list goes on. they can take huge losses that even those guys couldn't. they are fleas- gutless whatever word u like. my guess is the odds setters bookies what ever u call them get a bonus. so play the tightest game in the universe- they give mugs hats and pens and trips and fight tickets personal contact- coz they like them- really -they have all sorts of terms for them- but they are one thing long and persistent and big losers. I have had plenty of mates thrown out of casinos all over the world - been in the griffin book of cheats "usually because they are too smart." in the old days mates found a bias in the wheel- cheats hahaha counting cards cheats - fsaw dealers who couldn't shuffle properly cheats - backing a winner in nz using your brains- u go in their version of the griffin book. undoubtedly they get criminal drug money- I know that- but don't see them refusing that- u guys could go under cover but it is like putting on disguises at casinos probably wont last long - to win on racing the only way is to find place that has huge tote pools japan hong kong. my suggestion if u want to give your self a chance is bet into hong kong quinella and win pools. bag the broadster all u like- I have some inkling who he could be (not sure) but he is utterly completely 1000 percent right.
  14. gary one of the great racing brains
  15. u have to remember the season gets longer and longer - it used to be less than 9 months and each year it goes longer. the long intervals gary are torturous- 35 min Cambridge- minor meeting 20 min enough but what would u know owned a million gone to a million meetings-heavily involved in sport- have they asked u.and not likely to- nice article in magazine .about you. hk is unique but we have learned very few lessons from the best racing in the world.
  16. hes a decent man and I have had a lot of dealings good and bad.
  17. drovers eyre- we are very lucky he came in tremendous order- us winning is no reflection on the last trainer- we have been able to place him well- he is rated in 70's but u will see his llast 2 starts as a claimer in 55's he ran 3d and snuck over to win. unfortunately he has quite a serious leg problem and have to inject frequently-there is no doubt in my mind north island lower grades are easier.his standing start manners are great so I hope he goes good- even though my 4 in the race are the worse on paper the money is good and no point sitting at home. I would rate him as a horse in the the high 50's low 60's. anyway we wont kill him and retire him when the time is right.tks for post.
  18. the tab would have to worry less about leakage if they dropped the tax on all betting forms and stopped restricting punters- I know some one who is restricted to winning 500 on greyhounds harness- really can they be anymore stupid. if they offered a rebate of losing bets 1000 or more more business-the fact that bookmakers(loose term) get a bonus on profit means of course they going to trim the punters. don't they know they are in the long term game
  19. like me midget I am not keen from personal experience on the riu but this seems only a minor mistake
  20. we can help the club if they carded a race up to 66 and 10claimers- amateur drivers as a race of last resort it could get a decent enough field- not asking to take the food out of the pros mouths- last resort if they cant card a full card- montes might help- I am going to hardly race kd hall- just here and there - don't want to kill the old boy off long marks- my choice.but we have a real affection for him - he made us and I have turned done offers to buy him. when the club booted me out he kept us getting up in the morning. today I have been contacted by an aussie agent to sell franco Hamilton chal shock and joemaro- it wasn't enough money but I wont be able to resist soon as much as I hate to let them go we wont be able to race them competitively. sad but true for plenty of us.
  21. the difference is professional trainers get paid even if they don't win races- I have to pay all expenses- I would say without buying the horses my outgoings on the stake money of 143 k we wouldn't be ahead- but no one makes me do it- most people have no idea of the expenses neither do the hierarchy. I would rather not have 4 in a race but we had to switch 2 to the race to make it viable. regan cotter is a a decent fellow and I don't mind- he helps me when he can though is no pushover I wouldn't have done it under the previous stewardship. having great supporters like tasman man helps - he should be high up in administration
  22. I hope - tonight in Melbourne 14k kd muscles conon bridge- beamed in to france great betting. last night Alexandra park the monte had the people lining the stands watching it- looked about the same as the Auckland cup. great display. michelle wallis and Bernie take a bow- it created big interest among the galloping fraternity- alwyn tweedie scott lucock sally Gillespie chris dell and plenty of others- they loved it. 100 plus people who never come to the trots- some dined at the top of the park - had a drink and a bet - new blood- clubs have to think outside the square if they want to prosper. something different. tv 3 new tonight 6.40 a couple of minutes on it. thanks steven stewart for doing the story- who is going to be the first club to have a tote race- everything in place for it too happen.
  23. dave got 8 plus grand for the week and sold it for 1500- great
  24. best race of the year finish wise last night r1 amateurs 2.5 lengths first to last - slow time for slow horse but ultra competitive finish- rating system keeping those horses in a bunch makes good betting and close racing- no good for a punter watching a horse on a 60 rating trying to battle an 80 horse of the same mark in a mobile- like a game of tennis 2 even bad players make for good betting rather than a u beaut playing me.
