  1. Yes, and wasn't the rebate only for turnover in excess of a pre-set amount? Presumably that bettor's (how's that Rumpole?) average t/o?
  2. Sheriff, you may know who to trust, but if industry participants and the general public cannot trust the NZTR business plan, that has been approved by the RB as required under the Act, then some serious questions need to be asked. You suggest those figures are false or misleading. If they are, I'm disappointed but not surprised. If they are not, then you are being misled. By way of checking, the NZTR distribution account expenditure for 05/06, according the annual accounts lodged with the Registrar of Incorporated Societies, was 38 mill. So was the payment to clubs in the cashflow statement. One has to wonder how the additional 10 mill in the figures provided to you was constituted, given the entire NZTR cashflow for the year was 44mill. I repeat, someone is telling porkies.
  3. Sheriff, I just had another look at these figures and someone is telling porkies. According to the NZTR business plan the actual figures are: 05/06 48.5 mill 40.2 06/07 62.5 mill A 52.0 07/08 65.5 mill B 63.0 08/09 71.5 mill C 66.9 (forecast) 09/10 63 mill 56.5 (budget) They can't both be right and some of the discrepancies are large.
  4. Well, I'm not sure where they got the 63 mil in 09/10. I thought it was 56.5. However you omitted to add: 06/07 62.5 mill A 07/08 65.5 mill B 08/09 71.5 mill C 09/10 63 mill D A start of duty relief B start of trackside recovery C includes nztr share of reserves A start of duty relief B start of trackside recovery C includes nztr share of reserves D includes 4 mil NZTR reserves and deficit & ~12 mil RB reservses in payment to code
  5. How did you work out that was intended to be English, Sheriff?
  6. Water under the bridge indeed and the vets perogative, to protect safety and punters in what is a momentary decision without benefit of any extensive assessment or examination. For what it's worth, admittedly from a few seconds of video, I remarked to my partner when the horse was backed out and walked off that it was short behind, and a certain scratching. Now out of curiosity, I'd like another look.
  7. ...and at the end of the day if he ends up with a second to BC on his CV, that's surely not all bad?
  8. They've tried that Trakdap. Maybe some consultation and leadership skills might help? Meanwhile I'm switching to Chardonnay.
  9. Bugger, I was just checking in to see if there was any of that discounted pinot around yet
  10. Sheriff you are being somewhat mischievous again. I wasn't suggesting it was the NZRB's role to intervene in an individual club's sponsorship of a single race. I was responding to the apprentice's comment that "finding and keeping Sponsors is a tough job and is the responsibility of the Club - not NZTR or NZRB" As you point out they already do that with the likes of summer racing. As I pointed out, it is already in the strategic plan to explore this further. I see no reason why the NZRB could not be engaged in negotiating sponsorship for a series of key races, perhaps tied with a specific wagering lotto style product for example. In particular though you are being naughty when you suggest that the NZRB's role is merely to "distribute the surpluses' to the codes, and then the codes are literally on their own", when as you and I have discussed before, the NZRB has another and broader objective beyond running the TAB and distributing the surplus.
  11. I am probably that stupid Sheriff because I don't understand the gist of your comment. What was stupid about my post? The idea that the NZRB could advance the possibility of national sponsorships? Didn't you support or even suggest that idea here before?
  12. I agree and disagree Apprentice. It seems to me that a nationally co-ordinated sponsorship strategy either by NZTR oat code level or perhaps a tri-code strategy might be a sensible idea, no? That would not preclude individual clubs working their local communities for smaller sponsorships. If you turn to page 71 of the NZRB Strategic Plan under the heading INITIATIVE #5 - Increase club non-wagering revenue, you'll see that Tactivc #5 says "Investigate national contracts for supply and sponsorship". I wonder how they are progressing with that.
  13. oops don't know where all the gobbledygook came from
  14. You might want to add these clever folk to your list Sheriff: .y_pxTag { DISPLAY: none} if(window.yzq_d==null)window.yzq_d=new Object();window.yzq_d['5inE68tU2TU-']='&U=13huvfb4t%2fN%3d5inE68tU2TU-%2fC%3d796728.14629091.14428001.12382107%2fD%3dLREC1%2fB%3d6356002%2fV%3d1';"The Bureau of Meteorology's climate outlook for the three months to June says a wet few months are ahead for Queensland"
  15. What club? And yes I have questions. Has that ludicrous moustache fallen out along with the rest of his hair?
  16. Who was right? You or the Dillo-Ring (the highly-regarded scientist) combo? Guess you didn't have much show against Ring's 88-90% success rate.
  17. Perhaps Dillo should have listened to what Johnson said and maybe wandered down to watch her trackwork on Tuesday. According to the Informant it was not the best work of this campaign and she struggled to hit the line comfortably after going too hard in the mid-part of that work. He also reported that she was 12-15kgs above her Christmas racing weight. Enough to put me off. Ask yourself. If you'd read the article, her trackwork and listened to CWJ's comments you would've written an article recommending laying her. Dillo after all these years also obviously has no comprehension of the nature of the Hastings track.
  18. Wouln't starting the time before the gates open make the time greater/slower? What does seem peculiar is that the times were a second faster than the video times when both are manual and rely on the timer respondse to the gates opening.
  19. Hmmm...hot tip rumpers? Or early April Fools day trickery?
  20. That's a good example punna of that aspect of the issue. There is another example which I can't name names for obvious reasons. But the lower the minimum stakes. The more it occurs because owners who don't have a top class horse, have only two ways to recover some expenses. Sell or punt. So you get the first starter with the ability to win or go close having a quiet, comes out a start or two later and wins by 3lengths at double figure odds. The stipes rarely ask a question and if they do the horse's inexperience in some form suffices. As some would say it's only a rort if you're not in on it.
  21. Wouldn't that have come from the RB, but how the hell did the Herald subs miss it?
  22. http://www.skysports.com/racing/race-report/0,28798,11068_420118,00.html Yep, well done Prop. You tempted me into a massive $2 each way which seems to have added some $80 odd to my account. :y:
