You could be right. Tell us more.
Club: Wellington Racing Club @ Trentham
Date: Saturday, 27 January 2024
Weather: Overcast
Track: Soft 5, Downgraded to Soft 6 prior to Race 1 @ 11.13am
Track further Downgraded to Soft 7 @ 1.10pm retrospective to Race 1
Rail: Out 6 metresFollowing the running of this race, riders expressed concern regarding an area of the track near the 600 metres,
where ZACKERY (K Asano) lost its footing and slipped. A Lawson-Carroll also reported his mount REDANA also slipped.
A track Safety Review Panel consisting of Stewards, Senior Jockeys and Club Officials was convened. Following a track
inspection, which clearly identified a slip, a subsequent meeting with riders and club officials was convened and the
remainder of the race meeting was abandoned. -

That's absolutely stupid isn't it?
Btw Insider, wasn't it natural irrigation on an already soft track that preceded the problem in the first place?

Natural irrigation took place overnight so all will be ok.
Is this low key meeting one of Awapuni's race dates, because of the closure there?
Otherwise it is absolutely stupid.
No. It's a Wellington RC meeting.

Seems they are waiting till race day to test it with horses at racing speed though there is no guarantee that part of the track will be used

So basically they can now guarantee it will be consistently wet across the whole width of the track.
You wouldn't think so would you? I note they say "more consistent" not totally consistent or even sufficiently consistent. I'm surprised they didn't use a penetrometer across the track in the affected area to determine that, or gallop a number of horses round there across that area.

Leggy I do not agree with you either Mike McRoberts is a professional and yes he did host an evening in honour of DE, so that obviously was requiring some knowledge of racing....and why is it not possible for him as a professional to not learn about the position he is employed to do should racing be so lucky as to gain a professional like Mike from the train wreck of Newshub. He would be one of less than a handful the TAB has on board now and that is being extremely generous with the use of professional associated with anyone presenting on trackside, including Guerin and co...JMO. Take your blinkers off and think outside the box for once...do they teach you to be so negative in the teaching profession. or are you just always like this???
I agree with you. Just don't think that a co-presentation 7 years ago is much help to support the case.

HI Leggy, we are talking about potential folk from Newhub that could be beneficial to the racing scene as front persons. I take it you have read the thread?
Yes, I have. Are Guerin and McRoberts newshub employees?

I don't suppose someone has a screenshot of the divdends of the last R7 at Tauherenikau today.
Surely the place dividend for the 2nd horse Sol De Otono at $11.80 is incorrect??? Should have been more like $1.80.
The filly was paying just over $5 to win a few minutes brfore the race when I looked and NZTR show the filly paying $5.80 as the win dividend at the jump.
The quinella looks ok with the $5.40 winner Phone A Friend with Sol De Otono at $17.10 and the trifecta at $97.00 seems in order also.
Sol De Otono was first selection by the TAB, Bevan Sweeney made her a Best Bet on the day and she was also first selection in the Race Form.
That place dividend of $11.80 is just sticking out like the proverable.........

Ok Leggy, educate me. What would a farmer consider a full renovation of a pasture.
P.S. I forgot about the under-sowing that we always did.
What chiknsmack said.

"NZTR and the Club have also agreed to immediately undertake a full renovation of the Hastings turf to regain confidence in the track. More information will be provided by NZTR regarding this process once a detailed plan has been finalised"
A full renovation [in layman's terms] means cutting the grass right back, removing any build up of debris material, aerate, fill divot holes, fertilize and irrigate to get the grass growing rapidly which hopefully it will, as it's still warm enough.
The next meeting at Hastings is scheduled for 13 April, so my guess is that it will not be necessary to reschedule any race dates.
I don't think many farmers would consider that a full renovation of a pasture. To me that is routine annual maintenance for any track. If that's what they mean, I don't see the point.

20 years ago the tracks weren't all stuffed after two decades of neglect and under investment.

mulebacker you are wrong. Jockeys don't get paid for the races abandoned. Owners and trainers miss out as well. The float fee from Waikato to Hastings would be about $700-$800 per horse.
Not quite true. For abandoned meetings:
Jockeys.
Where a Jockey is not able to fulfil any
riding engagements due to the
abandonment.
$300
Where a Jockey has ridden in 1 race on the
day but was unable to fulfil further
engagements due to the abandonment.
$200
Where a Jockey has travelled from one
Racing Region to any other Racing Region.
$200, in addition to the amount paid as
above.
Where a Jockey was able to fulfil 2 or more riding engagements before the meeting was
abandoned no compensation is paid. -

I'm pretty sure Betfair run a Sportsbook out of the UK but here in NZ we keep getting redirected to an Australian section that is exchange only, and a very poor visual app, a android version, Black background, i think that there is also a web version as well that runs on older browsers i stand to be corrected, probably the worst one to navigate around is Betfair.
No black background on mine and one of the easiest sites to navigate imo.

Betfair are like any other bookmaker. You start winning big and they will close your account without hesitation.
What? Why would they do that? It's a betting exchange, not a bookmaker.
