  1. Same at Riccarton from what I understand. Recently to perform substantial annual maintenance.
  2. Yes. It's a sky sports channel so you have to be subscribed.
  3. What do you mean it's not real grass? Of course it is. Nothing like the synthetic tracks you mention. And with superior drainage to most grass tracks, you'd think it would need more, not less, irrigation.
  4. The grass is obviously not yet well rooted by the way it was chipping out on the turn and shifting underfoot.
  5. Well Nerula, I think you can now safely remove your rose coloured glasses. The first sign of rain and it is neither safe nor uniform. They have some work to do for it be that.Best track of the day by far was Riccarton.
  6. No he was talking about the races today.
  7. Just bumping up this thread from 2015 in light of today's disaster. The problem has been there a long time with nothing substantive done about it. The link to the Bell Gully report no longer seems to work but here it is. Report to NZTR hastings track.pdf
  8. Apparently, it was inconsistency in the straight at Hastings. Whether that is due to soil conditions, uneven irrigation or what is hard to say. How it wasn't picked up in the morning inspection or the penetrometer readings is anyone's guess. Following the running of this race a number of riders expressed concern regarding the surface of the track which was described as inconsistent in final straight. A track Safety Review Panel consisting of Stewards and Senior Jockeys was convened. Following a track inspection and a subsequent meeting with all riders and club officials, the remainder of the race meeting was abandoned due to the inconsistencies of the track
  9. That's a fair point if true but hasn't that strip been tested by gallops, jumpouts and trials?
  10. See nothing wrong with a sweepstake, glorified or not. After all that's what slot races are. All the payment and fee details are already there in the published T&Cs.
  11. Where or whom did you get that from?
  12. Yep. Sold out at 15,000 this year wasn't it?
  13. Yes, pretty much an NZB and breeding industry benefit and a kick in the guts for most of the racing industry as we face reduced stakes in a couple of months for the off peak season and navigating poor tracks and prgramming.
  14. It is open to all NZ breds, not just sale horses.
  15. They have to be NZ bred or sold here though.
  16. Maybe beer but no-one to serve it. Just do a click and collect from the liquor store on your phone.
  17. They get event tier funding of 64,000 for that meeting + additional carnival funding of 107,500, 50% of which this year went toward The Grand Tour Racing Festival promotion.
  18. I would have thought that 9.5% of oncourse turnover including that by mobile phone would be a benefit that they'd be interested in.
  19. Not sure how? Many of us don't have time to waste an hour watching replays of last week's races which we've already seen and can watch again anytime if we wish. Needs some topical substance and independent journalism to be of any value to NZ racing. Luke at least brings a touch of that when he is there.
  20. Not to take away from Miss Jools' job but if you had googled it, you'd know the word is sycophant.
  21. Sounds like it was his choice so he could enjoy the day with friends and family.
  22. Unless that is in accord with Tony's wishes, it's an absolute travesty. His final day of calling (in NZ), at his biggest meeting of the year, and he won't be calling the Remutaka or the Gold Trail? Sure, get someone else to call the farewell race named in his honour, but otherwise that's a real final kick in the guts.
