I know not everyone  looks at the TAB races. But as someone told me you only say something when it   affects you. Well they are right, if We    did not have a dog in the extra race meeting I would not see, that race 1 is on trackside 2 which is on at 4.12pm. This is the only race from PN all day on the channel.  Now when you set your sky, you do not look at  what channel each race is on. Now I do know why they have done this is because of the Kaikoura cup which is on at 4.16pm.
I get annoyed with not getting a fair deal with lead-up times, missing out on front-on's,especially at PN.

I would like to say that no-one comes on here and said I did this, or I did that. You would rubbish any one that said if i did not vote for that or did. I know what I did on the Board at Wanganui, but it is all kept inhouse, you cannot see the minutes from NZGRA or from Wanganui. So when I say I tried,  you will just have to take my word for it.

Greg said yesterday that 1/2 the dogs coming in from OZ have a ticket. So how about the one with 1st ticket pays $1k , 2nd ticket $2k. and we do not take 3rd,one. As he said we have to send them to GAP, this is our problem not the OZs.

Hi Bev what do you think he would say if , someone asked him to stop all imports from coming into race ? And only allow ones coming into have a litter ? I don’t have facts or figures but I’d say most if not all would be on the gap list after they finish racing ? To me if they are not there then more race for Nz dogs , also what are your thoughts on this question. Thanks

    To whom it may concern,

As the CD clubs have not asked for submissions for this years AGM I have
a few for you to suggest.

    1. All high grade dogs get a start when nominated.

Eg. If a reserve in a C5 you would get drawn into a C4/5.

The highest form C4 would run against the lowest form C5.

The highest form C3 would run against the lowest form C4, and so
on till all the higher grade dogs all get a start each week.

If a reserve in any high grade race you would be drawn into a
    lower grade field.

    2. Kenneling times to two hours, instead of the three hours.

Eg. With split kenneling the norm and kennel staff there all day,If
the trainer wanted a two hour kennel they should be allowed.

This would mean the first four races would have to kennel, but
the first seven could kennel if they wished, and so on.

    3. Shelter for the dogs outside the kennel block.

Eg. A cover for the dogs and handlers from the sun or rain, for the
10 /15 minuets before the race.

    4. Dress code, shirts tucked in.

Eg.Under the human rights act men and women should not be
discriminated against based on there sex.

At the moment men must tuck shirts in, while women may choose
if they want to or not.

In Australia they know it is a human rights violation and that
is why they do not have this rule.

Most men will tuck them in, but it should be a choice in an
    equal rights world.

    5. Nomination closing times.

Eg. Noms should shut in order of race days.

            At the moment

PN Monday shuts before Auckland Sunday.

Wanganui Friday shuts before Waikato Thursday.

Noms should shut in order of race days.

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

The Letter the Informant will not publish.   Long time greyhound breeder owner who runs a successful accounting practice , Tom Rodewald , has sent me thru a letter he has tried to get the Informant to publish. They I gather are showing no interest and this is not surprising in view of the facts contained within the letter. It seems the horse codes are not providing a subsidy to the greyhound codes rather it is the other way round. !   Tom letter reads Over recent months there have been a number of articles and letters to the editor dealing with racing industry distributions in The Informant.
One claim made by your columnist Brian de Lore was that greyhound racing, he understood, was being subsidized by the thoroughbred code to the tune of $5m per annum.
It has been a common thread in letters to the editor that thoroughbred racing does not receive the full benefit of earnings from the export of its product. Further it is being stated that Section 16 of the Racing Act is unfair on the thoroughbred code as it focuses industry distributions on domestic turnover share.
    Fact or Fallacy?
Over the past few weeks I have trawled through publicly available information and also made the odd enquiry to try and ascertain the true position.
From the publicly available information we can establish in the 2017 season that:
    1. Section 16(3) of the Racing Act that requires racing industry funds to be distributed based on NZ domestic code turnover has not applied since 2011 and did not apply in 2017.
    2. it appears that betting on greyhound racing via the NZ TAB was 20% of total racing turnover.
    3. it appears the gross betting margin the NZ Racing Board earned on greyhound turnover exceeded that of harness racing.
    4. the export turnover commission received by the NZ Racing Board on greyhound racing was approximately 31% of its total export income.
    5. the greyhound code received only 16.1% of the distribution made under Section 16.
    6. a quick calculation indicates if the racing industry distributed its turnover based on each code receiving its share of gross betting revenue and its actual export commission earnt the greyhound racing share of the pie would have grown by approximately $8.8m.
It seems to me on figures published the thoroughbred export turnover percentage was well under 50% of the total racing turnover in the 2017 year. Allocating export turnover by each code on an actual basis would have disadvantaged the thoroughbred code.
Anybody interested can download my full analysis and some pertinent comments via my website http://rodewaldconsulting.co.nz/blog/racingindustrydistribution/

It makes me wonder why our GRNZ have not been more forthcoming in highlighting just how successful the greyhound code has been in recent years turnover and income wise.

What kind of negilgence. BM. If you know the full details of how this happened then publish if not STFU.
No doubt John would have been devastated by these events and kicking someone while they are down is gutless.
Emily Robertson of the GPL uses the sad news to spray more false news with the statement that  "it is not surprising that it has happened". Thousands upopn thousands of greyhounds plus other breeds have been transported interisland by the same method over the years with no adverse results. We have made the trip many times and the dogs were in excellent conditon at the ens d of each trip. Mc Inerneys have made the trip more than anyone without trouble till this occasion . Obviously something out of the ordinary happened and untill we are all aware of what it was it is best to not comment.
The fact the thread was started with the word Cruelty indicates the intention of the poster

As we had 3 dogs in, we got 3 coats, which is very good for cold winter nights.
And for them to give away a coat to all dogs that made the final.

If you're racing on Wednesday or Friday and need to trial a dog in between then Sunday is ideal being either three or five days prior whereas Thursday is either a day after or a day before - no consideration at all for a proper training regime. The same goes if you need to trial a dog twice in a week e.g: breaking in, coming back from spell, getting fit, etc. then Wednesday and Sunday is ideal.

OK anything that brings the sport some attention and turnover must be good, but overall is it.
Where is the benefit for the 95% of the participants who stand looking at the manipulation of rules and unease created by a few well connected who are just trying the old mine is bigger than yours trick .I take an analogy where if it was motor cars and you wanted to boost the image of your countries products with an event where the fastest and reliable was decided, and  you called for an event where all the Ferrari's, Porches, McLaren's and red Mustangs were entered is the result going to encourage anyone in the local industry.
There is considerable money involved here and practically it will be only the flash Harry's who even participate. The average participant in the NZ industry has been hit with all sorts of levies and charges and restrictions that are making it harder work for the backbone of our industry while we go out of our way to provide incentive for the Aussie industry

What legal obligations Auckland race on sundays health and safety is relevant everyday of the week. Vets have 24 hr on call all services. Or are you going to have a vet actually on course whilst having the trials. If so that’s a added expense. It doesn’t bother me what day you have trials I don’t train. It seems to me that clubs are forgetting why they are there.to help participants of the sport not hinder them. Tell what moral obligations are not being met. Manawatu was always going to be successful once the all weather track was put in and certain members of the Nzgra were replaced that was a given

Not mine.I think  we now have races on Wednesday, trials Thursday, races on Friday, so if you would like to trial you can only do it once a week at that track. you can trial race day but if you are break-ing in pups it is not a good idea.
While I'm on it if you would like to go to the races on a Friday night you will have to book as they book out all the tables. They had 2 tables for Greyhound people.   There is over 100 members but no room. Now this would be good if they gave something back to the member's who helped to build the stand. This year we didn't have a BBQ.

Yes, Friday nights at Hatrick are terrible for trainers/owners that want to sit. "The booking system..." Trainers and Owners should get first preference to the tables and chairs as it is them putting on the show. Whether they have booked or not.  I used to watch our elderly trainers, and some owners, sit outside in the cold as the tables were already booked out. The ratshit thing with this, is that majority of those who reserved spaces, didn't turn up until later in the night. The tables could and should have been utilized.
Generating public interest is great, it brings $ to the table but when we start looking at the money rather than our participants, and treat participants as "visitors", we are F'D! I can't believe we are moving backwards, rather than forwards.
If this is how it is, priorities need to be checked.
