What a great days racing.Thanks to Nimue who had a bit of spare time so done the tallys and sent them to me last night.Just as well too as for some reason i had diddled everybody that had Extravagant,including myself.Hopefully i have them right now.Only 2 winning best bets to Chelseacol and Last of 40.

Mrs Cubes and Dodecahedron and Prism and our mate Whetu got to be in Commentary box for Race 6 and Mark McNamara was a legend and it totally surpassed the punting wasteland in enjoyment factor . And Red Dirt Girl won and that was nice .

The fact you still have to win a race at Addington to be eligible - is going to mean the Big Ears situation doesn't happen all the time.
I think the other issue is that for many horses of marginal ability they are likely to pick up prize money etc racing away from Addington in easier fields, rather than slogging around week after week in races they realistically are no chance in just to get the bonus ?

Good on you for capitalising on the bonus system as it currently exists, but I'm sure you'd have to agree that being being beaten by an average of 50m in your 10 most recent starts, as is the case with Big ears, is hardly worthy of being rewarded with the equivalent of one and a half winning stakes, and is unlikely to do anything for turnover.
Owners such as yourself can't be blamed for accepting the handouts on offer, and as long as The Met are going to reward such horses, they'll continue to get more of it.

You're worried about the $7500 awarded to an aged horse as being reward for mediocrity. We spend millions rewarding mediocrity by showering so much on 2 and 3YO racing. Many of which can't win mid grade races when they turn 4 or 5. Now that's rewarding mediocrity.

I should add the competition is not thorough or scientific so we are debating something flawed. Aptly shown by Kincaslough not even making the trotters list and is a 5 as a wildcard.

That trackside commentators needs a talking to then!
I swapped a couple of my horses worth lowly 5s. It didn't really work out that I could / needed to swap good ones.
I get what you are saying just think it would be better to have trading after cup week.

I'll be at the Cup this year, but have to agree with the fact that there is no public grandstand ,which has left the enjoyment and viewing of the races somewhat limited. Race card is always supurb though.

It's my fav raceday all round but I feel the stakes are still well short of what they should be. 20k is ok and better than what they normally chase but I feel 40k should be the minimum stake on Cup day for the under card. We see the greyhounds in Melbourne often go round for 20k and this is our showpiece day. Just winning a race on Cup Day will be a memory that always stays with you and the stake money should reflect that. We need to stamp this day as our elite day. Jewels day has 100K minimum stakes and that also ensures every race is the actual target for every runner. 40k minimum stakes would lift the entire day to a higher level. Should we not be aiming for that on Cup Day?

I have run a few cup week comps in the past but havent the last few years as others have,but i see none advertised any yet so i am prepared to again if nobody else posts one by 8am Friday morning.Details to follow in the morning but will put up $50 to winner(thanks to Cubes ,who got me tickets to Galloping cup and doesnt want payment) and will be points based .Meetings Riccarton Saturday,Wednesday,Saturday and Addington Tuesday,Friday.And Greyhounds Thursday.

Expected to be close to heavy track by the time race starts.Probably bringing Ambience into favouritism.Will also suit Zarabeel who has also performed on soft going.Very few of these fillies have raced or have form on wet tracks and makes this race a lottery .The Grey Flash could be one for odds.Looked to be looking for more ground in both the Ethereal and Manifold and apparently pulled a shoe last start.Got to chuck in Jameka and Sacred Eye on ability alone but all their form on nice tracks. 

It annoys me when i hear a jockey say the pace was too slow so the race wasnt run to suit my horse.Every jockey can make the choice of moving forward to increase the pace but most choose not to.So dont use that as an excuse,just say i was outridden by other jockeys who knew what pace suited their horses.

Ted, you deserve all the success you get. You give your picks to most of us on here for nothing. What a great result, I hope  your pockets lined for the year. Not to many times the TAB get it wrong as they are usually giving you unders until the day starts and they see where the money is been spent, but every so often I find a horse that I have priced and it is overs and then I start doubting myself that they know more than me. 

That maybe so but that makes it more important for jockeys to know what pace they going at.Zac Purton on Fame Game said his horse has gone 12 seconds quicker in winning before,so if that the case he should have been able to go forward easily and maybe sit 3 wide .Instead he stayed near back knowing he wasnt going to win.Michael Walker said before race that there no real front runner and so will be no pace on,so will have to be handy.So i would imagine most jockeys would have worked that out ,yet we still had some that went to back and didnt try to improve.
