The article i read said he would be an asset to Newcastle racing so i  presume Newcastle or the Newcastle area.

No sure where he is based, an article about his battles along the way on the aussie racing site, back from injury, and told he'd never ride again, already had a winner I believe,  always thought he was a strong rider when in nz.

It's just over 80 days until the greatest sporting event in the world begins.  Timing not great for the players but for football fans it's like Christmas come early - can't wait for my mighty Oranje to march to long overdue WC glory!!
To help pass the time before the (proper) football World Cup we're going to run a World Cup tipping comp, over the next 10 or so weeks.   It will work something like this:
- week 1 - this coming Saturday will be a warm-up and a seeding round - seeding s will determine the make-up of the various pools/groups
- based on the seedings entrants will be formed into groups of 6 teams.  Hopefully enough entrants for 8 or 9, maybe even 10 groups.  Over the next 5 weeks entrants will play a H2H match against each of the other teams in their group and will earn points for a Win or a Draw.
- at the end of pool play the top teams in each group will advance to the knockout phase/play-offs.   The number of teams advancing and the knock-out bracket will depend on the number of groups, but will be published before group play begins.
- knockout comp will then run for the next 4 or so weeks, again depending on numbers.
- the format each week will be 12 races, 2 picks in each race, two best bet races, $10 each way on both plus a $2 quinella
- we'll be using some of the recently recycled prize money.  There will be a small weekly prize for the highest aggregate, and prizes for the main knock-out comp and the plate comp.  Will run a plate comp across the knockout period for those who didn't do so well in their group - trying to keep people involved as long as possible.
Entry thread for seeding round will go up tomorrow night (or sometime on Thursday).
I know its a bit of a marathon, but we seem to have a reasonable bunch of entrants who turn up week after week (thank you), so hopefully we'll have a good turnout (from start to finish).

Does anybody remember Colin Reeves,my uncle.Apparently was a fair enough jumps rider and he definitely a character,he gave up riding about 35 years ago.I dont know why,nobody has ever told me but i do know he came to races with me and dad when i was about 15/16 and i think was escorted out of course for trespassing.Dad told me that he not allowed on a racecourse but wouldnt tell me what he had previously done.
